  2. First memory of military vehicles was Dukw's on the sea front at Blackpool never had chance to ride in them at that stage they seemed to be rusting away in the sea air. First MV was my Ferret, I saw one on the front of CMV and then went to WP and was hooked. Like a lot of other people I went looking for a Ferret found one one bought it and haven't looked back.

  7. First things first Merry Christmas too all and a Happy New Year as well. As the holidays approach and were all thinking of families and Christmas dinner don't forget that the scum bags see this as a wonderful opportunity to part you from you're hard earned tools and equipment. Last year the farm outbuildings where I store my Ferret were raided by scum bags, they managed to walk away with the vast majority of the gardeners portable tools petrol strimmers, hedge cutters so on and so forth. I know these particular lads work from dawn to dusk and this was a major setback for them having to buy new equipment. Since that day the barn where the equipment is stored has had its security improved. Unfortunately as is the case with many farms the farm has a public write of way running through the farmyard, which for the most part is fine except when the 'dodgy' ones want to view areas that they shouldn't. Which brings me to the reason that I'm writing this its almost that time of year again when the barn was broken into last year. I decided to go up to the farm to start my Ferret up and give it a run round. I had to go into the barn to throw some things into the back of the RB44, whilst I was doing that three lads came into the barn. They didn't see me until they had just entered the barn where upon they made out that they were looking at the RB44. With a couple of ohs and aws that's nice they did an abrupt about face and toddled of back down the road. When I first saw them they weren't looking at the RB they were looking at the brand new snow blower in front of the RB. It might be entirely innocent and I could be reading something into it thats not there but the sudden loss of interest and the quick about face leads me to think something else. The moral of this story lock you're kit up and if you have a lock up and you're leaving you're van on site over Christmas park you're van in front of the doors and make it as difficult as possible for the wasters to get in. Just make it difficult for the buggers
  8. Its at the Rocket site in Doncaster Jacksons?
  9. We all know about ebay but what other auction sites exist of a similar pattern to ebay?

  11. Listening to sparks fly as I'm kicked out of the house by the missus... along with a sore head when the suit case smashes me on the noggin if I even think of asking about a road trip to Dortmund
  12. Some nice Churchill track in Germany bit of a trip to liberate it though
  13. Have vehicle can travel but some b*****d clamped me I see that I've reached the number of the beast postings wise
  14. Would you be meaning people who drive at normal dry weather speeds on an icy road. Seen quite a few doing that I then wonder whats between the two jugs on there heads. Reversing up a hill in a front wheel drive has gotten me out of a few scrapes as well. Carrying a spade also works as well if you need to dig out the car or van
  15. In regards to the choke and starter cables would it be worth dropping them in a cleaning fluid of some sort and then operating them to clean the muck out? Save a few pennies Give it a good wash off as well all that salt will soon spoil the paintwork!
  16. Water isn't free from the tap unless you have managed to dodge paying the bill with you're utility company. If you can sell it onto the yuppy set good on ya they deserve it.
  17. The hand throttle should be mounted just beneath the speedo body on the left hand side. It should look something like this but probably silver by now hope that helps http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NOS-HAND-THROTTLE-CABLE-MILITARY-FERRET-SCOUT-CAR-/120651232474?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Other_Vehicle_Parts_Accessories_ET&hash=item1c175fb4da#ht_518wt_905
  18. If the image comes out it should show the petrol feed from each side of the tank. I have an idea that you're Ferret has a later petrol tank from the MK4 or 5 Ferret as the fuel is collected from the top of the tank. If thats the case I suspect that it has pipes that collect fuel from either side of the tank internally. Thats just a guess on my part. If you set the handle to the middle no fuel will flow so you have a fuel cut off if need be. I've forgotten the name of the petrol tank sender but that tends to be a common fault on Ferrets Champs and the like. Fill the tank up as well it stops condensation rusting the interior of the petrol tank. The inter start box is the same as the one on the Champ the one with the two pin light plug. Look for air leaks as well inlet and exhaust quite a few running problems have been caused by badly fitting exhaust manifolds
  19. Brass thingy ma jig is the change over tap which can be moved to take fuel from either side of the saddle tank. One side is supposedly the reserve side I'll leave you to decide which one its supposed to be its been argued to death before now on other forums. If it hasn't already had a battery cut of switch fitted fit one to the the battery box with the air filter above it (can't remember if it goes on the positive or the negative at the moment). You can also charge the batteries through the inter start slave socket with a trickle charger or charge each battery individually out of the vehicle with two 12v trickle chargers. Another way of charging them is to fit the trickle charger connections permantly to the battery terminals just leaving the plugs showing for easy connecting up (makes life easier the air filter is a b to get off and its full of oil). Mine doesn't splutter and it hasn't got a jolly electronic ignition kit on it check the usual things points, plugs, condensor and then the carb one of the diaphragms in the carb might be U/S
  20. My missus has sorted out a list of some of the filters common to the RB44 All lucas CF308 Oil filter CF522 Fuel filter CA4333 Air filter Diff Oil EP 80/90 Gear oil Engine Oil 10/40 Semi Syth
  21. I've had my Ferret start to flip the back end out going down a hill in the rain when I backed off the accelerator... brown trousers moment narrowly averted. All because I could hear it missing and didn't want to stop on a hilly road live and learn
  22. Quite liked this sorry about putting Christmas stuff up before we are even in December. Verse as sent to me by A Douglas T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE, MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY, WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, IN THIS HOME, DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES, OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT, CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR, IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED, A TRUE BRITISH SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO, OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALISED THE FAMILIES, THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS, WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE, A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM, EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER, HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE, IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT, A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES, AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED, AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, "SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS...." THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL, AND WE BOTH SHIVERED, FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE, ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR, SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE." ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."
  23. The tunnel might not have been sold it may still belong with Railtrack or been passed to the local council or another approved body. A check with the Railtrack, Land Registry or the local council should provide him the answer.
  24. End of another era I remember the previous Ark going to the scrappers.
  25. Good article sets the record straight (not that you haven't already) good intentions and a usable vehicle for the missus as and when needs be.
