  1. Air Mechanic 2nd class may not sound much. But then he was in the forfront of a brand new service. So how many had the training to be anything else? A quick flit shows the first RFc casualties were Lt R Skene and Air Mechanic Ray Barlow at Netheravon 12/08/1914. So maybe wasn't a cushy ground job.
  2. Dave. I can see why that appealed to you! :-D Some of them can't see a **** Coach!
  3. welcome along. Sure we can all help.
  4. Looks like a couple of old Peugeout 404 estate cars. :cool2: Happy memories of the back of one of them. That pair of wheels holding up the back of the tractor, wonder what that story is?

    keep safe!

Ah it's arrived then! :-D Sent by special delivery. Now sunny and dry.
  6. One other point is insurance. My Volvo as main car, being older and therefore only third party fire and theft, is £350 a year. The Disco as a second car.....£165! So I can afford to have two toys at less cost than one expensive type car. If I ever do choose to get rid of one, I loose virtually nothing. As for the scrappage scheme, get rid of your big old banger and get a nice little eco friendly match box! Funny how many new big cars suddenly apperead.
  7. Welcome, you sound quite normal. By our standards anyway.

Should have sen it from about Midnight Sunday to 4 am Monday. Lashing down in London. Not mush wind but the roads were rivers.
  9. Found this from War Ilustrated Dated February 28TH 1941,
  10. Great finds. As you say what more is about?
  11. Welcome John. Like the vampire.
  12. Ever heard of 'Bangernomics?' Buy an old car, of a good reputable make that has been well maintained. The idea is to keep the purchase price at no more than £1000. Then run the vehicle with basic maintinece till it falls apart and throw away. I paid £450 for my Volvo 850 SE estate automatic five years ago. Costs apart from a couple of oil changes, two tyres, reclaimed, a couple of bulbs. I've done about 35,000 miles. The first major cost has been £99.76 for a cam belt kit. Thats belt, idler and tensioner.
  13. No... mutter... it is on the Lottery list. Though probably to be kept on the rock, they can be live over there.

Very true, I'll take a horse cross country in preference to a vehicle any time. :-D
  15. Funny how the Neutral countries always have the best kit! Mind you their poloticians have major grief wit every casualty. fascinating can't wait for more pictures and info,
  16. No Steve I don't think you are being cynical at all. Winston Churchill was quite happy to put other men in the way of harm. And British Civillian's. From a distance you can say it was 'a nessicity of war', but from the viewpoint of those that had to live with the consequences. Churchill is not seen as a hero by all.
  17. KERR Kinetic Energy, the energy imparted to an object by movement. A KERR rope acts like a spring. The movement applied by the towing vehicle stretches the rope this is then stored as POTENTIAL. As the inertia is overcome the 'spring' then moves very fast increasing the A in the formula, hence more force. Same as snatch towing, The formula for Kinetic energy is Mass x velocity squared over two
  18. Who for? :shake: I'd love one but,,,,,,
  19. Whole bag of Ferret's in this one. Supposedley there was a lot of political gain from it, the US and Russia were shown the Britian still had an offensive capability. There was also the seed of Hobart's funnies planted. Though an amphibious attack using tanks was proposed in 1917.

I'll ride one anytime. Driving a horse, scares the *** out of me. At least when your on one you know what's going on! The entire horse is moving under you and feel the muscles tense. Stuck out in front, sooner you than me.
  21. Haven't you got a Gnome to go to? :-D
