  1. I am now a Grandfather. My Daughter Emma has given birth to a baby Girl, Elizabeth, today (Thursday) at 13:35 at Darant Valley Hospital in Kent. Mother and Baby both doing well, as is James the Father. Robert Davey Reading
  2. I could do with a seat from the vehicle. Any idea of a contact phone number or owner? I am going to North Kent frequently in the next few weeks, so I won't be too far away.
  3. The play in the UJ joint on a WOT2 is the Backwards/Forwards movement. There should be play sideways only. Take the UJ off and try for any play if you move it Backwards/Forwards - there should be none. If any is detected, then replace/repair the joint. Please note that this joint is for a WOT2 only and is not used on any other Ford vehicle, although it is similar to others. At one time repair kits were available for these joints - try Belcher Engineering. Have you checked the bearing halfway down the torque tube? Also, have you checked the bearing on the rear axle pinion? My WOT2 has a UJ part number of WOT2-7090. I had trouble with my WOT2 and had to replace the joint. Got mine from Nordians, who unfortunately don't exist anymore. Hope this is helpful. Robert Davey
  4. Not car batteries, but could anyone help with suggestions on getting a Video camera battery working again? It worked 12 months ago, but doesn't want to know now (won't take a charge). Any suggestions welcome as otherwise I have to go out and buy a replacement battery. Thanks.
  5. I seem to remember a thread once asking if Jeeps were built sand coloured or re-sprayed when they got to the desert. I have just found a photo of a Ford WOT2 truck, and noticed that it was painted Kharki Brown and then re-sprayed sand colour. The rear view mirror has been damaged and the bracket removed, and the patch under the bracket shows a darker kharki colour to the Sand colour of the vehicle. The WOT2 must have been new and not previously used as it is the current model for the date of the photo. Check out IWM photos E22567 and E23186 for details. Therefore from this detail, I can only guess that Jeeps were supplied Green and re-sprayed Sand when they got to North Africa.
  6. There is a Ford WOA2 in the beginning of the Guns of Navarone, but it's only seen for a few seconds.
  7. Jack I have just seen this item. It is in the Nothe Fort at Weymouth and is in the Blitz display. I was on Holiday in Weymouth last week and went to the Nothe Fort for a visit and suddenly realised where I had seen the shovel before.
  8. I remember my Landlady talking about these vehicles, as she was a teenager in central London during WW1. (I worked and lived in Acton during the working week during the late 1970s early 1980s). She remembered the trucks driving around London trying to get a good shot at the Zeppelins.
  9. What happened to the one Salvage Squad restored on Channel 4?

    bedford mw??

This set up attaching the rear body to the chassis is identical to my Ford WOT2. Also all the bolts used on the cab or Body (Ford actually call it a Float) are Whitworth as they were made by Briggs Motor Bodies, a British firm. Everything mechanical is AF, usually UNC. I will measur the plate on my WOT2 and let you know the size.
  11. I have seen a photo of one of these in 'The Illustrated History of Ford Trucks, Vans and PSVs' and it seems to be a prototype by AWD for trial. Looks very much like a Bedford RL rival.
  12. I am hoping to go, but only as a visitor. My daughter Emma now lives a few miles away, so I can go to Chatham and also visit her.
  13. Any chance of a contact detail for this man? I have found out that force 135 had a Ford WOA2, as one partly appears in a photo in a magazine I found once. Just wondering if there are any more photos of the vehicle.
  14. Err... These are Telephone set D Mk5 and don't have handles to wind. I think you may have them confused with a Telephone set F.
  15. They are British Telephone D mk5 telephones from the first half of WW2. They are restricted use as they signal with a buzzer and not bells. The bells they have are for incoming calls only, so that a telephone with a magneto can call it. The buzzer units were common on early WW2 telephones, but were very unreliable if not checked and adjusted daily. Also the thing that looks like a morse key is to send a call to the other telephone and is not for morse. Not as reliable as a telephone set F or J and are worth about £8-10 each. If you get offered more, then accept it. Only seem to used for office use.
  16. I was in Guernsey on one of the Liberation tours and heard a fascinating story. A resident was in his garden and noticed a man looking over the fence at the house. The resident talked to him and the man said he was a German soldier from the war and asked if the bunker was still there as he was one of the guards. The resident knew nothing about any bunker, and started digging where the German said. He then found a 3 storey bunker, which he turned into a wine celler. I hope this story is true.
  17. Well they've been there a week and the Wife hasn't found out yet. All I have to do now is pick the right moment to tell her the news of my purchase (sorry, I mean investment).
  18. It's a British 6pdr 6cwt Anti-Aircraft gun. Only 2 prototypes made before the project was cancelled on 30 March 1945. It had an automatic ammunition feed as well as manual feed and was developed for jet aircraft, but was found to be unreliable. The carriage was 3 wheeled with 2 wheels at the front.
  19. Look on the bright side. We could have had this wet weather at Beltring this year - just think of the mud.....
  20. As the advert used to say 'Bedfords, you see them everywhere'.
  21. Is there anyone from the HMVF going to Crich Tramways museum this weekend for the 1940s weekend? I am going on a coach trip there on Saturday 9th August with my Brother and his Wife, and I need someone interesting to talk to, to save me from brain death... Before you ask, the coach trip is part of my Birthday present, paid for by my Brother - good bloke, just a bit boring.
  22. Yes, NG5 4AW - I think my glasses need cleaning......
  23. John Walker 52 Elmswood Gardens, Sherwood, Nottingham HG5 4AW Phone - 01159607860 email - johnwalk@aol.com I know he sells Ford V8 gaskets, as I got some from him at Beltring last year.
  24. Yes, they were powered by 2 Ford V8 engines. The last surviving complete LCA I knew about was in the the D-Day musuem at Arromanches. Some years ago they decided it was 'tatty' and destroyed it. Also the LCA was made of plywood, and was not built to last. If you look at photos of Weymouth in 1944, you will see the Rangers that took Pont-du-Hoc are being loaded into LCAs on Weymouth harbourside.
