  1. Hee Hee, :-D I never taken a military through the tunnel, wonder what they will make of it? Have you ever attended the Mennin Gate Ceremony? If a wreath is to be laid it has to be arranged in advance. Not only WW1, there is a lot of WW2 in the area, and earlier.
  2. Green Flag happily cover a Dodge 51, your's is lighter. 90 odd percent of AA members might recommend them, I not one of them.
  3. Maybe the difference was that is was not Allied government policy to condone such actions. Yes I know the obvious rejoinder, 'but the British invented concentration Camps''. Mis use of terms. during the Boer War 1899-1901 the British military brought in Boer families, to concentrate them, and deprive the Commandos of logistics and intelligence. That many of these families died is not in dispute, but it was caused by stupidity on the part of British authorities, not as part of State policy. At the time questions were asked in Parliament, in the press and opposition to the policy was vocal. Nothing of this happened during the rule of the 3rd Reich.
  4. Like the idea Mark, trouble is to do justice takes more than a day. If we take vehicles maybe we could meet with the Ieper MV club?
  5. A side bar to Hitler's 'Commando order' was the internment of British civilians from the Channel Islands and the confiscation of civilian radios. As a result of this listening to a radio became a capital offence, ending with British civilians in concentration camps.
  6. Mark, any chance of copies of the Germans in bathing suits? I can then get them pssed onto the guys. Tony
  7. Yes, Roadsure, £54 for up to 3.5 tons, don't know for over but they do have it.

Hey guy's there are several reasons. The one why the Garrison wasn't there is one of them. still I liked it, always have. Trouble is when you start reenacting as a business.
  9. Hey Mark, I'll pass on the praise to the Essex lot. You want to see the skit when the beers been flowing, that was th clean version. Worked though. :-D
  10. Theres the answer the Dodge can use the Jeep as a trailer :-D What are you running on? I use 50/50 anti freeze/ water all year round, works well. Volvo do a ready mix Summer coolant, which is great at ambient above 20' C. Give the front of the radiator a good hose off, muck bettween fins can be a problem, when engine cold of course. 180 Fahrenheit is 82 Celsius. Don't forget oil has a cooling effect as well. Soak the engine for a few minutes after a long run, 2 or 3 minutes at idle you will watch temp drop and oil pressure go up. Good advice given to me years ago first couple of miles slow and steady, last of couple of miles slow and steady, warm up and cool down. If you have the facility back flush the system as well. In this weather I would take th springy thingy out completely.

The Aussie Perenties have the Isuzu. I was working for MOD at the time and Chobham were testing one so I phoned them and asked what were the problems with the engine. Answer : Don't overfill with oil. there suggestion run about a 1/16 low on the dipstick, so far about 200,000 miles that I know of on the Rangie engine no problems, oh tell a lie, one rebuilt injector, contaminated fuel from Jerry can. For injectors etc Isuzu recommended me a company called Feather diesel. Great people really know their business. http://www.feather-diesel.co.uk/
  12. If you've got a Stolly you have one or it's cousin. They were also fitted to Saracen and Saladin. Ghastly bloody thing to work on. The exhaust valves are sodium packed, you try being the apprentice steam cleaning the things when they come back from what was then Rhodesia. One had a crack right across the head diagonally, unfortunately I was the poor apprentice steam cleaning the thing when it was discovered a valve had cracked. Cured the constipation. Also had one blow up the test bed, did go well. The basic history is Rolls were building tank engines and Rover developing Merlin as an aero engine. Under the war time Ministry of Works it was agreed that Rover would take the tank engine line, being vehicle manufacturers and Rolls the merlin as they were aero engineers.
  13. Lies, they are not that thirsty. They can be used to shop at Tesco, definitely have an ego raising pose factor. Can drag bodies away from the beer tent, just lay flat in the back. Don't need a tent. Can take mates to the pub. Can't go overweight when loaded with cheap beer from Belgium. Downside if Comet can't deliver your mates washing machine for a week it fits in the back. AND you don't have to drive with your knees up by your ears. But beware the Dodge Douche. When rain collects on the back canvas clear before driving, or on braking it goes under the gap at the front straight into you're lap, you only do it once. But you can keep kit covered in the back and remove the front section to drive open.
  14. The trouble is we have colour blindness. See somthing Green with wheels got to have it, :dunno:
  15. Thank you for the comments. The WW1 battle was great fun. Even had a Bergman MP18 in it, and yes I know a year to early but, boy's and their toys. :-D

I see your point Tugger. the problem with military vehicles is the milage they do. Add the MOT exemptions on some or special rules, plus most are tax exempt anyway, and you get the cost problem. I agree if your using a petrol 4x4 for everyday it is a serious consideration. My Range rover has a 2.8 litres turbo Isuzu disiel in it. Now that or the 3.1 is an engine to consider if you disiell convert. Superb reliability and no loss of performance and 30 miles on a run.
  17. I have to say you are correct in some aspects. The majority of brutality was carried out against slave workers, mainly Russian, in the Channel islands were by the Organisation Todt, supposedly a 'Civilian' organisation. Many of the overseers were not ethnic German. However the Wermacht and other German military forces didn't interfere. whatever, the whole thing is a great very grey cloud. Trying to allocate guilt or innocence a slippery slope. The only real way to get any informed opinion is to go back to as many original source documents and study with an open mind. As soon as you listen to someone else or read a published book, you will get bias. Thats life.
  18. Ah, was the road to Portland open? Years ago it flooded and Jimmy Young announced this on Radio 2, he then 'People will have to find an alternate route'. Last I heard they were still looking.
  19. One minor point. Unless a vehicle is an emergency vehicle blue light should be covered on public roads. Before any body who knows me screams, my 101 Ambulance is registered at Swansea as an ambulance, so may carry lights, even so if not actively working as casualty transport the crosses are covered. Asked by a PC when I had the 101 out and a kid had had an accident 'Do you have a first Aid kit? !!! Well she is fully equipped.
  20. Tim, your talking about people whose knowledge of WW1 is Blackadder, and WW2 Saving Private Ryan, or Band of Brothers. Prejudice is hatred without knowledge. I come from Jersey, so I have the knowledge to hate. But I work quite happily with Great War and WW2 Wermacht falljamer re-enactors. I don't blame the current generation, but I'm not going to forget history, otherwise you get the Balkans and Yugoslavia.
  21. As far as Land Rover Fixing maintence goes. 1. How do you know when a Land Rover needs oil? 2. Can you unreel Gaffer tape? 3. Can you operate a cable tie? If the answer to these is 1 Because none is dripping out. 2 yes 3 yes Congratulations :yay: :yay: :dancinggirls: You are a Land Rover restoration/repair expert.
  22. Depends if your birth certificate was signed with a quill pen. It's an age thing. Back in the days when you couldn't carry 6d worth of chips and beer was 1 shilling a pint..........
  23. No proably under the bonnet with his backside in the air :-D The problem is , as discussed in the Monday night Nazi theme. Because we don't drive a little planet friendly compacts or wear save the goldfish t shirts, and what ever our views on their deployments we actively support the men and women of our armed forces. This plus we rely on honesty and if we give offence will apologise, not start screaming about obscure political correctness, we stand out. bear in mind we are dealing with a population whose knowledge of the Great War is Blackadder and WW2 Band of Brothers, forget Malaya, Korea Aden, even Northern Island. We have the RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH, yep we also have the RESPONSOBILITY to THINK before we open our gobs. As a group of people we have a collective responsibility to present MV owners re-enactors and collectors of militaria in a positive light. Show organisers need us, not the other way around.
  24. Interesting. Means you can tow trailer over 3.5 tons weight, thats the max for a manual overide. But does bring up all the 'Before1960..etc..etc..
  25. Well if he was Kewelde's apprentice. Does NATO have stock number for Zimmer Frames? :-D Growing old ain't an option, growing up is. But it is a bit of a bugger when you wake up one morning and its 'Good bye 18/30, hello Saga.
