  1. The above is only one better than Category 9 - buy up scores of vehicles, store them in a yard or field with the intension of restoring them, but then leave them to rot and then die, and have the executors sell the rusting hulks off by public auction at knock down prices, watched by enthusiasts with tears in their eyes at the thought that some real treasures have ended up like that. After all we a guardians of our history and not the owners! I'm sure that rightits really sad  to see such a "would be" great collection wasting away. I think its the chase, the spending of money and then "well Ive got" ...........
  2. As a Dodge owner myself this collection of pics deserves a VERY BIG THANKYOU........
  3. Hi, does anybody have an idea why the Dodge main tarp seems to be rather short on the sides in a couple of pictures ?
  4. I have seen most of them, BUT have you considered why some of the happen, for example "arriving late leaving early" There could be a valid point why that has happened, I'm sure that most of us have had an unplanned breakdown en-route to a show but made the effort to get there,if not a little late. Towing vehicles, again you have to consider the distance,it just may be more practical to do that if its a short show. Motorhome, I use one for War & Peace I admit. Its about 160 mile to the show, Ive driven Gmc,Dodge and Jeep there in the past, the last time driving them there was a 14 hr journey........so now we still make the EFFORT but trailer or lorry everything down there. We dont try and park in the "green area" we understand how important for some people to poorly hide all thier modern gear under plastic......we are just proud to say we made the effort. We park in the "mish mash" field, yes our motorhomes are there but so are the 70+ year old vehicles. Our vehicles are clean and I think look pretty good, ok they are not marked up "101 or 82" and do not have every option Soldier of Fortune sell hung on them !!!!!! BUT WE MAKE THE EFFORT, there are all sorts of reasons people take vehicles to show's, have you asked them.....whats your's ???
  5. I have a "44" Wc 51 and encounted more or less the same type of problems on mine.It really missed coming off of a round about I did almost everthing you did, and then replaced the Carter Carb with a new one. It totally transformed the vehicle, there is no more misfire and I would say much more poke........ Not saying its the same problem as you but that sorted mine. Friend of mine has a VC3 popping back through carb also, after a number of "old boys" looked at it, whith the aid of a blanket over my head and distributor I found the base plate loose and sparking..... Two similar problems, two totally different outcomes........
  6. I thought IWM stood for Imperial WAR museum, NOT Imperial AIRCRAFT museum,,,,,they all played their part
  7. Thank you Baz48, Yes I am aware of that site. BUT the site I was looking at was a military parts supplier, like, BUT NOT Dalla auto parts, I'm sure it was a French site I just cant find it again......grrrrrrr Thanks for your input though.
  8. Thank you Olaf, but that was not the thread I was talking about, it was much more recent. There was no mention of the rect mirror in that thread its just that I did some searthing on web and found a supplier (French) I think of the mirror I want.......BUT I did not save the web site and now am unable to find it again. The mirror's are post war,I would think maybe fitted in Norway,or Holland,France.
  9. Welcome back Jack, staying or just passing through ? :-):-) Mmm prices, Im not sure that vehicles make the price they are advertised at to be honest. Friend of mine been looking for a Gmc for a while, I had no idea some of the prices being asked by people over the channel....really eye watering, however most of them pop up every month still for sale. He found one in the end, needs some work and maybe more than we 1st thought, but thats a learning curve. I mentioned in another thread about jeep prices or at least the lack of printed jeep prices in a certain mag........when this become accepted and aloud then the prices seemed to go up. Also i think some people are raising the bar with regard restorations, there are some simply stunning resto's out there and I'm not just talking about jeeps. I think, the "old guard" are giving way to a generation of people that truly have respect for their vehicles, rather than using the old phrase,"thats patina that is" when in reality its down to people being down right lazy, or maybe short of funds. Now I have very little or no interest in post war vehicles (I'm not saying there is anything wrong with them) they just dont do it for me. But I have learnt this in the last 10 years and although its not definitive its works as guide. Some post war vehicle owners, have a passing affiar with a vehicle, where as most WW2 vehicle owners have a life time love of their's. Which may just account why some people assume vehicles are priceless (bit like 44 gmc 353) eh Jack. Before I get shot........as i said its NOT the rule but its what I have noticed, Tin hat on.
  10. Good evening, a short time ago there was a question re mirrors on here. Before I replied I did some "searching"........but did not save......grrrrrrrr Now I am looking for the post war rectangular mirror fitted to GMC's and DODGES......I just cant find where I found them Please does anyone know where i might find them. (feeling pretty stupid now) Thanks in advance
  11. Ok so the fact that CMV are having some changes at this level, must indicate they understand just how poor the mag has become over the last few years. Whilst I have every faith that YOU will do your upmost to improve what is a VERY poor value for money product, I am waiting to see if you are ALLOWED to. As stated Windscreen is a "club" publication as such I would have thought that some of the members subs go towards that. Of course I understand there will always some commercial pressure for adverts and I agree with that. My issue was the shear amount of ads in recent CMV. As for correct tech content......well another story as long as there are 2 people talking about 1 vehicle I'm sure there will always be.......well different views. Ive have found even the "bibles" of MV's to be incorrect on some aspects. The last two mags I have that are similar dates CMV Nov 15 issue 174 and Windscreen Oct 15 issue 150 are as follows CMV circa 84 pages contain 23 pages of ads WINDSCREEN circa 100 pages contain 12 pages of ads. It MAY not be so boring IF the ads were from alternative suppliers, but on the whole same old same old...... I'm not trying to pee on any one's fireworks, I'm just saying before eveyone gets too excited lets what you are allowed to do. As I have said before good luck.
  12. Ok, so the comments have not bothered me as such. Im glad you reshaped windscreen it is a great mag now.I never said I would not give CMV a chance, BUT you must admit that CMV has fallen a long way from a few years ago ? Im not saying you cannot turn it around BUT I'm sure you will have a huge amount of pressure to "make it Pay" as such, which was for me one of the sticking points the shear amount of ads. I wish you good luck, but as I have said before " you can polish a tu*d but you cant roll it in glitter. But really good luck.
  13. Is there any reason you cant leave the starter motor and just fit a remote solenoid ?
  14. Well before there is too much back slapping, hand shaking and all round meriment, lets see how it goes. In my eyes this mag has fallen a long way, far too many adds, lean and incorrect reports and all round VERY poor value for money. To be honest, none of that should be a supprise,as it has to be run on a commercial basis. I think the NEW windscreen is a far better read and far better quality mag all round. I stopped my subscription to it when i worked out that the add content was (in the last issue i had) 41%........I already know about Dallas, Cherrished, Jeep parts....etc etc etc..... I noticed a down turn when the mag accepted small adds with POA in the first instance the Jeep section, followed by most other sections. I really hope that it turns a corner as like many others I used to look forward the mag dropping through the door, however Im sure with pressures of today hands will be tied...........
  15. Im afraid most of you are very short of the mark. You are assuming the publication is for our benifit/enjoyment..... Far from it, its there to make money......simple as. Sorry but thats it. Which is why a forum like this is so important....thanks Jack
  16. Reminds of Wickstead at War a few years ago, similar vehicle dived into the lake. Had to be recovered by a near 70 year old Scammel. It just comes down to prep and owner's.
  17. In that case my next port of call would a French dealer, at least their postage is sensible.. I would try "JEEPEST" look at milweb they advertise on there. People seem to rush to buy from the states as though thats the "Holy Mecca" of vehicle parts, yes they do have some nice parts but they are not the only country left with "NOS" parts......truly when people tell me the postage for some parts my eyes water.
  18. These type of funnels have been around for years, I remember using one early 70's delivering parrafin. Normally only needed when fuel has been stored for a long period of time or incorrectly. Still a very usefull piece of kit and thanks for the link.
  19. I thought, although I could be wrong that the mirror heads on the Dodge were the same as Gmc/jeeps which can be purchased in the UK without any problem. The only change I can see is on mine is that there is a rubber surround on the Dodge holding the glass in place.Ive not dealt with Midwest Military BUT the few US people I have had dealing with just sometimes seem to be on another planet with postage costs, its almost as if they dont want to send stuff to us...... I stand to be corrected.
  20. Ive not seen many Dodges with rifle holders, unless it happens to be badged "101 AB 506 PIR"............
  21. I cant help with transport advise but you will need to apply for the NOVA number within 14 days of vehicle arrival in the uk. Check .gov website for details. Once you apply and get your "passcode" its fairly easy. Without NOVA you will NOT be able to register it with the DVLA even after you have had it age dated....... Its not hard just inline form.
  22. Of course people can do what ever they wish with thier vehicles even if they are trying to make their pride and joy more "warey" I too have seen a number of WW2 photo's with this field mod. Remember in occupied France in "44" there were no Tesco fuel stations........
  23. I have used "Fabseal" will good results. Its clear and I have applied with srayer, roller or brush.
  24. Thats a shame, but I guess thats why they have viewing days, shame is most of their auctions are in Holland. Out of interest I wonder what the reply from Withams would be if a similar question was asked. I suppose you can only commment on dealings with them, in my case 100% positive.....
  25. Yes. We found them to be very good when collection time came around, yes it was about 2 weeks after auction, but that was not a problem for us. It took us the best part of the day to load and they helped us when required.
