  1. Excellent news that it might be going to a member of the MVT ..I must admit I did discuss it seriously with my son as a restoration project but I havent finished the Triumph 3SW yet so I have decided not to pursue it but It would be a great bike and a curiosity on the circuit .. Fingers crossed that you can secure it Jenkinov

  3. Whilst browsing for military bikes for sale bumped into the following advert ... This bike is a rare WD Model "L" one of only 250 produced for the War department under contract number 294/C/8620, It is in essence a pre war civilian model that was militarised and after its demob from service was returned to civilian colours. This bike is in un restored condition and does not have any lighting/electrics apart from ignition mag. The engine /gearbox have been removed (Engine stripped for rebuild) (all boxed and present)the rest is a rolling chassis. The bike has a v5 If you want the link go to my thread under for sale ...British and American bikes spotted ... Can anyone verify or comment the above ...any photos of military Royal Enfields Model Ls ,,or were these bikes effectively pressed civilian bikes and used in Civilian colours .. Jenkinov

  15. Can anyone help ..do the individual army soft skin vehicle records ...include motorbikes ? ............................................................................................................................................................ http://www.army.mod.uk/rlc/history/17719.aspx RLC Museum B Vehicle History Card Archive The RLC Museum holds the Army B Vehicle History cards previously held by the Museum of Army Transport. These cards can help trace the history of individual Army soft-skin vehicles that were in service with the British Army from the early 1940s. The RLC Museum offers owners of B Vehicles the opportunity to obtain a scanned copy of the vehicle history card for their vehicle. How to obtain a copy of your vehicle history card In order to obtain a scanned copy of a vehicle history card you will need to provide THE RLC Museum with your vehicle's equipment registration number (ERM). If you only have the vehicle make and chassis number it may still be possible to find a card for your vehicle. Any other data such as the contract number and year of manufacture may also be helpful in searching for a vehicle's card. There is a non-refundable research fee for this service. For the research of one vehicle, there is a charge of £25 (£15 for members of the Friends of The RLC Museum) and £15 for any additional vehicles accompanying your enquiry. Cheques must be made payable to 'The RLC Museum Trust Fund'. Cheques together with your vehicle's details should be sent to: B Vehicle Records, The Royal Logistic Corps Museum, The Princess Royal Barracks, Blackdown Road, Deepcut, Camberley, Surrey, GU16 6RW ............................................................................................................................................................. 16. I have just revisited a heavy AA gun Site that I visited 15 years ago using google earth and it looks very similar in design to the patterns you have seen they were normally circular or Hex shaped and the indents are for ammunition storage . Most gun batteries in ww2 were 4 gun batteries .. Jenkinov
  17. I concluded typing my story of the Buried heavy AA Gun Battery in Bishopton Renfrewshire and then thought of the size of the place and doubted the farmers ability to bury the site so hunted again on Google Maps ,, Much to my pleasure and....... embarrasment I re found the site 4 not 3 Gun batteries ...On Battery Lane to the East of Bishopton .. If I can figure out how tp take a screen shot from Google I will post it ,, Jenkinov
  18. Between 1990 and 1996 I lived in Bishopton in Renfrewhire ..During the War the Village had been the site of a huge munitions factory with a large holding yard but as production of Munitions continued the Munitions family was never shown on a Map .. During the war the site appeared to have Barrage balloons and a heavy AA gun Battery .. The battery was located Due east of the Village and consisted of 3 Concrete hexagonal Gun Pits a central control Bunker and a variety of concrete bunkers for personnel ...I was shown the Site by a local historian who had collected shell cases from the site after the war ..The Local farmer had recovered the land surrounding the battery but unable to convert the area back to farming had used the site for dumping and in the early 90s most buildings were half buried ..I have looked at recent aerial photos and the site is no longer visible so i think the farmer won and buried the entire site Still its probably 90% intact and will make a great time team dig in 2044 ...... 19. Ken ...After the war my Dad purchased a sheepskin Jacket at the Gates to a RAF Base and used it as his Motorbike bike Jacket .......It was used by a variety of his brothers and was then passed to my brother who unfortunately fell off his bike and tore the arm ...By the time it was my turn the Jacket was in a poor condition and went to Long term storage in the loft ... We recovered it a few weeks ago but found it was pretty cardboard like and the sheepskin surface was pretty poor ....Anyway I experimented ansd its worked ...I would have started with Saddle soap to put some moisture back in the sheepskin but was concerned applying this as a rub would not work ...So I got a good quality dubbing and tested it on the sheepskin ...Worked well rubbing it into a test area and it re surfaced the sheepskin .....So I upscaled the plan and stuck a healthy blob of dubbing in the Microwave and turned it into a liquis ...I got a craft paintbrush and painted it onto the sheepskin ...Its a bit alarming as it dries a white waxy appearance but be brave ,, After I had painted the Jacket i basically sat and polished in the dubbing ...The Surface of the sheepskin looked great ..but it was still very cardboard like ..I stuck it in a suit cover and hung it in the garage for a month ... The sheepskin has clearly absorbed the dubbing and is now flexible and wearable .. My old man had always assumed it was a RAF Jacket but the lables show its a USAF jacket .... Jenkinov
  20. Since Acquiring my Triumph 3SW I have been very impressed by the support that i have recieved from other Triumph owners ,, 3SW.3HW.5SW but have also been Suprised at how few appear to be in the public domain through the HMVF/MVT or listed on the Web . In Comparison with BSA or Matchless riders ..we are a much smaller group , with less contact and less help with Spares or technical Knowledge . I have identified a Triumph Bike Register on the following web Site http://wdtriumph.nl/index.html If you have a Triumph please Register Jenkinov
