  1. I turned onto a programme called americas ww2 on Forces TV tonight ..Friday the 23rd of November and saw a clip where Calliopes were fired from a GMC 352 ..The 3 Clips showed A line around 10 GMCs each with 2 banks of Calliopes firing ..The second Clip showed the US soldiers firing the battery and the 3rd a close up from the rear of the GMC ..the two racks each had 5 tubes ..so 10 toes per vehicle ...In about 5/6 second they fired 100 rounds .. OK interesting but i have never seen or heard of GMCs fitted with Calliopes ..The vehicles are clearly GMC and 352 but potentially whilst presented as ww2 could be post war or Korea,,,,, I have been unable to trace any reference to Calliopes on GMC other than Russia ...Any Info ... 3. A few areas to explore but the best route would be to insure the vehicle with a military vehicle specialist .check they offer show cover..the vehicle. Would need registering for road use but is likely to be both tax and mot exempt....in essence licence.tax and insure it for road use...check with the broker.insurer the show.cover will be sufficient.. Jenkinov UOTE=Lindsay;453732]Thanks Tony. I have rung round so many different insurers and drawn a blank. Tried Cherished but couldn't get through to them this afternoon, will try again tomorrow. Have also tried a specialist bike insurer who think they maybe able to help!
  4. Whilst civilians the helmet markings would follow civilian defence guidelines..So CP was Command Post..common were SFP street fire party and FG fire guard. You could buy them pre war for 5shillings but it seems unlikely a civilian would add CP as during a raid he could cause confusion...with fire watchers .police and firemen potentially seeking direction to the firebombings They were not used post war. jenkinov
  5. I have owned my jeep for 12 years and try to carry a sensible collection of spares on the vehicle ..plugs.contacts.distributors head.contacts etc...This year however the jeep has had a Goodyear for reliability and on review a big factor is poor quality parts....my stock.pile of spares is with a critical eye mostly crap... The morale is therefore cheap.parts are not always good but sometimes.items I have paid top dollar for are little better.the issue is most parts are bought over the post.internet and you don't know the quality until they arrive... I wanted to propose a thread where we could highlight really really good parts... So as someone who needs 2 of everything ...any shout outs My wants list Ignition leads Distributor cap..that fit Condenser...that last Plug caps Plugs 6v coils Fuel filter...copper But keen to get any the heads up on any top end spares Jenkinov
  6. Great show ....really enjoyed the whole show seems to get better each year..some great kit and displays and always good to see the tanks and rarer kit my jeep has had a very troublesome year ,I like most owners have built up a stock.of parts..but this year found a real issue with good quality parts ..I bought some distributor caps off the internet and the quality was very poor...in fact most of my spares are now poor quality .the jeep drove to YwE without issue but broke down in the display circuit ..a big thank you to Ian Garbutt who towed me with his GMC... After a few distributors and condensors /leads and lots of advice it got home. I now need to source some good quality parts..... Jenkinov
  7. I had a few restoration projects tucked away ..but looks like I will have some time to spend on them shortly so starting to think through the best way to deal with them..one is a Bantam t3 ...the trailer has all the correct plates and nos ..but the body has been galvanised at Some point in its life...the issue I face is that the owner before me used it to move rubble so the galvanisation has been scrubbed off and I have protected the bed with Kurust. First question..can I remove the existing paint on the sides without damaging the galvanisation ? 2nd I have the brake lever but no other sections...any source for parts.? 3rd it's been fitted with a post war trailer hitch....I have a replacement but not the castellated bolts...? Regards Jenkinov
  8. 9There is a triumph 3hw manual and parts manual for which may help you..you can download electronic copies for free at http://www.pdfmotomanual.comI just downloaded them and the 3hw manual shows the handlebar layout and part numbers which I believe are duplicated in the parts book. Brand names are detailed in the parts list ..I.e amal carbs..Lucas..but the handlebar controls have no brand listed.. I will check my 3sw Jenkinov
  9. Enjoying reading all the stories of surviving driving with poor lights....when I bought my willy jeep near Bournemouth I decided to drive it home to north yorkshire..I had planned a stop in Guildford but as its longest run had been 10 miles or so my demands and expectations were too high...we ended up arriving in Guildford late and my jeeps 6v bulbs were so poor I fixed torches both front and rear..the jeep with its dark paint and small rear lights was hardly visible..the torches allowed me to get to my first base but a journey that brings me out in a cold sweat... I use a tail board if travelling late...I live near the country side and try and avoid riding a bike at night ...potholes f which there are many being the main concern Jenkinov
  10. Caught up with Martyn Bratby who clearly has a wealth of knowledge on carbs, his literature suggests the 3sw should have a 120 main jet and a 106 needle Jet ..He also identified my 1AK float chamber may not be the correct match and i need to test if it is vertical when fitted .. Ron , Can i ask what chamber is on your 3sw mine does tend to flood and clearly needs checking... Update to follow Jenkinov
  11. 79x100 thanks for the photos my jet is the brass unit at the bottom of the photo..the diagram showed a 2 part jet but the jets so mucky that we could not see a separation and I assumed it was some wartime one piece jet.. I have found the 150 stamp on the main jet but no visible stamping on the needle jet yet...but I will clean it more and see what I find. I am contacting Ron's contact to try and secure the correct jets.. Jenkinov
  12. Thanks Ron ...I will give him a ring and hopefully get sorted .. The jet is a 150 amal but when it was fitted is any ones guess ..but it may as you suggest have been fitted to get some more fuel in the system .. Jenkinov
  13. my triumph 3sw is fitted with a Amal 75-145 carburettor and a 1AK float chamber , the needle jet is an Amal 150 but has fractured ..I have looked at the Amal website and the 75 carburettor is a discontinued model . Needle jets are listed but these are a different shape and don't go up to 150 . So the Question is does anyone have a 75 150 needle jet The Amal is needle is 4.9cm long has a small hexagonal base 6mm long and 6mm wide a large hexagonal base for 2.4 cm long 8cm wide (3cm total to this point)and then a circular shaft 1.9cm long and 4.5mm wide .total 4.9cm..brass finish Amal 150 .. help greatly appreciated . 14. The Canadians built the harley Davidson under licence ..the harley wlc ...c for Canadian. But I checked and could not find any carrier on any photos like yours.... Jenkinov
  15. Hi my grandfather had a motorbike shop and I saw a similar conversion..basically the 4 bolts would have secured a box onto the frame....much easier than strapping items to the frame... In terms of the carrier it's not triumph ..they had pressed steel carriers prep and early war and then changed to a tubular frame for the 3hw Military carriers tended to allow for the fitting of side spanners ..what is the frames dimensions Jenkinov
  16. Einbeck I will check and confirm the dimensions this weekend. Jenkinov
  17. Dkw geyser have free manuals to download on Dkw dokumente zum download ,quite a few docs to work through it you have no success search online for a free download of a villiers 2e manual...the dkw looks to be very similar and if stuck I would base my oil volumes and lubricants on a similar engine.. Jenkinov
  18. The Vespa and mule variants were carriage only ....the cold war theory was that you would set up in advance of the Soviet army and fire 2 /3 rounds before the t62 and bmp returned fire and you were toast ...british had a rapid deployment unit that was deployed by hercules in front of the tank wave ...with milans.. I am sure they would have liked the vespa.... jenkinov
  19. These was one on e bay a few years ago....I did feel quite inspired to bid...mods v rockers......mods might have an advantage...... Jenkinov

  21. The royal logistic Corp retains the b record cards for 210.000 vehicles used by the british army ..it's possible as these were government sourced vehicles a record exists ....so best guess is to start at the royal logistics corps and see if they can help . jenkinov

First question is do you have the originals.....if so check with local motor factors ..the better ones will refurbish them ..or send them to a specialist ...villiers services are very reasonable Jenkinov
  23. I would recommend the high output 6v battery ...my jeep is much more confident when starting... Regards Jenkinov
  24. Hi ..I have just seen a advert for an original Triumph 3sw Primary chain case cover on e bay ..both outer and inner item no 111591403597 outer Item no 111591411213 inner original so whether they would provide the holy grail of a leak free bike is a different issue .. Good luck Jenkinov
  25. Carruthers. I have a triumph 3sw from contract c7162.....I keep finding items from this contract I recently acquired a spare engine ....and then found a further one which I now regret not buying...a friend has a triumph with a 500cc engine...we have identified the frame is from c7162 but it was 're engined after the war and go engine a pretty civilian paint job.
