  1. A good friend has a Norton big four ...a civilian model C1938 but must admit I never considered it as an off road bike ... I see the military used it pre war and up to dunkirk , but Sdecars appear to disappear of the inventory in favour of 4wd jeeps and Bikes ... great looking kit though ... Regards Jenkinov
  2. Thanks to all for the comments and top 5/10 listing ...Must admit to a bit of disappointment that the 3sw is near the bottom of the list but its not much lighter than the other bikes and is 350cc ,,,,, OK lets change to off road ............Which are the top 5/10 for fieldwork.... Jenkinov
  3. I appreciate that we dont own these bikes for their performance .....But interested in understanding how the bikes rated in both acceleration and top speed ... Is there a top 5 for acceleration and speed ? How does the triumph 3sw and HW perform with the smaller engine Jenkinov

Paint ....I use a Motor Factors in Bishop auckland who will both colourmatch the paint and also put it in Spray Tins ...Whilst i fully appreciate they are too far away i would anticipate that you will have Motor Factors /Spares dealers with the sae capability in the Dorset area ...Works out about £8 tin ,,,Matched and ready to spray Jenkinov

WDBikemad ...Thanks for the Idea ,,I went to Sabre Sales this Weekend and must admit I was impressed at the Store ,,Masses of 38 Webbing and at very reasonable prices ,,,But Whilst he had literally Hundreds of Greek and Canadian Battledresss they were all in the Smaller Sizes ...Suitable for 17yr old recruits .............But not unfortunately anything over waist size 31 ,,,,, The Hunt continues ,,,,,,,,,,Jenkinov

Having posted an advert in the Wants section and got no replies i was hoping your collective knowledge could help me in tracking down a pair of dutch Battledress trousers .....These are basically 1938 pattern and in a Serge Green colour similar to Canadian WW2 ,,, I am ideally after a 36 waist but 34plus is acceptable ...Based on the Labelling i have seen in these trousers this is a Size 50 + ...I have managed to track down a few Pairs over the last few months but so far these have fitted my Sons ,,, I am hopefull someone will know of a dealer with a Stock ......Any ideas..   10. A Question in a few parts 1 Can you still get WW2 Pattern Knee Pads for A Triumph 3sw/HW 2 How do you remove them. 3 How do you refit them.. I have seen lots of tanks without the Knee Pads ..My tank has some that are in good condition for their age but I was interested to see if i could easily remove them to repair the tank ...? Jenkinov

Its always a balance ..with most of my motorbikes ..A triumph 3SW I have always struggled for parts so .My natural route is to repair , but I have a troublesome petrol tank and despite the authenticity issue would swop it for a replacement if I could .... If ypu can get a frame I fully understand your decision..... Jenkinov

My opinion differs in that if I could repair it safely I would try ..the frame has surface corrosion and I would suggest getting rid of this to asses if the frames repairable or to heavily corroded ..You can get Rust removing Dips and Gels and I would Soak the frame in a dip and see what you are left with ... At that point you can make an assesment of its strenght ..There are a number of specialist companies that can do frame rebuilds and straigthens and I would suggest getting the frame in for professional work....   15. Nice photo ...The 3HWs are a great bike and one with a good reputation for performance by 1940 standards ,,,I am Quitly keeping an eye out for one myself .... Please add the bike to the Triumph Register . They remain a rarity in europe and its always helpfull to have contacts Jenkinov P.S any more photos

The Triumph register is Quite usefull in that it lists other 3HWs other bikes and can assist in identifying where your bike fits in the sequence http://wdtriumph.nl/3hwframe.html The nearest bike frame no to yours is TL58387 ...........however all the engine nos linked with these contain 3HW.....   18. David ..I have recently joined the Garrison ....http://www.thegarrison.org.uk/ and restoring 25 pounders mTo firing condition appears to be undertaken by a few specialists in the group . In terms of values its down to condition in the last few years i have seen prices from a few thousand up to 10K ( but whilst they asked for that on milweb i am unsure if the price was actually achieved ) I would suggest getting detailed photos and contacting the Garrison for Guidance ...   22. Excellent to see the debate on 2014 hotting up already ....Planning to be there and if possible taking both the Jeep and triumph 3SW ...Hoping that the friendly insurers can be pursuaded to allow my 17 year old to drive the Triumph and jeep to allow us to move them both around ..... Jenkinov

Ken /Stu Thanks for putting on the wartime experience ...My Crew Had a great time ..met some greatt veterans ...Drove the Jeep in real mud and actually had to engage the 4 wheel drive ...Slept in a DUKW ...Fired 25 pounders ...and drove round the arena with the tanks/stalwarts etc we enjoyed the experience as much as the mad scots WW1 re enactors who considered the mud as the best part of the event .. Roll on next year Jenkinov
