  1. Thanks Mike, Just curious because my friend thought it was a Chev C60, that someone we know owns. Always difficult to take it all in when traffic is going the other direction. Apparantly the WLF was steaming along at a good pace. Good to see it still working at what is was intended for!
  2. Mark, What was he towing? My friend thought it was a brown colour CMP Chev or Ford.
  3. A friend was driving his lorry on the A21 today, I think, near Tonbridge and spotted an US wrecker with soft top cab, speeding along with what he thought was a CMP truck on tow. He thought the wrecker might have been a Ward LaFrance. Was this you, TooTallMike?
  4. Neil, Many years back, while working with REME, we had a BMP-1 come in for engine repairs, ( don't ask....this was before the first Gulf War, so not war booty! ). When they ran it around the workshop roads, it did scuff up the tarmac somewhat, on turning. I know your intended is a Czech version, but reckon the tracks look the same. Also standing on a hard surface, there is very small area touching the road, but while on earth, grass, etc. then the weight would bear on all the track surface, so where are your ground pressure figures calculated from?
  5. This was not an ex-army TK, they are too heavy, it was a 7.5 ton, with the 16" wheels, similar to those used for horseboxes. The body as I explained was built especially for the carrier and was skeleton construction with basically two ramps, to cut down unneccesary weight. The whole outfit loaded came within 7.5 tons, a Windsor weighing in at around 4 tons or just over.
  6. What is on the end of your feet? Add this to camel ;-)
  7. Thanks Clive, Lost count now, could be 5 or 6 ? Thought I would let it run a little before posting......some interesting suggestions. As for time frame, I will go 1920's, hope I do not get it right, else people might suspect it is a fiddle  Not that I am getting any prizes, they seem to have been lost in the post Richard
  8. Chris, Not that old Saracen that you posted a pic of a while back?
  9. A friend used to have a Bedford TK for transporting his Windsor carrier, and was within 7.5 gross. A Windsor would be bit heavier than a Universal Carrier. The TK was a 7.5 ton GVW cab / chassis, with a purpose built body, built as a skeleton with no unnecessary decking, etc. Now, modern 7.5 ton trucks are built a lot lighter than the old TK, with disc brakes, etc, eliminating heavy brake drums, so would give you a better margin for payload. A Leyland DAF 45 would be a typical choice.
  10. Lee, You'll be for it......... the RSM will have you sweeping the parade ground with a toothbrush :-D
  11. Rick, I have been reading this thread and wondered why you have wired up your Morris with Positive Earth, when it should be Negative earth. I am certain the CAV 75BT-19X control board fitted, is only designed for use with Negative earth.
  12. I think that Albion bridging truck on Ebay, has now been sold to a chap in France, he is English and has a particular interest in military bridging. He has been on another forum on this very subject recently.
  13. Tony, I actually built those HAC Lightweights. You should have seen them before we started, they were the roughest bunch that could be found, with numerous layers of IRR on them. the effort was worth it though. When they were eventually disposed of, one appeared at Beltring on the EMLRA display, but unfortunately, I never got to find the owner.
  14. Robert, I thought the same as you. If you look at the different photographers, they appear to have taken shots of the same events in the arena. Would have been better if they had spent more time in the vehicle display areas.

    Flooding

Just realised, this is the chap who phoned me today about doing some field repairs on a Stalwart at Cheltenham. Unfortunately too busy at present and it did not occur to me until now, that it was for flood relief work.
  16. Well Clive, we could have done with some insectiside at Beltring. The damned mossies were biting as usual and I ended up with legs covered in big bites. Might have to bring the Flit gun next year
  17. Great news Clive, I thought that rogue Borat might have run off with it, to buy insecticide.
  18. Quite right it was a Chev, but remembering that truck from way back, I am sure it has been fitted with a GMC 270 engine in its later life.
  19. No! All the trucks that were outside reception are now gone.
  20. That is my QL, and my brother's Jeep. The Dingo is one I restored years ago and look after for a customer. Good photos.
