  1. The stars and rings were applied at unit level, and I think it was how the Officer interpreted the instructions as to what got applied. Hence the differences.
  2. On British vehicles in the first half of the war there was a splodge of yellow paint that changed colour if there was a Gas alert and this was on the bonnet in front of the driver or on a small plate in front of the driver (as in a QL). I haven't heard that it was part of the RAF roundel.
  3. The white star in a ring on the upper surfaces was British, with the Americans using a broken ring (for aerial recognition). I beleive the White Stars were applied to all Allied vehicles in early 1944 (can't remember the date).
  4. Yes, I'm going with my Ford WOA2. Booked a hotel (with secluded car park) for a couple of nights. Haven't had any details through yet, though, but I have been told it's OK.
  5. ....er, they have Helicopter rides at War & Peace show. It lands in America field.
  6. I heard about a group that had Roundabouts as a hobby, and went around photographing them, even going for a holiday in Basingstoke just to photograph the roundabouts there. They were featured in a TV programme about unusual hobbies a couple of years ago.
  7. Definitley Albions. Contract V3522, Lorry 3ton 6x4 Pontoon.
  8. I know the problem. I was with Roadsure for years, but when they wanted £195 for 2 vehicles (Ford WOT2 and WOA2) and 2 drivers (Me and the Wife), I looked around - I decided on Footman James as they wanted £125 for the same deal (this was over 4 years ago). It's now £134 this year, so it's not too bad.
  9. My thanks to RSSROBOT for this thread reminding me about my Post Office complaint. A cheque for £5 arrived yesterday as compensation.
  10. Errr... I think the negetive is the wrong way round on the first photo. Interesting photos, though.
  11. The Acton branch of the TA was the last to be using Search Lights operationally and that was in the late 1970s as they provided lights for the Royal Tornamount one year. I was there and it must have been 1975/6/7. Can't remember the exact year. They stopped using searchlights a couple of years later, I beleive.
  12. British troops were also there in 1945 as the war ended. When they came home afterwards, vehicles were left in Norway.
  13. You haven't found any parts with LV7/FD have you? Just a long shot.
  14. Thanks to this thread and it reminding me of the compensation I didn't get, I contacted the Post Office and they had sent the £2.52 but to number 1 instead of 23 and wondered why it was returned. They are now sending it correctly.
  15. Thanks for this, it has reminded me that I am owed £2.52 by the Post Office. I posted a package at my local Post Office which they weighed, put the label on and charged me, but when it arrived, the Post Office said it was over weight and charged another £2.52. I have complained to the Royal Mail, but they haven't responded yet and it's been over a Month. Your note reminded me to chase it up.
  16. Write to the RLC MUseum at Deepcut or give them a phone call first. I beleive they charge about £25 for the info. However, as you have a wartime vehicle, information is a bit sparse so don't expect too much.
  17. There was somebody at Stoneleigh a couple of years ago selling the film on VHS. There were also some other Army films on VHS. I seem to remember they had 'The New Lot' on VHS aswell - could try looking through MVT magazines/Newsletters?
  18. I was driving on the M25 today (Friday 2nd May) heading towards Kent, and saw 2 Ward La France wreckers going clockwise, heading West. Was it anyone from the HMVF? One was towing a trailer.
  19. However, on the 'plus' side, it does have a photo of my WOT2 in there, taken at W&P in 2003.
  20. He sounds like the bloke I replaced. I kept finding his bodges and fixing them took ages. For example, a 3 phase power lead going into a junction box, and 3 single phase sockets coming out, all sharing the same neutral and earth connections. Another was using only 32amp breakers on 16amp or 11amp power leads.
  21. Be very careful with these, as they cannot prove they work. Check with the Federation of Historic Vehicle clubs or 'Practical Classics' magazine for more advice as a few years ago there was, I beleive, some serious concerns about their advertising claims. Can anyone else remember the case?
  22. I used to use a wire coat hanger at work to install multi-million pound Computer sytems at Vodafone. Very useful piece of kit to reach power leads or network leads just out-of-reach under the false floor of a Datacentre.
  23. Keeping Cats away is fairly easy. There are 4 ways of doing it :- 1. Cats do not like citrus smells, so leaving Orange or Lemon peel around keeps them away, and it does smell OK. 2. Cats respect larger Cats, so visit a local Zoo and get some Lion or Tiger poo and spread this around. The cats will think a larger animal lives there and will keep away. However, the smell might keep you away aswell. 3. Spray Pepper around, as it irritates their noses and makes them sneeze. Cats can get a fatal disease called 'Cat Flu' so sneezing to a cat makes them think they are very ill and will keep away. 4. Cats and Dogs can hear sounds that humans cannot, so if you play a CD of those noises, the cats will not stay. The final track on the Beatles 'Sergeant Peppers' LP includes those sounds as John Lennon didn't like Cats or Dogs. Hopes this helps.
  24. I will be at the Dallas Dig-out this weekend on 27th April with a stall. If anyone from this forum is going, please say 'Hello' as I would like to put faces to names. My stall will have a Green Ford Focus estate with it. My Wife Sharon and Monty the Dog will also be there with me.
  25. The side lights were not always moved to the wings on British Jeeps. I wonder if this could be a 'Gifted' Jeep lost from the Americans. The truck next to the Jeep looks like a Bedford, and it has lifting flanges on the rear wheels, which was a late war modification of 1944 or so. Also, UEO could mean Unit Education Officer.
