Doesn't have to be fuel cells, could be burned in converted engines ! Still pushes out water as a by-product. There are green fuels for diesel and petrol engines, if we (more likely our government) want to do it...

I have doubts over the long term use/life of battery cars. Upfront cost are reducing but what happens later when the battery is done and the manufacturer will not support it. I suspect the cars will get manufacturers support for a given number of years and then take them back for recycling. No older cars for those that can't afford newish ones ! Just consider the nice Tesla (or any battery car) full of lithium batteries in the built-in garage under your bedroom maybe. The batteries overheat and catch fire, the car burns like a firework and takes the house with it, rapidly. You will not put out a battery fire with anything you have at home even if you are right next to it or even in it. Then how easy will they be to insure.... I also believe in various uses of Hydrogen. Many remote locations including islands are ideal for wind or sea generation but cannot export the electricity. They could produce hydrogen and ship it in hydrogen powered ships.. Early days. Iain

Have you thought of owning a light beaver tail truck registered PHG and transport it yourself ? A used recovery truck maybe, not expensive and not too expensive to run, comparatively... Of course you would need an LGV licence etc. May not fit your circumstance but worth a thought. Iain

Just a thought, if you register it as 7500kg, down rate it, you can then be exempt a tacho as long as it registered private and not used commercial. I don't think you would have to alter the vehicle but it would be restricted to the new weight limit. That should be OK for your planned use. How is it MOT exempt ? It will be eligible for historic vehicle free tax as over 40 years old but is post 1960 so should have an MOT unless I'm missing something.

Agreed, Land Rover ones are the best bet and there are comfy versions out there but new, even aftermarket can be expensive. You might come across some used "upgrade" seats if you search around.

No, is the short answer. I have done this a couple of times and had to change them again. The seats have to be low enough that you can sit comfortably without the steering wheel jamming against your legs, it can be that bad really easily. After a while with seats that are a bit too high but seem OK you will get fed up with looking at the top of the wind screen. I am sure others on here will know of seats that work but I would advise taking your time to get the right ones. It can be done and it may mean modifying the seat fixings to lower them that little bit. The perentie are fitted with Siri seats but they had to be modified and seem very good. Iain

Only in my experience,. I'm not an expert, others on here are far more qualified. As far as I am aware the XZL have in effect replaced XL in military use, I suppose if the Fox was still in service it would be fitted with XZL. The XL is probably more biased to off road and seems to wear faster on Tarmac but is a good all round tyre. If it were me and not intending to do big miles I would stick to XL. They are correct for the vehicle and look right. If it's down to driving a lot and road performance then the more modern XZL. In a perfect world a set of XL for show and XZL for driving around. Just like having winter tyres for your car, a tad more expensive though. Iain

If you can get XL at a reasonable price, OK, but if you are not too bothered about being totally original then XZL. They are a very good tyre (tire).

Do they have to be Michelin XL ? Have you looked at Boyce Equipment, they have 11.00 20 Goodyear radials. They are out there, maybe not next door though. Iain

Hi I am led to believe that the Eager Beaver used the same wheel without run-flat inserts. Here is the parts book page with the list of bits for the wheel though sadly there is not an illustration. It shows what could be two types ? And states that it is a "Dunlop HB133 modified". I don't know what the modified refers to maybe someone way more qualified than me could comment. It does show that the wheel is fitted with standard 11-00 x 20 Michelin XL tyres with a "Flap, rust , slip". Considering that these vehicles could motor along on roads at reasonable speeds, not just potter around a yard, I would say the fox would be OK. I hope that helps a bit. Iain

I have the same on my Militants and Eager Beaver (I think the EB has the same rims as the Fox) split rims. In the Militant manual it states to paint the rim nuts red and wheel hub nuts white as standard not just for parade show. Red is to highlight a danger as in think twice if you are taking the wheel off the hub. It would be dangerous with a high volume tyre at reasonable pressure. Its also convention to avoid mistakes when in a rush for example. Iain

Thank you very much for posting, it is of great interest ! My dad did mention Eisenach a number of times and I think it had a great significance to him though I am not sure why. I'll try and match what I have with the locations you have listed. I have found the Pegasus archive a great source in fact so much has come together using the Internet. If only he had had the same access to information when he could have linked up with other survivors. Sadly that generation are few and far between now. It is encouraging that younger generations are interested in the experiences of their relatives ( in my experience).

It would be worth taking a very close look at the wording of the legislation regarding selling or transferring. It likely leaves provision for passing on to licensed dealers (sect. 1 or 5 ) for the purpose of selling or deactivation to current standard or whatever. Chances are many folk would have to go through a dealer to have them "sorted".

Other than the very wealthy investors or collectors of exotica mostly common sense does not really come into it. Its more emotional buying for whatever reason, we want it, if we can afford(within reason), we will buy it.... And why not. If it makes you happy ! Plus there is the conservation of history. Sellers often push it a bit far though.

To ensure things keep on running without a hitch the The Great Repeal act transfers all current EU regulation into UK law. It is afterwards that they will be reviewed and changed as required. The idea is that so much is relative to EU law in the day to day running of the country it is necessary to continue as is and go through the huge amount of regulation at our leasure..... It is going to take a wee while !
