  1. I thought a GMC had 12 wheels?
  2. Why are you worried about a 'Sea of Mud'? We coped alright at Beltring last year.....
  3. I got a set of screwdrivers from my eldest Daughter, so I can assemble her flat-pack furniture, a DAB radio from my youngest Daughter that I can use at W&P, and shirts from my Mother-in-law to wear at W&P. Wife's present was an OK to spend out on the new headlining for my WOA2.

    Is Yours Full?

My WOA2 has a faulty fuel guage, and I can't get a spare, so I carry a 2 gallon can, but it's carried inside the vehicle.
  5. I'm trying to talk the Wife into going at the moment. Think it's going to cost me a slap-up meal on the way home.....
  6. 43rd was the TA regiment in Reading, Berks and I do know they had a Champ based at Brock Barracks, Oxford road, Reading in the 1950s. I wonder if it was the same vehicle? If you find out, can you let me know, please?
  7. There's one on MILWEB in Medium vehicles at the moment. Just a chassis & cab, based in France.
  8. Just had a look at the website - £18 each to get in..... I think I will miss this one.

    Fantasy Barn

If you had a fantasy barn where you could store 10 Military Vehicles in, what would those 10 vehicles be? Money and resources no object, but make it realistic - no Tiger tanks. Also a trailer counts as a vehicle. If you want to keep your presemt vehicle, then include this as well. To start, here are my 10 vehicles. Ford WOT2 Ford WOA2 British Wartime Jeep with a 19 set fitted British Wartime 1/2 ton trailer Sherman Firefly tank AEC Armoured command vehicle (with all the radios & interior fittings) BSA M20 (Well I'll need an out-rider) British Universal carrier (Bren Carrier) Austin or Hillman tilly M8 Armoured car (ex-British Army, of course) Just wish I had the resources and money to buy them all. I can afford 2 at present, and that's my lot.
  10. Jules Post a picture of the truck and I will give you some information. It could be one of a few models as Thames covered a few models. However, if it's free, get it anyway.
  11. An artic Fordson 7V was used by Montgomery in 1944 as a map trailer, and is now owned by the Imperial War Musem. I beleive it is on display in Duxford.
  12. I have seen a photo taken in Reading in 1945 showing an E83W van with MAP markings (Ministry of Aircraft Production).
  13. I have been reading these replies, and my comment is that we plus the MVT, IMPS all re-enactment groups and all other interested organisations need to get together and form a united front rather than just bickering between ourselves. Could someone from a major group start by organising a meeting at a major show, such as Stoneleigh on Feb 3rd? This ban on de-acs isn't going to happen overnight, so we have time to plan a campaign and organise ourselves. Any comments?

    Grandad

Already working on the camo suit idea. Anyone know where to get a camo babygro? Seriously, many thanks for the comments, and the baby will be initiated into MVs at Beltring 2009.

    Grandad

My eldest Daughter Emma and partner James are due to make me a Grandad in early September. Makes me feel very old. No names for the baby yet, but I will keep you all informed of events.
  16. I was talking to an ex-SS man about this kind of thing. He said that they used T34 tanks in training to familiariae themselves with how to attack the tanks, and where the blind spots were. He couldn't recollect any actually used in combat.
  17. But the captain was sure it was one of those floating tanks.
  18. Joris - Congratulations. My eldest daughter Emma will be at W&P this year, with me. Emma is an A & E nurse and has delivered babies in Ambulances.

    One for Woa2

This is correct as I understand it. If I am wrong, somebody please correct me. The Ford V8 made in Dagenham was 21 stud 3622cc. Ford V8s made in Canada were all 24 stud 3920cc. I think they made both types in USA (Ford did not import engines during WW2 as Dagenham could produce engines faster than complete vehicles, although I have found wartime engine bearings with 'made in USA' on them). The mechanical parts between a 21 stud and a 24 stud are not interchangable except for external parts like water pumps. Exhaust manifolds varied considerably, depending on what vehicle the engine was to be fitted in. Therefore if you have a 21 stud Ford V8, it doesn't matter where it was made, as the block and internal mechanicals will still be interchangeable. PLEASE NOTE - The Ford V8 that the SUMB uses is NOT interchangeable with an English or Canadian Ford V8, as the french changed everything slightly. I take it you want to buy spares from the US for an English V8? Only advice I can give is to make sure you have the correct model as some part numbers did vary. Other than that, they are very similar. I will be at Dallas Digout on Sunday if you want to have a chat about V8s. Look for a green focus.
  20. Sorry, I can't help with the bits, but I will have a table there. Anyone on the HMVF who is going, please say 'hello'. Look for a green Ford Focus estate.
  21. If you look in 'D-Day Then and Now by After the Battle', Vol 1 page 203, it shows the same view from 1995. Also, the LCIs in the background took US troops to Omaha beach where one LCI was destroyed by an underwater explosion. If you go to Weymouth, go to the harbour and stand where the cross-harbour rowing boat service goes from, and this will be about where the photographer was standing. Otherwise, stand outside the lifeboat station, look across the water, and you can see the complete area.
  22. That is Weymouth Harbour, and the LCAs loading are the Rangers who took Pont-Du-Hoc. The large hotel building in the background is still there.
  23. Andy Robertshaw has agreed to give a talk at the Aldershot Militaria Society on Thursday 30th October 2008 at 7:30 (Get there at 7pm).
