  1. Hi Goran, a number of us seem to be back and for across the forums at the moment. To true not going is an embarresment, not stopping is a disaster.
  2. Are you sure it isn't part Land Rover?
  3. http://www.classicheads.com/ Tim , Frank Jolley does a sealing goo. Super bloke very helpful and knowledgeable, and patient with silly questions. try him.
  4. Censorship filters do have there own idiocy built in Try a certain Town near the east coast with a steel works 'Xanthippe' Now how the H*** did the spell check get that from S c u n t h o r p e ? :coffee:
  5. Thats the joy of the Chatham stuff. They make synthetic that looks like manilla for classic boats. Not affected by sun or weather. The rope works there is the worlds longest. There is a section of tow rope for Invincible that was made there, now that would tow a Jimmy.
  6. The brakes have all been set up correctly. Using a feeler gauge seemed an odd thing, till you do it. then its perfectly logical. I changed the fluid as a matter of course, been there 5 years. Retaing pins have no apparent wear on them and cam adjusters are all free. No obvious leacks from any cylinder. Master is a sod to get at, I belive that some plumbing fittings have the same thread, so I'm going hunting for a plastic blank I can modify to fit the pressure bleed on. Hopefully round 3 on Sunday.
  7. Try running the engine from a can of fuel directly into the carb via gravity. That will rule out anything before the carb. Also some of the aerosol sprays are very useful giv it hose with that. Sometimes if fuel has been in the tank for a long while and the vehicle not used a varnish can form on the inside of the carb. the spray will take it out. Adding Redex or a fuel additive lead replacer helps the problem as well.
  8. I see the conversation is going in its usual direction. For you lot who aren't old enough to which side of razor blade to use, a sixpence, 2 1/2p was just over the size of a 1 p piece. I remeber when I twere lad, you couldn't carry si peeny worth of chips 'ome from shop. I have throughly cleaned evrything and she does stop, also changed fluid, the old stuff was a bit murky. Still I'm papranoid about brakes so will explore the idea of a change.
  9. first order check fuel delivery from pump, then see if the float is sticking. If you have a flexible fuel line try replacing it. They can wear and collapse under vacum, or the interior splits and a flap acts like a valve. Does she smell rich when she sputters?
  10. Have a look at Military medias CD No 1 that has a list of US military vehicles on it. Including details of yours.
  11. http://www.frost.co.uk/ Dah dah! not the cheapeast place but they do have some very useful kit. Item E150 Battery cut out switch.
  12. Which type of carb has it got? The classics are vacuum tube for wipers and stuck accelerator pump. the other Dodge place has a lot of helpful info on the problem.
  13. The Ropery at Chatham Dockyard. They also do synthetic that looks just like Manilla, and they sell offcuts at bargin prices. Fantastic people and so knowlegable.
  14. welcome to the mad house. When you are allowed out of the portaloo you probably find yourself feted for your special knowledge, till its dirty again.
  15. Frosts do a good one that fits straight onto the terminal of the battery, great if you don't want to drill holes.
  16. Ouch, I was thinking per axle. Still its a lot cheaper than one crunched Dodge, a large fine, possibly insurance payouts and heaps of points on my licence. I was advised on 'another place' to get a soft lining if I go that route. Any comment's please? More opinion more knowledge.
  17. Hells Bells Jack, belive me you are taking on a beauty of a job. Read a bit about the Franco -Prussian War of 1870 before you start on the Great War. It does make understanding the resons easier. The Guns of August is a good basic background and try this site. http://www.greatwar.nl/ Italso helps to understand why the Versaille treaty was so strong and probably laid the foundation for WW2.
  18. ' I was just impressed by the size of his weapon, Officer'. Why is it when you are going round roundabouts with trailer idiots try to get inside you?
  19. BUT NOT Country & Western, let me make it totally CLEAR, your dog may be dead, your horse has run off an little Elly May is away with the milkman, but your still singing. FINE!! the rest of us don't give a :argh: :argh: :n00b:
  20. If we wern't roowing the moderator would be out of a job. I would make a remark about a lot of dirty old men, but no one would belive I mean because we are always up to ears in oil grease and paint.
  21. Hi Mark, a day trip recce would be a good taster. There are several sites easy to get to, a good cash & carry for the more basic needs, and as you say, umpteen places for lunch. I can consult the real Great War Experts and get an itinerary. The Cloth Hall at Ieper and Zonnebecke are 2 obvious ones and Hill 60 as that has WW2 intrest. there is a WW1 pill box with a WW2 Panzer shell fuse still stuck in it. Also a nice cafe.Trouble is everywhere has something of intrest to some one. A 2 day trip would have to include Passeendale. And don't forget Tyne Cot about 15 minutes outside Ieper, that is somewhere anyone with an intrest in Military history should visit at least once.
  22. Thanks Joris, difference is the Netherlands have sensible prices for bits.
  23. Haig was really no better or worse than Von Falkenhym. Source documents at the time show a British Army that thought the war was just and were proud to stand up for 'Noble little Belgium'. Try Richard Holmes' book Tommy and Sigfried Sassons Memoirs of a fox Hunting man and Memoirs of an Infantry Officer. Holmes Dusty Soldiers is also worth a read about PWWR's exploits in Iraq. try reading all three and see the parallels. Having visited Essex Farm FDS where the poem 'In Flanders Fields' was written, I will wear the poppy with pride.
  24. Anyone any idea of the cost of new shoes for a WC51? I've found one shoe slightly contaminated and being a paranoid want to change the shoes on the front axle. Wondering wether the cost of relining would be about the same as new.
  25. I think one that goes well with any 4x4 is Jean Michel Jarres Oxygene.
