  1. Looked like rather a big bang. God knows what sort of mess a 'cookie' would have made...?
  2. Glad to hear it ive just ordered a saladin parts manual from him off ebay (ahem!)..
  3. Just taken some photos of the spare i have in my garage. There is a plastic sleeve which contains the return spring and is held in place by the thin nut. Cant post the pics from ipad! The sleeve should be hard against the pinion and only moves when the drive shaft rotates. Are the nut and spring still in the bottom of the engine bay somewhere? I can send you the spring, sleeve and nut if not but you will have to hang on for a few days. The spare one is u/s anyway and if I ever repair it I can easily swap the nut over from another one. Cheers Timbo
  4. Watched this when it was on - a brilliant and sobering programme. Have to admit that i hadnt realised an ATO's job was primarily, well, to inspect stored ammunition...quite a leap from that to deciding which wire to cut!
  5. Hmmm doesnt look right to me - I have a spare starter in the garage will post a pic when i get home tonight... Cheers Timbo
  6. The Marcus batteries whilst cheap dont seem to last very long. I googled a couple of places and found some branded commercial equivalents for about £170. These have lasted 2 years, never been charged and crank like billyo.. The civilian equivalent of the gel filled hawkers seem to be about £5-600 each!!
  7. Seen this a few times a great story with a tragic end. Could have been much worse though if the home made fuel system had gone up once they were airborne. Hindsight is a wonderful thing i know but you would have thought having gone to all that trouble they would put a proper fuel system in place...
  8. How odd? When I changed the batteries on my Sabre Im sure they went through the top hatches, albeit with a lot of grunting and swearing....lowering them in with rope helps as you definitely cant get them through while stood in the hatch...and yes they were 6NT 120 amp so the same size as the Hawker ones...
  9. Brilliant pics of a brilliant weekend Jon Im still buzzing now...
  10. I wouldnt worry about the price mate, remember when you buy from Withams you have to add vat, and you're getting a completely unknown quantity. Looks nice and complete inside. If you spend a couple of days in there cleaning up you will be surprised what can be achieved.. Enjoy....just dont ask me to help you change the batteries..!
  11. I am reasonably sure this is the vehicle that came from Withams via their auction site 3 or 4 years ago... I think there was a post about it at the time I will try to find it. As to where it was prior to that who knows!? Found the post but dont know how to link to it. It was in November 2009 if you search withams scorpion you will find it...
  12. Andy I would be interested to know if you have seen any improvement from your new seals..? Cheers Tim
  13. Missed the fireworks but the wall of death (demon drome) was truly awesome.. Driving tanks seemed a bit tame by comparison!
  14. Why bother with a mini-digger even if it did qualify, especially as you have a Scorpion..! I did mine off my own back partly to save money but also coz I have my own vehicles and spend a lot of time seeking and taking advice from people more knowledgeable than myself. Don't understand why people would want to short cut the learning process...at the end of the day it's a big responsibility esp on road. It is one thing hacking round a field where it doesn't matter if you get it wrong by 6 foot - do that on the road and you will be in big trouble..! OK lecture over..!
  15. I have the opposite problem, Spartan is still easier to get in and out of but I can hardly see out with scopes and smokes in place! Find the Sabre has much better visibility and would imagine much easier on road (not been on road in Spartan as yet)...
  16. Terry Brooks usually gets very good recommendations but not sure where he is although it is 'down south' somewhere (as is anywhere south of sheffield!)... Alternatively get the dvla booklet on specialist driving tests, read it cover to cover several times and get out and practice...total cost £62.50 plus petrol of course..! There have been a number of threads on h tests if you search for it.
  17. Sounds about right usually costs me £40-50 per pallet...
  18. I find Marcus Glenns spray version of what he describes as light engine blue is a pretty good match and sprays very well....
  19. Well they managed to reverse engineer F14 Tomcats, and Phoenix air to air missiles so I would guess upgrading Chieftains/ CVRT's should not be too hard by comparison..!
  20. Vehicles started moving into main field yesterday and first tents going up. Field lovely and dry. Just to be going on with here's one of the Spartan which will be in the arena at some point (I hope!) Cheers Timbo
  21. Have looked at this again but still can't get it working from ipad..have looked at tapatalk but its £1.99 and sorry but i dont pay for apps, been burnt too many times before! Guy - if you dont have access to a pc send me a pm and ill send you my email so i can post for you.. Cheers Tim
  22. Phil Ill be there mate, particularly looking forward to Mr Baker standing the first round! Cheers Tim
  23. Looking forward to seeing this progress Jon, the end of an era! Surely though you need to change your username now..? Cheers Tim
