  1. Rick Make sure you allow 2 to 3 hours at Robs place to view his very fine collection (and for Mrs N to demonstrate her superb tea making capabilities)..! Cheers Tim
  2. Various threads have also suggested matt paint can be restored / protected with a wipe of diesel or wd40... Generally though it is a pain in the ar*e unless you dont mind respraying every few years..
  3. Brilliant ! Have talked about doing this in the past but never actually got round to it. Did you run out the whole 700ft of cable!
  4. I hate (cr)apple devices sometimes! If you search for a thread titled the Alvis Fighting Vehicle Soceity (sic) started by Sallidan on 22/1/12 then you will see a pic of it as it looks now... Cheers Tim
  5. Pete Briliant - gobsmacked!! The bottom photo is the one I had found.. Having not owned her for that long I only have a couple of pics but I will post them up once i get onto my PC (cant post from ipad) She was in a very sorry state but was fully restored 3 years ago and now just needs a bit of finishing off. If you have any more pics i would be very keen to see them.. Cheers Tim

    Books!!

Periodically dipping in and out of Alanbrookes war diaries on Bob Grundys recommendation and very good it is too. A different and interesting perspective on ww2. And no I still dont know who Stuart of the tank corps was! Also reading on and off: Saladin user manual Various issues of cmv and mmi Books - love em - for me the kindle/ ipad etc will never replace the tactile pleasure of a good book!!!
  7. Pete Nice vehicle is it yours? Trust you are in contact with Jim (Fugly) about his restoration. I have 07 BB 10 in my care which at one time was XRH. I found an in service pic of it on one of the websites (but i dont think it was yours?).. Cheers Tim
  8. Very sad and lets not forget only one of many thousands of such incidents. It is right that these films still have the ability to shock. The first time I watched the footage of HMS Barham going down I was gobsmacked and horrified... RIP
  9. Steve Looks like fun esp the fishtailing! Reminds me of W&P this year.. Cheers TIm
  10. I know there have been threads in the past with Budge photos posted but I can honestly say I never get bored of 'em - just mind blowing and shows how things can change not just over decades but in relatively short periods of time. I dont think we will see the like again....!

    Belzona

Well if it's still running it must be good stuff!!
  12. If youre feeling energetic cut gate is an awesome mountain bike ride...hadnt realised there were AFV's up there will keep my eyes peeled in future. Had heard that North America Farm was used for mortar practice in war so that would tally with the uxb's I guess...
  13. Ok not spotted as such but sat in hospital with my 5 year old (home this weekend hopefully) watching Mr Tumble on cbeebies and what pops up but a Westland Scout and a TACR2..! Not sure he fully appreciated it if im honest....
  14. Scam.... And before you put a brick through his window the address wont be real either! Sadly there are people out there who waste their lives doing this. Its not hard to do and I guess he only needs 1 person in a hundred to fall for it and he's in profit...
  15. Whilst I am inclined to agree with all of the above I also think if it makes his family, and others, reflect on the sacrifice made by their grandfather and past generations then good luck to 'em! RIP....
  16. What about trying a small radiator roller? Based on some previous posts this seems to offer very good results...
  17. If you have a wii attached to your telly and a wifi connection you can watch it on telly. The quality definitely isnt HD but it is a much more pleasant experience than watching it on a crappy pc...
  18. For those of you who served - the opportunity to reminisce....so far have seen some footage of Centurions, Ferrets, QL's...just finishing it off on iplayer.
  19. Also goes to show how ground pressure is on CVRT, should've used a Chally but then I guess would not make such good telly as one pass and they would all be flat!!
  20. I also hadnt realised that different needle profiles were available giving different finishes, for example pointed tips for a rougher surface finish and flatter tips to provide a degree of polish. Good site that Trelawny one....
  21. Although I've not come across wet blasting before, Ive just read a bit about it and I have to say it looks like it might work very well in MV's as it seems to avoid the sort of messy clean up you get with sand blasting, and to be capable of being used with much more finesse. Would be interested to hear if anybody has used it...
  22. I have one of the machine mart blast pots which if combined with a big enough compressor is great for small items but would take MONTHS to do a whole vehicle...get a professional in then it will be done in two days! You can use blasting on cvrts - I had my Spartan done earlier this year but you need to be careful and it is VERY messy, despite best efforts it took for ever to get crap out of all the nooks and crannies. I have also seen a very nice Sabre which years after sandblasting still makes horrible grinding noises when turning the turret! Following Jon Pentons approach seems to be the most efficient way ie a big rotary wire brush on an angle grinder. My advice (which isnt necessarily the best I have to say just one angle!) would be to remove whatever you can - decking, bins, smokes etc and have these blasted and primed separately, then block the vehicle up wheels and tracks off and wire brush/ needle gun followed by priming and painting (you need to rejack and move the blocks to get at the covered bits). Then put it all back together and finish it off with a final coat to bring it all together. Or you could do what the army do and employ an old english sheep dog, cover it in green paint and let it roll around on your vehicle a few times... Just keep telling yourself it will be worth it when its done... Cheers Tim
  23. Looks like great fun I dont think any of us do enough of that sort of thing with our vehicles..makes all the expense, ballache and hard work worth it to have a bit of fun from time to time..!
  24. Im in two minds about this one. I do like the look of bulged tyres on a model but if you actually look at photos of the real thing in most cases the sidewalls dont have any bulging - maybe a bit of flatting off which can easily be replicated but no discernible bulge? Of course it is not a problem you get on a cvrt anyway..!
