  1. Kevin, I'm happy to hear you were able to successfully follow up on my leads and made good use of my reconnaissance work over in France. Yes, it is rusty but it is rare and it is very complete down to two instruction plates and gun clamps inside the cab. Here are some photos I made during my recce trip. Good luck with the restoration!
  2. Sorry to hear about your loss. Here's hoping you can find a good home for the Thornycroft J type and make Tomo's dream come true.
  3. Nice CMP, the C8AX is a rare truck. Get it running safely, then worry about cosmetics later.
  4. Here’s your truck's before & after entry in Wheels & Tracks magazine, Kevin.
  5. Email with phone number sent
  6. I will look up the contact details of a small transport company who's doing trips up and down to France
  7. No, other than what Rob van Meel wrote: "From an early MVCG/MVT magazine"
  8. From an early MVCG/MVT magazine, via Rob van Meel. A list of bicycle frame numbers used by the RAF include a listing for Hercules Gents Model: RAF numbers 11430 - 17429
  9. Well done, it looks splendid! Great to see a British truck in typical mid-war British colours 👌
  10. A tapered metal cone, IIRC.
  11. In the early 1980s I played with one they had at the Sea Cadet Corps in Potters Bar. Who knows it may still be there? It was a single gun mount and it looked like this:
  12. @Martin stewart, @Haridimos, see Reference: CMP tool box and spare tire holder plans - MLU FORUM (mapleleafup.net) for the toolbox plans. If you are not logged in on MLU use this link to download from the Maple Leaf Up google drive
  13. Hello all, I recently bought a 10-cwt mortar trailer in Belgium. Obviously, the original wood is long gone. The chassis is still pretty good, except for the tow bar which was replaced a long time ago with one made from round pipe to fit a civilian hitch. Does anyone have the parts for the tow bar - towing eye, brake lever and parts - and possibly a cut-off tow bar? Or dimensions so I can make up the tow bar? I realise I need more parts but I'd thought I'd start with the hardest bits 😉 Any leads to 10-cwt mortar trailer parts are appreciated. I live in the Netherlands. Thanks in advance!
  14. Here's a nice period photo of the 8'0'' wheelbase Commer Q2 Tractor. There are only a few survivors, one in a stunning RAF blue-black paint scheme, the other is a wreck and will hopefully restored one day. There may be more, but I can't see there would be more than a handful? of
  15. See https://www.ltf-hq.com/ for the organiser's website. I think the trip is fully booked but maybe some places will free up by september 2024
  16. One page from A.1397 - Camouflage of Mechanical Transport (O.M.T.2(a) - 31.12-42). Not sure where I found it, may have been here on HMVF. Would like to see the full publication is anyone has access to it.
  17. See the tread Reference: CMP tool box and spare tire holder plans - these are useable drawings but not done in CAD
  18. 1944 NW Europe markings is a different subject from the base colour on a vehicle built in 1943. Refer to the research done by Mike Starmer: "1942-44: Vehicles continued to be delivered and used in plain S.C.C.2 following ACI 1160 which gave S.C.C.2 as “Basic Paint”. even after the introduction of S.C.C.15 Olive Drab in 1944, vehicles were not to be repainted in the new basic paint / base colour unless absolutely necessary, e.g. after a rebuild. Mind you, I think any owner can paint his/her vehicle in any colour they like. I'm just trying to get the facts right. Did you or James find any original paint layers?
  19. What is the reason you say that a British contract CMP was painted green? Do you have a contemporary reference? Just trying to learn as as far as I know in 1943 SCC2 was the dominant base colour. Great project, by the way!
  20. Drawings for the toolbox can be found on MLU Forum; for the canvas cover hoops I will dig out my measurements and post them online
  21. I think I see a 26" size indicaton on the sidewall of the tyre?
  22. Another abandoned M18 on Kinmen island, Taiwan.
  23. IIRC this M18 had its roots in South Korea
