Frost's do a lovley little piece of kit that replaces the positive battrey terminal. There is a screw in brass plug to make contact when you want to use it. No holes in the body, hiden nicley away. For modern vehicles there is a 10 amp fuse to keep things live.
Was sunny today in London till about 15:00 then in came the fog. Visibility now about 20 feet and the rear view mirrors icing up. Got off the bus and scraped the ice of the back of the mirrors.
As a kid we had one at the stables with a trailer fitted. Very powerful would pull five or six of us through a hedge, and frequently did. Can you imagine the uproar of letting kids do things like that now?
A LOOOONG time ago I was working for Godfrey Davis Hire Cars at Heathrow. A brand new X suffick Renault tractor unit with transporter was delivering cars ready for christmas rush. In the general ho ha a Ford Cortina estate got stuck on the transporter. Don the chief mechanic came to the rescue. While he was working underneath, the rest of us giving encouragement a well spocken lady of a certain age came up to us peered at Don who was under the trailer and said 'Excuse Me'. Don looked up and replied 'Not now darling I'm very busy' .
'Oh but it is important replied the gallant soul'
Don sighed 'Well what is it?'
'I think you'd like to know, your lorry's on fire'.
The driver had fitted a twelve volt radio cassete on a single tap.
My advice a proper well fused converter.
Just got in from a late shift 23:15 Chuffing cold out there, also seem to be a lot of people hobbling about on crutches. :cool2: TFL putting out black ice warnings, bless them, they've finally looked out the window!
Glad to hear about no experiments :-D There is an idea in UK called 'Bangernomics' The idea is buy an older privatly owned reliable make of a good make such as Volvo or Mercedes, under £800. Do most of the work yourself and if anything goes seriously wrong, just dump it. Don't know what things are like for you but currently bigger older cars over here are going very cheap.
Joris any idea you may have of experimenting with 11 year old cars? FORGET IT MATE!!!!!! One try is enough. :nono:
Though so saying, somebody tryed clipping the front of my Volvo at about 50mph whilst trying to leave a dual cariageway. The Volvo rocked slighty and has a crease in the front wing. The other car a FIAT went bowling off in all directions. Fortunatley no one hurt.
