  1. Yes i noticed that. I've got a "44" GPW and there seemed a lot of things that were not the same as the one there.
  2. As I understood there was No reserve on any lots just a starting price. We were also told that all vehicles that were on the video running/driving, were all using external fuel tank (although not possible to see on all vids) this was due to insurance. No fuel SHOULD have been in main tanks. All batteries were also removed. I may/could be easily lead but thats seems sensible. Hell of a job bump starting the Sherman......
  3. I'm not sure whether the WLF's were good prices or not, although a lot of vehicle for about £ 17k . What do the WLF owners on here think ? What I found astounding was the halftrack.......I'm sure there must have been something special that only a few knew about it....maybe thats the one Patton pi**ed into the Rhine from in 1945. We saw it and to the untrained eye it looked like a lot of other halftracks I have seen....looked after but 106000 euro i just dont see that.
  4. We popped over for a day out. A few brits there (sorry Howard I would have loved to met you) but not many. People were looking at the vehicles BUT my impression was mainly Dutch/Belguim dealers looking at the parts and spares. Auction fever ?..........I'm not sure..... but I am sure that lots of these parts will appear at War&Peace at an "inflated price. People knew just what they where looking at/for and working out their margin........ I'm not moaning, just what i saw .Of course the Sherman wont be a bargain....but how many are these days. Although at the price being banded around it would have been nice to have some internal pictures of it on display.
  5. Sorry people but, as you are talking about Duxford, does anyone know if they are holding their Military vehicle day this year.
  6. Whilst we are all very sad at what happened in France lets look at this in a logical way.......... What would the French do IF THEY were to have something imposed on them they did not like..... THEY would take direct action, the "Champs" in Paris would become grid locked as 100's/1000's of "101 st" Hotchkiss jeeps parked up with the onwners/driver shouting "NON" Can you imagine Whitehall full of Jeeps, Gmc, Halftracks,Landrovers (the list goes on) but you get the idea. Sign as many bits of paper, or online, But signing/talking did not stop our fuel hitting the pound per litre level, HOWEVER a couple of days blocking Calias harbour by a few small fishing boats made the French goverment rethink their plan on fuel prices........ I have a couple of deacts, and would be very sad to loose them, I gather from a few posts on here and on another forum there are some people that will loose vasts amount of money......bit like the stockmarket crash in the 30's I suppose.....
  7. Thank you I was not aware, of that. I understand the need for seatbelts but the law is a bit of a ar*se, car manufactured 23:59 on 31/12/64 no belts, car manufactured 00:01 01/01/65 belts required......:shocked: I know I've made it sound simple.....lol.
  8. Mike, just out of interest how would this work with say, a 1961 Hotchkiss......which would also need an mot.
  9. Good idea, if it aint broke dont try and fix it.
  10. I went to Trucks & Troops a few years ago, great setting, but as I remember nowhere near the scale of W&P in either vehicles or trader's. I cant remember the cost but I do recal having to pay the full amount to enter as if I were going to the musem....which of course is great. I'm sure there are other very good shows around, YWE,Wartime in the Vale, to name just a couple. Will the new owners of W&P take on board any of the comments from this forum, I doubt they will, because as Baz48 says it's commercial venture, there to make money.......and thats why most of us go to work...to make , money......I think;)
  11. War and Peace show means a lot of different things to many many people. I think you need to ask yourself a question what does it mean to you ? Here is part of what it means to me, its a chance to have a week away from outside pressure's, I meet old freinds and make new ones. I get the chance to drive our mv's for a whole week. I pick up bits and piece,s from the stalls ( the amount I save on postage MORE than covers my entrance fee) Do I pretend that I take our vehicles there for the general public.....no I don't, our small group does not have the pleasure of one of the "prime locations" which is allocated to some. For that reason I am comfortable in leaving the show when I am ready. I dont have an issue with what is really quite a small fee for an entire week of entertainment. I don't NEED the toilet or showers but do use them and I still do not understand why when some people are away find the need to sh*t up the walls and on the floor, I can only think those people live like pigs at home. So if a levy is required to clear up after said animals then so be it.
  12. I never have and still don't understand some peoples reluctance to pay a few quid for upto 10 days camping including entrance to a show, If you think £25 is a p*ss take what about stoneleigh £10 for the day.......come on fella's get real. if you aint got the money, I'm sorry, if your just plain tight then shame on you. What really make me laugh is people saying how many vehicle they take, which I assume they own, then moan about a few quid...........
  13. Dandy 2016....great chuckle, for those wanting a lighter read
  14. When I rebuilt my GPW gearbox, I was told by two highly respected restorers NOT to use ANY hypoid in gerabox/tranfer case.I used as instructed SAE110. I'm no expert, so I just do/use as reccommended and I must say that my gearbox is as sweet as a nut.... I'm not sure about diffs, that comes later......
  15. I have not attended this show, however I stayed with "Commander" in Normandy in 2014. I got the impression he was/is very proffesional, meticulas, and an all round "good egg"
  16. Thank you for your answer, I now understand that is some weight......
  17. Out of interest and the fact you are singing the praises of Autohome why are you not with them now ? Not a loaded question just interested.

Thank you Richard, you are on the ball.
  20. I dont think he was trying to be dufficult. I did't read it that he implied you were offering an "illegal service" just that things are not maybe as easy as they used to be.
  21. Hi Steve, I think you will find most of the Jeep dealers will able to supply a reasonable repro one. Gary
  22. I think its a fine line between the two. In all cases the vehicle needs to be safe to drive, my feeling is that SOME not all of those owner's who love that "in service, patina,it tells a story look" really have no idea as to how safe it really is. I really wish I had taken some pictures of a jeep I saw at a local show last week, it was dismal to say the least. Before I get bombed I do stress it is only SOME owner's that need to "look in the mirror"
  23. I dont want to state the obvious but this is an electric motor. Its a natual source of heat even if running efficiently I'm an ex qualified sparks, the amount of problems caused by "tinkering" horrifies me sometimes. Get it some where that a GOOD rewind company can have a look, they will understand the quality of a British motor. Please do not be tempted by the cheap and "nasty" far eastern "snake oil"
  24. Sorry sir....anyways my mum told me i was very lucky cos the school i went to was approved.... :blush:
