  1. Mark, Also heard today that a French dealer called Jeepest, may have bought up all WLF spares from Chris Muys recently. Worth checking because when it comes to air valves, it is better to get NOS than something that has been taken off.
  2. Mark, In my opinion, I would say the U/J had failed, from the initial photos, the spider and cups have dissappeared, so no clues, but that is what it looks like. If the axle had locked up, you would have felt it by wheels locking momentarily before the shaft broke. Try Army Cars in Holland, they should be able to supply the parts.
  3. Hi Tim, Not going to join your collection then? What year would it be, I am sure it is not as early as 1900 as the seller is proclaiming. Would that model have been used in France during WW1? Richard
  4. Bad news regarding the P38 Lightning flying to Duxford, the team has had to abort the trip. On route from Goose Bay to Greenland, one engine was noted to be pressurising the coolant, they were 3 hours out and returned to Goose Bay. apparently it requires a replacement engine. The P51 Mustang, "Miss Velma", which was accompanying the P38, is still on its way to Duxford with the support plane. I think they are now in Iceland, next stop Stornaway, then Duxford, unless weather changes things. UPDATE "Miss Velma" has landed at Wick airport in North of scotland, on Sat afternoon, depending on weather, next stop Duxford.
  5. There are more parades and road runs at W&P this year, check their website. Road run for WW2 British and Commonwealth vehicles, Weds night I think. Same night a parade of WW2 German vehicles around site, etc.
  6. John, This year, hope your toolbox stays shut and you get the chance to use the Saladin ;-)
  7. You were all overtaken by a pushbike when driving down the Mall :-D
  8. Jack, If you are going to try Duck Oil, do it in an inconspicuous place first, to see if it gives you what you are looking for.
  9. All this is making me feel better, my Bedford has not been painted since the last respray in 1993, it has that aged look now. Just to rejuvenate it, I wash it off and when dry, spray it over with Duck Oil and wipe off. When this has dried off it looks a lot fresher, but downside, as Clive says, it attracts the dust, so I suppose it would give the effect Jack is after. Once you have the dust on there, climb all over the truck, rub it with rag, carry steel beams for Hardypig to knock the paint off the edges and voila!.........a battleworn truck :-D
  10. Check out http://www.russiantrucks.co.uk, they are based in this country, loads of info on their website. No connection at all
  11. Hi Fred, I recollect we used to repair the CVR(W) Fox's for 2RGJ, when they were based in Dover ( or Canterbury ?). Not sure when they first started using armd. recce vehicles though.
  12. Snapper, The shot of the Humber scout car, that is my Bedford QL behind it...and the Humber was actually being repaired by me at the time and brought up to Beltring for the owner to show it. Great shots!
  13. Because they will keep a look out over your camp, security and all that. If you are in with a group of friends, there will always be someone about.
  14. According to Jean Bouchery's book, The British Soldier, Volume 2. It is 68 on a brown square If you want the ISBN number of the book, which is very informative of markings from D-Day on, it is 2 908 182 742
  15. So rather than fix the other GMC for Bolero, you have bought another one?
  16. Lee, I am very sorry to hear about Tim, having known him for more than 20 years myself. He, like myself, had a passion for the older British vehicles, his commentating in the arena at Beltring and elsewhere was always well informed. My condolences to his family and friends. Richard
  17. Jack, Sounds like you have just bought the new HMVF Field HQ :-D
  18. That OXD belonged to a friend, it was then sold to a member of the Long Range Desert Group living history display. We were told that there was photographic evidence of a British Army OXD being painted and marked as a captured German vehicle, for use on one of the LRDG missions. So, it is not actually shown as a captured vehicle....as such!
  19. Rick, A bit of delving in my library and I find it is original and not a modified command car. Truck, 3/4 ton, 4x4, Aircraft Starting, Volvo TL11 P2104 fitted with Penta equipment for starting jet aircraft engines. Chassis and front end sheet metal same as TP21 Command Car. Used bt Sweedish Air Force
  20. Hello John, Sorry to hear you have not been well. Hope you are on the mend and be out with Bertha again soon. Richard
  21. Rick, It would depend if it was a EU country, things would be easier then.
  22. No.1 is a Volvo, the bonnet and front wings are the same as the Sugga command car, never seen a 4x4 with soft cab and screen such as that. Could be original body. No.2. First thoughts were Fiat Topolino, not positive though. No.3 Definitely a GAZ
  23. Hi Bob, Only remember the large white "H" painted on the vehicles. Do recollect an article on markings for Suez in a Windscreen mag from the last few years.
  24. Yes, think I've seen him before :-D also spotted my mate's jeep, he must have been in the arena doing a bit of earthmoving Good photos, Snapper, keep them coming
