  1. I did see a new No2 Mk2 Generator at Stoneleigh on Sunday. I think it was on the Withams stand, but I'm not sure. I had a Radio Champ once, and I remember that the gearbox in these generators do lock up, so always get a spare - and the best of luck fitting it, as it is not an easy job. You do need the relevant control box for it which goes in front of the passenger seat.
  2. Pre-Larkspur would be a 19 set. I know these were fitted in Champs before Larkspur was common. A table on rails went behind the rear seat for the wireless and 19 sets used the aerial bases on the rear corners whereas the later radios used boxes mounted on the front wings. If you look at Mike Buckley's Champ, he has the later aerial boxes on the front wings. Have you a Radio Champ with the 2 speed generator (No2 Mk2) and 2 sets of batteries with the junction box behind the front passenger seat? This is the power take-off for the radio installation. Radio Champs also had different battery trays to the Carge version and different battery connections.
  3. Here is a picture of the one at the REME collection when I went for a visit to Bordon in 2006.
  4. I have heard of another Classic Car Insurance company, Hagerty. http://www.hagertyinsurance.co.uk/index.aspx They were advertising at Beaulieu Autojumble last September. I did talk to them and they were considering Military Vehicle insurance. My insurance wasn't due, but they gave me a quote close to what I am paying FJ. I will shop around in April when my insurance comes up for renewal.
  5. My youngest Daughter has just driven from Rochester in Kent to Reading Berks along the M25 and M4. It should have taken 1.5 to 2 hours in normal conditions, but today it took her 5 Hours from 9am to 2pm. She said there were several breakdowns on the M25 slowing things down. The snow looks worse in Kent than Berkshire.
  6. I'm trying to think of a joke about Chas 'n' Dave but the words fail me.
  7. Reminds me of an old joke - 'It is my own hair and I have the receipt from the wig company to prove it'. Jack, see you at Stoneleigh Sunday.
  8. I once worked at a small company, running the IT section. The Chief Accountant was in charge, and his words once were "Do you have to run a Backup before updating the Sales Ledger system?" I asked him if he really wanted to loose half a day's trading for the entire company..... I made a mental note afterwards Not to work anywhere an Accountant was allowed in charge of anything.

    B&Q

I don't quite qualify for the 10% discount yet, as I am only 57 (nearly 58). However I do use my Mother-in-Laws discount card which comes in very handy. I did go to Italy once and was appalled by the H&S there. Smoking is normal on petrol forecourts and the electrical plugs let you get live and neutral reversed.

    B&Q

Just something I have learnt recently that I thought other HMVFers would like to know, as we all buy things from B&Q for our homes, garages and loved ones (MVs, of course). I have bought things from B&Q over the years, and I have had only one problem but it has now happened twice. It seems that some customers open boxes on the shelves and change or remove items from the boxes. If you then buy one of these boxes you only find out the problem when you get home and try and use the product. B&Q are aware of this practice and do change or refund without any hassle. My warning to you is if you buy in B&Q, or anywhere similar, is to check that all the security tape is still in place and the box is still sealed. My 2 incidents were a missing battery from a fence sprayer and recently a pressure valve had been removed from inside a shower unit. B&Q are good at returns, so always keep the receipt and you will have no problem.
  11. Might seem a bit silly, but have you tried the Army? I am thinking of the Royal Engineers or the REME. Any contacts within our group?
  12. Try Joe Hirst at St.Mary Bourne near Andover, Hampshire 01264 738278. He had a load a few years ago. He is a Govt surplus and scrap dealer.
  13. I will be there. Just got my advance tickets.
  14. My Ford WOT2 manual tells me that the NUT is Red.
  15. In 1968 I had just started work at £8 a week. That means a Dingo would have been nearly 5 weeks salary.....
  16. A detail I found when restoring my Ford WOT2, the trafficator is White, and no red tip. I have looked at all the photos I had of WOT2 trucks in wartime, and all had a White trafficator only.
  17. It is on iPlayer - just heard it. I looked at the Radio4 section and the programme is there. Very interesting, and I enjoyed it.
  18. I know those rear lights were fitted to British 1/2 ton trailers, if this is any help. They are different to the one that fits a WOT2.
  19. Yes, just checked that and you are right. (Source='Sherman Firefly' by David Fletcher) Is this a post-war modification? Dutch Army, perhaps?
  20. Richard - Thanks for that. It is a good museum, but I have been there before and was going to call in again when the show was on in mid February. Trying to find somewhere new to visit, preferably in the Essex/North East London area?
  21. My Wife, Daughter and Grandaughter are going to a Baby show at Excel in London on Friday 27th Feb. I don't really want to go with them, but I have offered to take them there and must show willing. Now the question for everyone is, where can I go in the area for a few hours while they look round the show? Can anyone recommend anywhere I can visit with a WW2 Military theme? Is there a Museum close by? Please help, or I am committed to walking round a Baby show looking at Baby clothes, prams and the latest development in Nappy design.
  22. I have heard that the Ford WOT2 vehicles in Australia were destined for Singapore from England, but were diverted to Oz after the Japanese attack. Anybody any proof of this story?

    Bill Stone

Just mentioned this to my youngest Daughter Sarah. She knew him as she works at the surgery he attended in Reading (he lived locally in Wokingham). She said he was a lovely man and was sadded at the news.
