show report R.A.F. Shawbury Family Day, 30.07.2010

Hi folks. Just got back from this event I have supported for three years now, all for good causes. This year I set up my signals display in the Landi and 9x9, and ended up having to give talks on Clansman kit to cadets! Weather turned out wet but could have been worse, but the line up of helicopters and hanger displays made it a great day. Just a few pics. Andy.

Browning .50 Calibre Deacs..... what ya think?
airportable replied to Wolfy's topic in Weapons/Accessories
Hi, I have been very lucky this year and picked one up at a very good price with a M63 AA mount. I think you will find the gun weighs in at 84LB. I am quite fit but not of a strong build. I can just lift the gun in a straight easy lift and carry it. I can also drop it into the mount whitch is not too bad, lining up one mount pin can be a pain. But to lift the gun more than waist high I could not do and anyway ALLWAYS get help. If I was going to buy one I would check the action worked smooth, and like any collectable the overall condition of the patina of the gun, and are all the 'bits' still on the gun. Markings, sadly they had been mostly removed from mine when it was refurbished at the Rock Island Armories and their own ser. no. etc. added, but that is interesting history in its self. (I have a friend in the trade who informs me this is common). Make sure you have a deact. cert with it. (see other new thread on subject). I had none with mine but now have, took it nowhere till I had, the RAF police wanted to see it at a event, not sure what would have happened if I had not. Hope of some help, Andy. -

Hi Mark. Sorry to say I have no idea how to scan and post info! I have a book that contains most of the clansman kit. Two pages cover this unit. If you would like to PM me, I can send you a copy in the post. Looks like this (DBS) is used in conjunction with a Drivers box (DB) Quote. 15. In a turreted vehicle where the connections through the rotary base junction (RBJ) are limited to 5 wires, the DB is connected through the RBJ to a DBS. 16. The DBS can be used only in conjunction with a DB; together they providesome of the facilities of a CB-2. 17. The DBS is fitted with a lamp which lights when the selector is switched to I or IA. End quote. Page two instructs how to use the two boxes. Hope this helps. Andy.

Real great kit Mark. Light weight folding table, woolly gloves, bungies, camo poles and tops, compass with free T shirt, 85ptn waterproof top, coms cables, ancillary bag of bits including 'Bob Marley' antenna and mount for 344 radio (great find), Turf unit and plate for 321 radio, and a ammo box tray for a M63 AA mount, empty cart. cases and free link for the .50cal. The little slot in box for a DMU, earth straps for radio's, cups of tea and chips. Best buy, the table. Made our pitch very civilized so we could cook standing up and a firm base so the beer did not fall over. Andy.

airportable replied to tinweasle's topic in British Vehicles
Hi Shaun. Is your Landi a 24v or 12v? Never seen or heard of any radio kit fitted in that spot (all a bit big for that) I have seen a couple of Airportable's with SLR mounts there but with different brackets under the mount itself. This pic. is the set up in mine 24v. and the SLR fits a treat. A pic. with a bit more of the bulk top between the seats may help folks to help you. Andy. -

Hi, that sound about right, bronze green 109. Still pouring over my pics of the re-enactors, wish I was 18 again and I would love to live in my foxhole for the week (but sadly not forgetting why men were their in the first place, what ever nation) A few more pics. -
i may very well be stupid
airportable replied to c101 comando's question in I may be stupid, but......
Hi Tony I'm with you, paid £3 for a local event near me and ended up with my .50cal on a M63 mount for a price that has left folks jibbering, all because not many M.V. there, and loads of attractions all weekend for the Joe public and 'us' in a fantastic setting.Andy. -

I'm with you timbo. I went so I have seen the event once and very glad I did. May go again we will see.On another note this part of the world I live in, none profit, for us, free events have gone through lack of support much to my dismay. Because of the display myself and mates are now happy to go to events where we may be the only military and have a great time and loads of interest from Joe public. A few weeks ago we did a event where on the Sunday three of us were there and we had about three acres to display in! Any one in the Midlands got 100 plus acres we could use for free?
