  1. So knowing the layout of the British Army, guess 2 In no particular order. Hindu, Siki amd muslim?
  2. Square- Cof E Coffin lid- Catholic Paddle -Jewish.
  3. Fauvorite rust sites, same as military. Bulk head and door tops, rear chassis member. One nasty habit the LWBs have is to rust right round chassis just in front of rear springs. A galvanised cahsis is worth paying extra for. In the civvy market people have a habit of beliving 'Land rovers never rust and so are worth a lot of money'. Alternate you can get a decent early Range Rover for the same money or even a decent early Discovery for les than £1500.
  4. Not saying a word been there on the 101. At least the Dodges keep running despite the mechanics.
  5. Depending on condition, expect to pay £300 to £500 with MOT unless it's very special. I can give you a number if your around the Kent/ Bromley area. Absolute maximum with gold plated door handles £1000
  6. Is this the pre mix stuff? I always used distilled water and blue in mine, the water round this part of Kent is hard enough to eat. I also add K bar when I change it. Touch wood over the years no problems in any vehicle. The manuals always recommend rain water. I also use melted ice from the fridge/freezer filtered through a coffee filter into plastic drink bottle. not tight just don't believe in the easy way.
  7. Good news, a visit to Plumbase and a series of adaptors ending with the one bigger than 1 inch BSP and it FITS!! A good trick for any intrnal threaded master cylinder.
  8. they represent the Religious belief of the person underneath.
  9. 1 get a bean tin open both ends. 2 cut slots and bed round Y 3 smear librally with exhaust repair paste. 4 Clamp firmly in place. this is a metal to metal repair and acceptable by MOT. I had an old Montego that went on for years with the odd replacement tin.
  10. Bugs in the system :-D http://www.tanygraig.force9.co.uk/John/vlr/form.htm#bottom
  11. and how often is your dinner in the dog?
  12. Used to ride horses across the Larkhill ranges, fantastic place. Also Twezeldown had its own horse cross country course. also hunted the plain with the RA Hunt. A point of intrest a good steady horse is still called Bomb proof or Tank proof.
  13. Absolutely right Snapper. Sassoon was not anti the war, his statement was that the war was being prolonged unnecessarily because the Allies would not publish their war aims. I won't go into the history, the books do it far better.
  14. Good tip, always ask nicely, and smile, if you can use a tripod. I use a Highlander Rambler photographer walking stick. it is an adjustable hiking pole with a camera thread in the top. Acts as a unipod.
  15. the tied soldier thing seems to be attached to several incidents. Another result was the binding of POWs, it was in a film but can't remember which one.
  16. Both these books were published in the 1930's by Sigfried Sassoon, better known as an 'Anti War Poet'. Both are semi autobiographical. I read them just after Dusty Warriors and found some interesting parallels. I won't explain why I put anti war in commas, read the books and think about it. not normal fodder for MV owners but worth a read.
  17. I've just finished reading it. Richard Holmes' style is to give you a feel of the world in which the soldier is operating. Dusty Warriors in particular is more like a chat with the blokes. The background of army organisation is intresting and necessary as it sets the scene. i would throughly recommend it, I read it in one sitting, found it excellent.
  18. Totally agree with the F&M disenfecting. Having seen what it can do to a herd, Christ!! the tears start thinking of it. Vehicles cannot catch it but they can spread it. Anyone thinking of green laning in the control areas, please don't.
  19. used to work at a place where they used deacted and replica land mines as door stops to p** of visiting politicians. One day I was backing a large vehicle very carefully into a tight spot, fag paper each side, some B**** decided to test a flash bang screamer. When I got unpeeled from the roof I did call them a few names.
  20. Have you done a complete internal on the engine, and do you know its history? It wouldn't do any harm to strip down before deciding. Then if you need any proffesional work done you'll know in advance.
  21. Which gaskets? There are some very good gasket retosring stuff about now. Try ARCO on the web, they do a lot of this stuff. http://www.arco.co.uk/cgi-bin/arcobvp.dll/Arco/controller Worth looking at as they also do stuff for rebuliding gear cogs and crank cases.
  22. One point of a proffesional re bulid or a new one is if it goes wrong you throw it back. I know its fun to do it yourself but do you have time space specalist knowledge and equipment etc? Sometimes works out a lot cheaper and easier to get new.
