The Florence Cemetery truly shows the participation of all the Commonwealth (and even of some allies, there is a Norwegian and some Yugoslavian graves, too) to the war effort. Britons, South Afrikans, Canadians, Indians (Pakistani, Indians, Sikhs...), Gurkhas, Australians and Kiwis, I surely forgot someone. A field is dedicated to the fallen from the Indian subcontinent and I was attracted by a group of graves of seventeen years old fallen. Their census records may have been approximate, but surely they have been sent to war very young.

Saturday I visited the Florence War Cemetery. If you have any relative or friend buried there and would like a picture of the headstone or a flower ont their grave just let me know. Andrea

I don't know about procedures at the time, but there must have been a coroner's inquest and/or, I don't know if these incidents were dealt by the Police or Army, an Army/Police incident report. I'd try to find what kind of report/inquest was the SOP at the time, then under the Freedom of Information act I'd ask to see the file. Surely you'll find a description of the vehicle with its army reg, and with a bit of luck some pictures. Andrea

Actually I wouldn't make a completely new "fantasy vehicle" but I'd just give the "legal" *wink* *wink* identity to a legitimate one. I'd keep the numbered part of the unregistrable chassis as a proof... The bodies aren't so different, they are GS (equivalent) ones, just the medical corps is closer to a civilian version than the other one, since it was used for support to civil defense, hence 12V, civilian lights and so on. I have a slight philosophical problem. Here in The Nanny Bananian Republic Of Italy, to re-register a vehicle is nearly impossible. I have a couple of good ex-mil Fiat AR59 whose history is known but are unregistered, while I have a third one of unknown origin but registered and MOT-ed. I'd like to restore the Medical Corps one (after all I am a reserve medical officer and I would find funny to wear my ranks, even if with an older uniform) and use it in shows, but it's an impossible task to register it. Would it be an unforgivable sin to perform a chassis swap and keep all the historical ex-mil one bar the chassis, coming from the registered foundling? Here infact the car's paperwork is connected to the chassis number and, from a legal point of view, the chassis "IS" the car. I'd like to know your opinion because I wouldn't like to have then a car considered a "Walt", after all the chassises (is this the correct plural?) are the same and interchangeable. Andrea

With that looooooong bonnet you need a spotter in front of the truck to manoeuvre close to obstacles... ...on second thougt, you don't need it, you simply run over the obstacle. Andrea

I usually give the scammers telephone and fax of the local Communications Police branch advising them to ask for Mr "Direttore Capo e Minchia" that may mean nothing to you, but in Southern Italian dialect sounds something like "the boss is a dickhead"... It's a well known trick to artificially increase your feedback. Simply put for sale lots of Jpegs and screen background @ 0.99neuros or pence. Then I buy your picture and you buy mine. There is no need to actually pay them, just record it as sold, eblag gets a fee getting close to nil, but both me and you will have impressive feedback that will comeuseful once we will start to sell nonexisting iphones... Try to search "feedback" on ebay then sort by ascending price and see what items you'll get. The fact that it's a war truck picture is just a mere coincidence. Andrea

Same in Italy, although you'll be fined only if you won't wear it at a roadside (esp motorway) stop or breakdown/accident. However, given the negligible cost it's something worth having regardless of the requirements. Andrea

Indeed the bumper and the lack of hitch holes on it look strange, as the lights that are definitely civy. If you add the deluxe bonnet, the hole in the grille, the Series III door hinges and the mudflaps... I do not want to be picky on that particular car, just to see if my rivet counting skills are improving 8-) Andrea

There is a document box with all the receipts and papers for all the vehicles starting from when I got my first moped... well I don't want to remember how many years ago... It's a form of collectionism and, given that the Govts can change rules at their will, even retrospectively (see what is happening with your road tax), I prefer to have my backside covered... andrea

Thus, the Italian Navy had radar technology available since the beginning of the war, but it was so secret it was never adopted and our ships went blindly toward destruction in the battle of Cape Matapan... Problem in continental n-Europe for all the Historic Vehicle movement, regardless of Civilian or Military, are the increasing limits on circulation imposed by the n-Eurocrats, thinking that even some Citroen Slugs (2CV) will eventually destroy the earth... (while celebrating the opening of new airports). Think that in many Italian cities you may ride a new 1200 cc BMW motorbike but not a old Velosolex sipping 1 litre for nearly 100 kms.... Andrea
