4. Great restoration..enjoying the progress reports
5. Your restoration is coming along really well..looks great.I was interested. To see that you were fitting a blackout light and checked original photos which frequently showed the fleas with blackout fittings..how do you intend to mark the bike up.. Jenkinov
6. Whilst I can't read it the letters on the Speedo appear to be modern arabic..so is read left To right and is in common use in ,,..........Egypt ... Jenkinov
7. On another point the petrol tank looks as if its the earlier 3SW model . I believe this was used on a few HWs and then they moved to the version with the cut away corner . If you look at the photo in the factory that Ron posted you will note that the Triumph Badge is mounted on the top of the tank. I note you have cleaned the tank , So you should have visible 2 holes , which are the mounting point for the badge . Jenkinov

9. I have had some fun , fighting to get to my 3SW and examining the stamps and included photos new and old Firstly I examined the TEC7 41 on the seat post and the 4 is a good match so I feel confident the frame was July 1941 So based on the dates I have produced after the Coventry Blitz in Warwick . The frame Number has the original TL . but has been re stamped , Triumph number 1s and 7s are quite distinctive and the stamping does not seem to match , we can see from the engine case that numbers have been altered , I have enclosed photos of my 3SW frame and the field stand lugs and clips ..again there is no immediate match , but i accept these mountings have often been removed I think the red herring is the Contract 7162 casing , My gut feel is we have a 3HW frame ,forks and engine ..At some point the engine casing has been damaged and the 3SW casing has been fitted The gearbox ..is all genuine but the number again appears to late for a 3sw.. 3HW...but re stamped . Jenkinov
10. Here are some additional photos that Andy Bike sent in of the Frame and Gearbox ..Its Light So i can compare the photos with my own frame ....Comment to follow Jenkinov
11. It's late so I will compare stamps when I get a chance tomorrow. But the engine case is definitely contract 7162 .the same contract as my triumph 3sw...if you look at the number to the left you can see a 3..I believe the obliterated character is a S ..so I believe the casing ,......if not the bottom end of the engine is from a 3sw.... The TEC 7 looks ok..but oddly the 41 looks slightly smaller ..I think that's a restamp..but my initial thought is wartime.. The frame number is clearly a restamp..the question which I can't answer immediately is if it's war time...the aspect i would highlight is that the triumph factory was destroyed mid contract 7162 in the Coventry blitz and production was moved to the temporary factory at cape warwick...the first HWs weren't produced until Nov 41.... there may be other clues on the frame but we need to explore if it's a -3sw frame ? The field stand mount was welded on the 3sw..often mounts have been removed but the scars on the frame are the clue..can you take a photo of the tube framing on the left hand side of the bike that runs from the seat post to The rear wheel ? The bikes from contract 7162 mostly appear to have been issued to home based units . I have a complete bike plus an spare engine....a good friend has a 7162 frame fitted with a 5s engine ..there'sa complete bike in norway and I saw a 7162 engine advertised recently in Hungary .. Suggest we look for the field stand mount as the next stage... Jenkinov
12. Hi , The BBC peoples war archive has an account by a vehicle mechanic which refers to waterproofing I have put an extract below .......................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Army Vehicle Mechanic Part Three - Operation Overlord Part Three It was then to move to Westcliffe-on-Sea where we took over an empty house on the seafront where we met up with other units and their vehicles. The whole front was lined with vehicles and we set about waterproofing them. This was to enable them to wade in 4-5 feet of water if need be. Once our own vehicles were completed it was to work on a variety of vehicles. We didn't know when they would be required but we knew something big was to happen. Then news was broken that the invasion of France was imminent and on June 6th it happened. Every available ship, piece of equipment and men from a whole series of ports along the south coast of England were on the move. It was not only British troops but American and Canadian troops with their ships and transport including tanks and armoured vehicles. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................... I have a ww2 Willys Jeep and the Handbook gives instructions on waterproofing jeeps , Its Quite basic and you would be able to complete it on the side of the road if supplied with the materials ,With soft skins it was relatively straight forward ..but with Tanks and armoured vehicles the process was much more complex .. Trust the extract helps Jenkinov
13. Hi Andy ..Could you send some photos of the bike and the Frame number plus engine numbers and we will see what we can identify ..Nice to hear you found some original paint again photos would be nice , Jenkinov
14. Full Engine on E Bay at the moment ,,Triumph Pre War 3HW 350cc Single Cylinder Pre Unit Item no 142709302142 Might be worth a look ..On buy it now or best offer so possibly worth a chat with the seller , Hope it helps Jenkinov
15. Just checked in British forces motor cycles and the engine number you have it prefixed by 3HW 55789 could be from contract S2956 ..being triumph this number should be stamped into the engine...you should also have a small arrow or upside down V with a number under it e.g. 68 or 88 If the engine is attributable to contract S2956 that was a run of 4000 engines from Dec 43 to June 44.the frame number to be from the same batch should be between TL41418. And TL46417, Jenkinov
16. Beautiful bike ..A triumph 350 ohv...but both the engine and frame numbers appear incorrect..Triumph stamped their wartime bikes heavily..........under the seat on the post you should have the frames year and month eg.TE0844 you may also find a frame number stamped on the post supporting the handlebars....the engine is likely to have a number including 3HW and near this a contract number prefixed by C... If you get photos of the numbers we should be able to help you Jenkinov
17. I have been offered a 17 pounder gun sight ..it has no leather protective storage case which I would have expected but is in reasonable condition ...Are these rare or common ...what is a reasonable price to pay.... Jenkinov
18. I am looking for a genuine Triumph 3sw petrol tank to assist in a restoration. Please note the triumph 3hw tank has a corner cut to accommodate an air filter pipe and whilst these are more common I would prefer the correct triumph 3s tank... I am also interested in a triumph 3sw carb..please ring Chris Jenkins on 07904 837228.
19. The value of the helmets will be influenced by a few factors 1 type ..you have zuckerman helmets these are the high domed model with laces ..these were the first issued to fire watchers. Factories Tec and could be purchased privately ...the markings will raise the price..fg. .fire guard...a ambulance.. And the linings and straps..but these are the lowest value .2 markings ...the fire helmets look interesting..any chance of a close up...the.colouring looks post war but they may appeal to 2 groups of collectors 3 The standard helmets seem to be civilian defence variants..black.white with letters denoting the wearers role..a ambulance.. Brown helmets are generally early to mid war army...green mid to late war. I have lots of rusty helmets I collected as a kid ..the steel shells by themselves have low value but add in good liners and straps and you can get 30 to 40 ...regimental markings and history and you can get more.. Jenkinov .
20. I have just traced and purchased a original triumph 3s or 3sw tank from Norway ..My current tank has historically been troublesome and i fancied a second tank so i could have different decals ...Tank is unseen as yet but but i am aware it is in gloss green and I need to remove this so i have been considering options top of the list is soda blasting .....anyone done it ? and if so can it be done on a domestic compressor Another alternative is dipping ......I have read mixed reviews with many US sites indicating it can promote corrosion in seams open to ideas as my previous petrol tank restorations have not been as successful as i hoped Chris ..AKA Jenkinov
21. Can I rephrase the question ..what tent heaters did the British army use in the 80s .. Regards Jenkinov
22. Excellent News I will download one and send it to you early to avoid my usual chase for a space.. Chris.jenkins
23. Thanks Melchy a great link the photo of the unrestored jeep shows many of the features of mine ..most notably the fittings for the rear seat were left but the square covers for the top of the shock absorbers have been removed and flat steel riveted into position ...on the restored version you can see the rails which were just guides for the wheels... I will look for weld marks on the floor where the ammo tubes were fitted .. Thanks Jenkinov
24. Can you post A picture of the switch ..from the dash view and a second for the connectors ... Also can I clarify if you are on 6v or 12v Jenkinov Thanks Jenkinov
25. I have 2 british army arctic tents from the mid 80s with A frame posts .. I use the tents at shows and they seem to be quite popular no doubt because of their warmth if you have both the outer canvas and inner liner in use ....

They are fitted.with a large side vent for a heater or cooker ....I had always aimed to pick one up but in my 14 years at shows I am not aware of having seen a military cooker.or heater for the tent ...

At one show I was told I was.looking for a donut shaped heater that was diesel fuelled ...?

So may I ask the forum has anyone got the.correct heater or cooker and would a photo be possible.

Thanks

Jenkinov
