  1. Yes, apparently it is the same Panther tank bought by the now elderley German owner from Hardwicks yard in 1977, they had given up trying to cut it up! It was one of several German tanks assembled at the captured factory after the war by the British Army and used for evaluation by FVEE later FVRDE it was then later sold for scrap to Hardwicks. pic of tank being loaded at Hardwickshttps://www.flickr.com/photos/63949809@N03/6916755222 The Sdkfz Foundations restored Jagdpanzer was another tank assembled from parts, then after evaluation trials ended up as a range target on Pirbright ranges
  2. I think all the NOS original Jeep gearbox syncros are long gone or stashed away in private spares collections, only repro syncro units are available
  3. You have lots of room, here is maximising use of a limited space, try restoring a Jeep underneath another one! ..Landlord wanted to charge more rent when he saw I had squeezed two Jeeps into one lock up garage!!
  4. Amazing what is for sale on Gumtree these days http://www.gumtree.com/p/hobbies-collectibles/panavia-tornado-gr1-real-aircraft-/1080357134
  5. To put an accurate value on the speedo would need to see some good pics to confirm its authenticity and its not a repro, which model speedo it is, and indeed if its for a ww2 Jeep
  6. No, I did not put Registration services verification to the test as I unexpectantly sold the Jeep, unregistered as is, maybe the new owner may use them

  11. The previous post is not relevant, Chrysler archive holds ww2 Dodge build records, but they hold No Willys/Ford MB/GPW production records. What do you know about your Jeep? a recent import or been in UK for years? I don't think there are generally any records that you could trace a particular Jeeps Military history. The chassis number can only show when it was built and what contract is was built under, if you possibly found its original military serial number on the hood/bonnet side or other markings would be more chance of tracing its past, always a vague chance of matching it to original photographs, but majority of Jeeps have been rebuilt at least once and parts got swapped around so any numbers/markings found may not always relate to the original chassis. If it was an ex British Army Jeep some records do exist Often see Jeeps at shows and for sale with rather wild claims of where it was used during the war, but I think majority are pure fiction with no actual real evidence to back up the claims. Check out John Farleys excellent books "The Standardised Wartime Jeep" vol 1-2 for loads of info and original pics
  12. Not quite correct, Defender type Landrovers built before 2002 Only Passenger diesel Landrovers, ie. registered as station wagon/estate with side windows and 9 or less seats are exempt from LEZ. Pre 2002 PLG diesel Commercial variants, hardtop van, pickup truck cab, military canvas top utility landrovers are Not exempt unless re engined with a later TD5 euro3 compliant engine or had the very expensive exhaust particulate filter fitted. The LEZ rules apply to Any PLG diesel commercial based vehicle over 1.205kg unladen All new diesel commercial vehicles built from 2002 on had Euro3 LEZ compliant engines
  13. I had a phone conversation with the owner of the company, Vehicle registration services, and he assured me they seldom get any rejected vehicle registration applications to DVLA using his companies services. I am about to test his claim with a Jeep registration

  19. Pre war type, Two half cups, the lower cup fixed to towbar which the ball rests in, the upper movable one clamped down, holding the ball, ..not seen one for many years.
  20. Read my post again, the rolling 40 year historic exempt road tax IS already implemented Now
  21. At the moment MOT exemption applies to pre 1960 vehicles, The 30 year rolling MOT exemption is an EU directive proposal for member states to adopt, as it will need a change in UK Law it was up for consultation, the law changes are to come by 2018, so nothing happening for a few years if it does become accepted. Result of the consultation and decision to be announced so nothing definate yet. http://www.dft.gov.uk/classic-mot/ As of April 2015 the 40 year rolling Historic road tax exemption is now operating https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/293910/TIIN_2507_8011_40_year_rolling_exemption_for_classic_vehicles_.pdf
  22. I did actually describe this procedure in my answer right at the start of this thread !
  23. Are the tappets noisy? if the engine is running quiet and no tappets clacking probably best left alone, its a bit of a fiddly job especially the tappets behind the end of exhaust manifold. To access the tappets you need to remove the right front wheel and remove the inner wing splash panel to access the engine side plates, you will need new cork gaskets when re fitting the two side plates. The engine should be at running temperature, best to follow the procedure as in the manual, remove the spark plugs too it makes it easier to turn the engine over, its then a standard procedure, work on opposite valves, ie ..if the 3rd valve from the right is fully open check the clearance on the 3rd valve in from the left, and so on, mark them with chalk as you go shows which ones are done
  24. Probably a result of todays rubbish petrol that actually has a use by date, it deteriorates after a few months and leaves residue that blocks the carb jets and can eat through fuel pump diaphrams and rubber pipes. Clean the carb out, drain the old stale fuel and put in fresh
  25. Got my " Bull***t Remover" can ready for the show season, available from all good motor factors. Spray liberally when you hear the usual boring tales... "Grandpa had a yard full of new Jeeps in crates, he paid £10 each for them" and "I knew a Man who bought a 3 tonner at the sales and found it full of new motorbikes in the back" ....more spraying.......alas cannot be guaranteed to be effective against Politicians that seem to be impervious to the spray
