  1. I was at the National Motorcycle museum in Birmingham wed last week and thry got out the triumph 3hw to allow filming so I managed to get a series of close up shots which I will post this evening ...Always interesting to compare the bikes .. Whqat was interesting was that none of ther Military bikes survived the fire ..So the current collection have all been purchased from the market .. Jenkinov
  2. Ron ,,Thanks for the update .its great to see a full rebuild blow by blow ,,,The front suspension on the bike looked fairly complete was it not practical to re use the old star washers ? ..and are you confident the damper knobs fitted where not the original ones ,,..................interested as I tend to re use parts fitted parts . Jenkinov
  3. Ron /WDBikemad thanks for your suggestions ..I will start in the UK with your new suggestions and revert to India if all else fails Jenkinov
  4. Ron ..Tried all the suppliers you listed but without success ..Out of stock and no real lead time for replacements... Any other sources gratefully recieved Jenkinov
  5. Because Jeeps are so Thirsty I always ensure that my Jerrycan has fuel in it (also stops corrosion) ..However i booked onto the Chunnel and was advised that 10L was the maximum I could carry ..I asked if that meant they wanted a half full jerry can ........So half fuel of fumes but as it became clear the helpline staff did not understand what a Jerrycan was ..I soon gave up When I arrived at the terminal ..I was asked the content of the Jerrycan and because it was half full was asked to decant what i could into the fuel tan ...(All of it thanks to an idea it might go wrong and they filled the jerrycan with water and returned it to me with a supply of explosive stickers to put on the jeep ...I was then escorted onto the train ..it was very impressive ............... On the ferry on the way back ...No issues at all ................... I always use to keep 20L of fuel but since ethenol was added it simply goes of to Quickly ...I have quite a few half tins with gone off petrol a handy but expensive source of washing petrol ... I would advise to keep a thin wash in the tanks to stop rust but storage of fuel for more than 6 months can be a costly waste .. Jenkinov
  6. Vulture .....The Jeep is on the road,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and I am keen to get the bike on the road . Had it not been for the petrol tank The Bike would have been roadworthy months ago but I think we have that problem in hand ... I want the bike at a few shows this year ... Jenkinov
  7. Ron & WD BikeMad Thanks for the photos and info ..I will try and order the gear indicator and tool box knob tomorrow .. Jenkinov

Jenkinov
  9. Ron thanks for the photos ....I use nitromors regularly and have used both wire brushes and sand devices but have always felt the wire brushes are quite aggressive ....do you just use wire brushes....... I see you have filled the front bumber plate holes ..the photo you showed of the wd L had number plates in place ? ...Were these removed by the army do you remove them on safety grounds ... great to see a restoration in process ............inspires me to tacle my front mudguard ............ Jenkinov
  10. Hi ..whilst it is painted as a germn bike i believe the bike is a Ural- M-72,..........if you type ural into e bay there are 2 other motorcycle combinations for sale ...the Ural was a copy of the ww2 german combinations so bears a strong resemblance the bikes were in production for an extended period and there were regular ,modifications so a 1955 ural will be slightly different to a 1960 model .... The Hungarians also produced a version ...DNEPR.... but i believe the bike is a ural based on the shape of the rocker cover ... Jenkinov
  11. Ron ..Thanks for the photos and I am looking forward to your thread on restoring the bike ..I am pleased that you have found an original paint sample to help with the restoration ......does the headlamp have the remains of the original paint as well ? Jenkinov
  12. Just found the following link http://www.icenicam.ukfsn.org/direct.html follow the page down to clutch recorking .......details of individual offerin to recork a clutch plate at £9 per plate.... Jenkinov
  13. my villiers consort has a cork clutch and has recently failed ....I contacted villiers services http://www.villiersservices.co.uk/ and to recork the clutch was £9 if they did it or 35p a segment if you bought the cork ... I appreciate this is for villiers engines but it gives you a current price cost......... Jenkinov
  14. The Guy GS is a truck ............the vehicle appears complete excepting the rear cargo body is missing ,,Considering its been stood in the open for 20 plus years the metalwork is suprisingly good ,,,it still has the faint remains of numbers on the bonnet Jenkinov
  15. I think i meant to type rotting Karrier k6...oops Jenkinov
  16. In the local village there is a farmers field containing a number of rusting relics .........one of these i believe is a Karrier K6 ..but I am not sure .. I have never seen a restored Karrier so would be interested in any info you can supply Regards Jenkinov PS he also has a Guy GS ....
  17. Thought an update was appropriate on the petrol tank ...The kurust was very succesfull but there were still a few bits of active rust ...I used the nice weather this weekend to get the tank off and re visit the liner and rust issue ..I had basically ran the tank dry whilst running the engine so no real issue in draining the tank .. I went back to basics on the cleaning and flushed the tank with water and then added 8 glass marbles a few litres of water and started turning the tank gentl ...every 10 minutes I drained the tank counted the marbles ...refilled and added the marcles and water ... Must admit that I was suprised at the level of debris the Marbles dislodged ..when i empied it I used an empty light coloured plastic bucket and each discharge produced a nit of floating debris (the old tank lining) a small collection of rust/metal debris that sat at the bottom of the bucket. The bike has been running fine so I.. was suprised at just how much debris the Marbles were knocking of the inner wall of the tank 5 or 6 washes I was happy with the lining and left the tank to dry ..in the sun Next day I added the kurust and repeatedly turned the tank to give it a good coating ... After draining the excess I left the tank 2 days to dry with the cap off and taps etc removed .. Tank is a nice black colour inside ...this weekend I will rinse it with some old fuel to remove any excess kurust and then recharge the petrol tank with Fuel. The tank was a real state inside when I got it and I envisage i will need to keep an eye on it ..but So far so good Jenkinov
  18. Jimhull...I am also interested in tracing ant history on my bike and will shortly be posting the request and £25 charge to the Royal logistic corps B vehicle history card archive ...I would suggest sending as much info in a clear format to assist them in identifying if records exist for your bike ...Frame No engine no contract no .. Good luck ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Link below http://www.army.mod.uk/rlc/history/17719.aspx RLC Museum B Vehicle History Card Archive The RLC Museum holds the Army B Vehicle History cards previously held by the Museum of Army Transport. These cards can help trace the history of individual Army soft-skin vehicles that were in service with the British Army from the early 1940s. The RLC Museum offers owners of B Vehicles the opportunity to obtain a scanned copy of the vehicle history card for their vehicle. How to obtain a copy of your vehicle history card In order to obtain a scanned copy of a vehicle history card you will need to provide THE RLC Museum with your vehicle's equipment registration number (ERM). If you only have the vehicle make and chassis number it may still be possible to find a card for your vehicle. Any other data such as the contract number and year of manufacture may also be helpful in searching for a vehicle's card. There is a non-refundable research fee for this service. For the research of one vehicle, there is a charge of £25 (£15 for members of the Friends of The RLC Museum) and £15 for any additional vehicles accompanying your enquiry. Cheques must be made payable to 'The RLC Museum Trust Fund'. Cheques together with your vehicle's details should be sent to: B Vehicle Records, The Royal Logistic Corps Museum, The Princess Royal Barracks, Blackdown Road, Deepcut, Camberley, Surrey, GU16 6RW Please note: The RLC Museum does not hold records for Army vehicles which entered service after 1989. The RLC Museum holds approximately 170,000 B vehicle history cards. This by no means equates to a card for each soft skinned vehicle that entered service with the Army from the early 1940s to the late 1980s. Of the cards held by the RLC Museum the vast majority relate to vehicles in service in the mid 1960s and entering service up to the late 1980s. It is therefore possible that no card exists for your vehicle. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Jenkinov
  19. .....Is it possible the bike may contain an example of the original color ...When I was selecting a colour match for my jeep I obtained a paint chip from the rear of the dash ..whilst the vehicle had been repainted on a number of occasions this area had never been touched ..this colour was again seen when i lifted the some access pannels .............Is there any paintwork on your bike between washers bolts panels /in the toolbox etc which could help ? Jenkinov
  20. be careful ...if you get grease on the carpet it might be you sleeping in the garage .... Jenkinov
  21. I fully expect that Rons new Royal Enfield WD L is the genuine article ....And as such is the second on the UKs register of machines . My comments on faked machines was driven by a current advert on E bay where a vehicle is advertised as a 1942 Willys MB when infact it is a post war M38 ....not sure on current vehicle values but a Willys MB is likely to be worth substantially more than an M38 and I am always angered by such blatant mis representation. ... I am a petrol head at heart and am happy with any military machine being restored and composites being built ....I just prefer honesty when they are sold Jenkinov
  22. Must admit that I am constantly suprised at the number of faked ww2 bikes and vehicles that appear in adverts ..I can fully understand not being able to afford a bike and making one up from parts ..but i would like to see the bike or vehicle sold as a copy or replica ;;I appreciate it gets complicated when you have an original engine in a say post war frame but in that case all we need is honesty .. But as always in life its a case of buyer beware ............... So if that one is a copy ....its still just 2 certified originals of the Royal Enfield WD L... Has it arrived yet .....& if so do you need to change your list of owned vehicles to 20 bikes Jenkinov
  23. Ron 2 you tube links to inspire your restoration must admit ...lovely sound to the engine as it picks up speed... Jenkinov
  24. Excellent news ..having seen the quality of restoration on your existing bikes I know its gone to a great collection .. Please keep us updated with photos and possibly a thread on its restoration Jenkinov
  25. The Bike appears to have sold ..link leads to following text ................................................................................ This advert has now been removed through sale or otherwise ................................................................................ does any one know who got it ..? Jenkinov
