  1. Here's one buried tank that made it back to the surface: Tank Cruiser Mark V** A13 Rumour has it, they found another buried A13 Cruiser. But it was not recovered as the museum already had one, and subsequently the site was developed into a housing estate. Eddy, you're going to be busy
  2. Great find! Amazing that this heavy M47 did (and does) not slide down the slope. Impossible to recover, they must have decided to leave it there as a memento. I really like those in-situ battle relics.
  3. Dorking it was, does Brockhamhurst Road ring a bell? Look at my attached pictures (which I only now happened to run across while looking for others). The owner had one Explorer under restoration, those two out back were for spares. Must be the same ones as in 6 x 6's picture.
  4. Thanks, I like the story they are trying to capture on film! At least it is not another yank story. . . Does it really matter whether it is a Hotchkiss M201, Willys MB or Ford GPW with "F" marks on the bolts? It is just a movie prop, isn't it? Hanno
  5. It does and it ended up here: http://www.hill112.com/tank.htm
  6. Of course he's going to do them up one day :-D A little longer and the tanks will have been completely overgrown so no-one will notice them anymore and the owner can enjoy them in silence. Here's another Sherman in France, looking quite abandoned: http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/vatryk/view/329982?page=10 Where's Eddy? Ah, he's already on the ferry . . .
  7. Excellent work! And after the reproduction is finished someone will recognise the bits in their bin under the workbench and come up with the NOS bits. . .
  8. Drive hub, sprocket, idler wheel, tracks, Ford V8 engine, probably gearbox too...
  9. Keith, That is an excellent restauration! Re. Army markings, see the links in my earlier posting and below for some examples. It seems there was variation depending on the period and unit using them. Source: TheSamba.com - pics wanted CCG and U.S. army staff cars !: Source: TForce - picture taken around 1947:
  10. Type out the full German text in a text editor and then copy & paste it in http://translate.google.co.uk/ Then post the rough translation here and we'll help you fine tune it.
  11. "Now, who is taking the piss here?!?!"
  12. Me neither, do not know the background on that one. Just saw your website, here's hoping for a good response. What about adding the Porsche Typ 62 prototype Kübelwagen to your portfolio? That thing would be a hoot to drive!
  13. Mark, Very creative! I'm sure there would be a buyer for such a "folly". How about using your skills to recreate some of the early VWs or Schwimmer prototypes? Your thoughts please Hanno
  14. They were definitely owned by the Iraqi army, see http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?22218 for pictures of Dodge Power Wagons, Land Rovers, Chevrolet CMP gun tractors, M24 Chaffee, Centurion and Churchill tanks, Ferrets, etc. This is no surprise as Iraq was founded by Great Britain in 1920 and Iraq remained a satellite of Britain for the next three decades, with the British retaining military bases and training the Iraqi Army (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_%E2%80%93_United_Kingdom_relations)
  15. Hello Keith, Welcome to this forum and good to hear about a military Beetle being restored to its former glory! Can you share pictures, please? I have an interest in military Beetles because my grandfather was appointed one + driver shortly after WW2 to go and find looted items in Germany (ranging from machinery to an elephant!). Beetles were in the "car, 4x2, saloon" class and they were intended for use by static administrative units. On this forum some information and photos have been posted before. Click on to go to the thread: Hope this helps, Hanno
  16. Adam, I have not see reproductions of your plate but I am sure they can be made up by one of the suppliers of repro data plates. Hanno
  17. David, Thanks for posting this information. Regards, Hanno PS: see http://www.pbase.com/kees_s/image/83674555 and http://www.pbase.com/kees_s/image/83674554 for pictures of the M6 at Overloon.
  18. Adam, You mean this type of plate? From http://www.marcusglenn.com/ Regards, Hanno
  19. Ah yes, of course. Since the F-35B STOVL is on hold they will probably keep flying the Harriers longer.
  20. C'mon, if they are getting too expensive for the military to fly, do you think private organisations can raise the funds to pay for the upkeep of airframes and pilot proficiency?
  21. Here's a Ferret on Cyprus Ferret Ferret Pig Pig And a Canadian M38A1 n'other
  22. Please do not copy e-mail addresses on the forum. Spam bots wil track them and start sending spam. Use a PM to share that kind of information. Thanks, Hanno (moderator on MLU Forum)
  23. Here's a Ford, if you look closely you will see it was fitted with a thick cardboard lining which was the norm in those days. Fiddly job to do it right, I think.
  24. See Life Magazine images for a picture of Churchills on parade during "King Sauds Visit To Iraq", 1957.
