5. Ah, I did wonder in which case I now have his contact details so will bear him in mind if we get any other problems. Thanks for the info. Wych Bearings were really helpful too, and we managed to get the original SKF ones that are no longer made!
6. Cheers for that. Managed to source the exact same same bearings from Wych bearings in Bromsgrove, really helpful guys! Now everything is apart have also found the half shaft bearing is knackered as well so another call required to them should be here today!
7. Swivel housing bearing numbers? Following a run out on Wednesday I discovered my front Axle swivel housing roller bearings to be FBAR. After quick discussion with local bearing company who told me the bearings are no longer available can someone tell me what the correct numbers should be or where would be a good place to get replacements from. Before I waste money and time trying to get some that are not correct Current ones displaying the following numbers can anyone confirm what the replacements should be as although I have found same no.s with Timken bearings they do not stipulate Heavy series as these do? SKF HH AK55200/4 HH24
8. Well after following everyone's advice, a few tubes of grease later and a tree i've just managed to free it off:clap:will put a proper update on later - many thanks for your replies
9. Yes that's right... They were all were sold at auction a while after, we bought it off the chap who bought it from the auction, haven't got a clue where the other one went apparently they managed to get that one going?? - ours however not a hope it was so badly seized - we spent days over there trying to get it to run but then once we got it home it was really quite bad so made the decision to just keep the cab. They had been stood there for about 15 years we think?
10. Here are a couple of my toys to add to this thread... First one is an Ex Wynns Heavy Haulage (Engineering Ltd ) BDW 219B - date built as June 1940 and the earlier army identities as H41336** and 1745785 (photo from when it was with Wynns in its earlier days). No doubt a few of you may have seen it around at rallies. Bought it back in 2007 and have fitted it with a Duramin Cab which came off another Matador I originally bought/rescued out of a farmers field - but that turned out to be too far gone so robbed the cab off it and sold it on. The Duramin Cab was originally made for B&J Davis (Bucknell) by the Duramin Engineering Company and is an absolute perfect fit as I found out when fitting it to the Wynns Matador (Still got the orignal Wynns Cab but it needs so much work and not so good with timber as I am with metal:embarrassed:) The last one is now sat waiting for me to start on it out in the field, but I don't know too much about this one yet. I think its a 1939 built one and as far as I can tell the chassis number is 0853549 so I stand corrected if anyone knows anything else, so far I have only taken the cab and crane off and probably won't start this until next year(ish) now though as the explorer is next:blush:
11. cheers:thumbsup: that gives me loads to go on at least I can see what its meant to be doing!
12. Yep, that's the one.... :cool2: Also yes it does sound like the one you have seen because the docs I got with it list the previous owner as being in Doncaster, also it was in Nottingham before that as I have got both previous names and addresses in some of the docs (ought to write to both to see if they are still around and can give me some info - always the possibility they have passed on and don't want to offend anyone though?) Not meant to be touching it yet, but since war & peace I just couldn't help myself:-D reckon the wife hasn't noticed - YET!, but I did get her driving it on Sunday  probably worth adding this in as well - Its reg is RFO 918, chassis no. 7879, vehicle no. 91 BD 81 and the winch is stamped with 18.06.1953 and I believe its spent some of its life with a fair or a circus? - (don't think the army normally used red, yellow and blue paint)
13. HI IT IS A 6LW AND I WILL TRY THE VIM OVER THE WEEK END... CHEERS MATE:tup::
14. A little smoky and could do with a new paint job! Bloody Garner Engine it's got to go....
15. Cheers for the replies. Right.. I have freed the winch brake drum off, and have removed the bottom cover on the vertical shaft and have found this was full of water:( I have also tried pulling it out with my 5 ton folklift but drum still won't turn..
