  1. Allright, now I finally found the correct English term for the TestaCalda (literally warm head) engine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_bulb_engine Andrea
  2. AAAAhhhh, now I see it was a personal reference.... I do agree, however that if an engine needs ether to start (old Transit apart, of course) there is something wrong and must be rectified. I live in a farm where one of the tractors can be started only with ether, but since is attached to a very specialised equipment and it's used twice a month it would be non cost-effective to overhaul the engine... Andrea
  3. How much are you expecting for the Iltis? Andrea
  4. The actual spelling is Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino, but if the FIAT man was drunk this may explain the misspelling 8-) 8-) 8-). Yes, the Pavesi Tolotti was incorporated as virtually all the motor prodution in Italy in FIAT. About the semi diesel tractor, maybe you are referring to warm head engines? Andrea
  5. Could you please explain a poor furriner what does this mean? Andrea
  6. I didn't serve in UK, I am a Captain (awaiting to become a Major in a few months' time) of the Italian Army MC Reserve. As a Doctor I studied and worked in London for some time. Although Living in Holborn I went frequently to Chelsea, passing in front of the Lister Hospital, then the barracks, to visit the Royal Hospital and the Army museum. I became friend of a Pensioner who served in Italy, he could describe every single mile of the roads he took to reach Milan.... Andrea
  7. SirHC is right, unfortunately due to the cowboy tendency of our US allies to perform spectacular "blue on blue" acts the chevron seem not to work very well. Funny is that Tsahal uses the chevron pointing up/down/right/left to indicate the company a vehicle belongs to. Andrea
  8. When I overhauled the brakes of the Rover8 I had the assistance of a 10yo cub scout. She was allowed to drive the Land in a field after completing the work. Perfect driving, and it was her first time at the wheel, with much shame for her father who managed to stall the engine thrice.... Andrea
  9. Battersea Power Station.... How I miss that sight. Andrea
  10. So.... hasn't been any further development on this topic or it has been lost in the cyberattack? As soon as the Mk8 (or a Fiat Campagnola if I can convince some of my old bosses) is ready for show I am coming with a few Scout ropes... 8-) Andrea
  11. ISTR that there was a yellowish chemical reacting paint as the background for the roundel that should have changed colour in the presence f poison gas. Andrea
  12. I suppose it all depends on the show site and local dispositions. But common sense tells me that open fires and vehicles don't mix very well. Military stoves may be acceptable, again according to the health and safety ar$e coverers around.... Andrea
  13. Of course we have to tell our soldiers that using a sacred book as a target at the firing range is a no-no, but destruction of one of our places of worship is clearly acceptable... I may be stupid but.... Andrea
  14. I hope the chapel was a listed building... If not I would alert British Heritage Andrea
  15. Actually they seem to come from an Asian artist:
  16. You forgot that also private couriers can loose some valuable items such CDs containing personal data of a few millions of Britons... Andrea
  17. Given the fleet that served at Dunkirk, any pre war vessel would be eligible... 8-) Andrea
  18. Another picture. This was taken before any attempt to restoration
  19. Plain Mk8 GS ex BAOR awaiting some decent Deep Bronze Green paint. Andrea
  20. A picture of the "making of" some movie about WWI? Andrea
  21. I posted a few notes on the display of the Red Cross on the forum some months ago. Basically the display of the Red Cross on a HMV is a matter of the Government and not of the National Red Cross Society and, as long as the display is limited to participation in historic events and not everyday driving (I have two sets of doors for my Land Rover, one with the Red Cross to allow me to do my Sunday ride), there should be no problems. I'll dig for the relevant posting, maybe a bit of rewriting would be nice to make it into FAQs. Andrea
  22. When at first I saw an empty directory this weekend I was really sorry. To paraphrase a motto "the forum hasn't died, just gone hell to regroup." A big thank you to our admins. Andrea
  23. As long as it's 6volts (and presuming it works) I'd be delighted to have it. PM me for beer tokens needed 8-) Andrea
  24. Here you can find almost everything about Scramblers. Please note the spares catalogue! http://www.ducatiscrambler.com Andrea
  25. I wish they could fit to my Ducati Scrambler.... Andrea
