  1. Intrestingly, notice despite the common belif that the Western Front was a wasteland, there are trees and the road bed appears in good condition. Also the end clip of the steamer the three, possibly four revetted dug out bays could be an articulation test, maybe repaired carragies?
  2. I know tankers have a cavalary background. But opening a stud?
  3. RO Northampton wasn't it?
  4. got mine this afternoon! 160 pages, but I have had to cook dinner!:n00b: Flash Forward by Robert J Sawyer is published 6th October so got it reserved. also from Britian at War on renwal of subscription Escape to Freedom, by Tony Johnson, an airman's story of escape and evasion.
  5. Back to 'We should have a moddlers section'? I am very jealous of the moddlers on here. There skill is superb.
  6. OR the bit where the half track goes forward, and the van stays still... something has to give! :-D Seen similar using a steel cable, despite the advice given numptys decided to carry on. The rest of us decided afterwards that the bumper of the stuck vehicle had been cut off very cleanly.
  7. Yep no dinner for him tonight! :-D Question is , what the *** was he thinking letting a complete muppet near a firearm for anyway? :nono:
  8. Sleep on which one? Wouldn't a bed be more comfortble? :-D Was the term 'Gooney Bird' ever used in the RAF? The Dak is still the 'Transit' of the air. The first time I flew on one I was about 5 years old, flying unacompanied, in those days they would stick you on the jump seat of the cockpit to keep you out of the way. Didn't really relaise how lucky I was. One of those airlines that no longer exists Cambrian.
  9. What there not telling is the Transit is going in reverse pulling the half track! :cool2:
  10. You'll catch up eventually. :noyay: One good thing , no mobile phones!! A friend's first child, a son, was born on Sunday. His first little picture he has his hand up by his ear , are kids being born like that now?
  11. Nice find, bet it isn't in that condition though.
  12. I LIKE your idea of fun! :yay:
  13. Would wodden whels have been used as they would have been easier to repair replace than steel? After all there were still plenty of wheelwrights and carraige makers about at the time.

  15. Much ordanace and weapons were made in US to UK spec. The Americans charged for ordance and fuel used by Brtish forces, but used British manufactured and supplied without paying. I have a Mossberg MB42a riflre, .22 Bolt action one of about 42,000 manufactured for UK at a cost of $10 each. They were then fitted with Paker Hale sights. Mine traces by serial number to one of the last batches of 21, 000 delivered February 1941. The top of the barrel is stamped US Goverment Property, because of course at the time the US was netural but was supplying Lease/Lend, you can't 'Lease or 'Lend' something you don't own, hence the barrel stamp. Many weapons were also supplied by voluntary donation during the 'Send a Gun to Defend a British Home campaing. Many of these subsequently ended up in Home Gaurd units. Some however, mainly Winchester and some of the Mossbergs were fitted with scopes and moderators (Silencers), these were reputed to have been issued to The Home Gaurd Auxilary Units, as assasination weapons. One of the tasks of such groups , should an invasion have happned , was to assasinate , fiendly personal who knew of thier existence!!!! and colabarators!
  16. Ah them were the days, pas the Horlicks and hemaroid cream , Time for our nap! :coffee:
  17. Cullen, invented by Seargent Cullen, otherwise known as the Rhino. The forks welded onto the front of a tank to stop it cresting over the hedge banks. Originally made from the obstacles removed from the landing beaches. I do seriously doubt wethere they would actually shove through a hedge bank, considering how tough they are with intertwined roots etc. The idea was the tank could get up to the bank and fire over the top without riding up and exposing the underbelly.
  18. And the Royal Brothers as a tag team. Everyone's baddy Micke Mcmanus. On one occasion someone fouled Big Daddys Tag partener. BD jumped into the ring and went for the guiy! Four burly great blokes collared BD and shoved him into the corner, he then pushed back and sent all four flying, the baddy in the meantime was steaming off out of the ring!
