  1. Trains are 'vehicles' and considering the place they played, and still play in Military Logistics, I say there very relevant.
  2. Can we just add for those who may follow, ALWAYS wear a dust mask, a good one, when machinging MDF, the dust can be nasty stuff.
  3. Morning Kev, sell the kids and buy an MV, lot less wear and tear on the pocket and brain.
  4. 'Oak Tanned Leather' That's the best you can get! Most definitley 'English Quality' The tan= Tannin got from Oak bark. Used for best quality saddle and harness work. Normally , a bit like Harris Tweed, such leather is always marked. Leather is a subject in itself but I'd recommend a coat of Neats (Cow) foot oil or Coachaline, a type of preserving grease for leather before fitting. The oil will darken the leather as well as make it supple. If you are laying up anything leather either on a vehicle of on kit Coachaline is great for preserving it.
  5. Well worth sealing them with a stuff like Nixwak, also are the originals chrome tan? Easy to tell look at the side of the leather. You will see three distinct bands. Dark top and bottom lighter middle. like a sandwich. The diffrence is that heavy duty, white/bluey looking leather such as used on Dodge tilt straps is a mineral tan, waterproof. The leather used in shoes and clothes is a vegtable tan, this won't stand the wear.

  16. :cool2:They were doing something similar at Chatham Dockyard last year, for Armed Forces Day. I was to busy playing on the range simulator, till they physically prised me away.
  17. Rivalry seems to be inbred, hardly suprising, each recurit is taught is their regiment is the best, the rest just tag along. What about such appelations as Run Away Someones Coming, or the Hampshire/ Royal Hampshire cap badge reffered to by others as the 'Cat and Cabbage'. 'The Rampant Pansy' of the Intelligence Corps? The old joke about Scottish regiments was 'We have to send them to war, it stops them fighting everybody else!' And if we confine them to barracks they fight each other'. Military hunmour is always dark, its one way of coping with what they have to do.
