  1. Mick, It will work, but you'll go deaf in the other ear! Chris
  2. Keith, Change the fuel filter, the small filter at the carb, and blow through all the lines. Re-connect it all up and prime the system using the bleed valve you mentioned. Keep pouring fuel in there untill it stops making bubbling noises. I did this with a bottle and a piece of hose. Keep the bottle high enough so that it forces fuel all the way round the system. Chris
  3. Engine and gearbox SAE30, brakes DOT4, flywheel ISO10 hydraulic fluid, everything else is EP90.
  4. Vince, I checked the part number, it's not a CVRT brake disc. Chris
  5. Hi Radek, I like your new Tilly, I was tempted to buy it myself! Chris
  6. Thanks for the messages folks, sadly the flowers and chocolates have not arrived, Jack must have sent them royal mail!
  7. Nikwax products are designed for washing and re-proofing outdoor clothing such as Goretex jackets.
  8. Make sure all oil/brake lines, gear change and transfer rods are disconnected. Remove hub cap, then depress the spring loaded locating plunger and pull the shaft out of the coupling. This is on the inside and you may need to rotate the final drive to get this lined up so you can see it.Then remove the 4 bolts from the gearbox clamps and lift out gearbox.
  9. I did all of mine with the engine and gearbox in place, it was not easy but is do-able!
  10. Alternativley if you want it to look smart, use a quality paint from an automotive supplier and spray it on.
  11. Try Factory Manifold Grey from Frosts. It only really works if you can blast the surface first, but I've had it on my Ferret exhaust manifolds for 7 years and it still looks as good as new.
  12. I think there were at least 2. One was kept at the old Alvis factory in Coventry untill fairly recently, it was for sale a few years back.
  13. Richard, it was Nigeria. I believe they are using them for target practice these days. Chris
  14. Lee, Looks like a hacked about 1/2 ton trailer. Chris
  15. Richard, I have just put some Messier dampers on my Sabre, the mod instruction states to use JC5A. However the dampers had both the yellow stuff and the red stuff on them, so I guess they used whatever they had to hand. It also seems they didn't quite follow the instructions on my vehicle, the rear mounting holes were not deep enough for the bolts specified in the mod instruction and one of the holes is a few mm out! :argh: Chris
  16. Richard, Thanks for the info. I knew there were a few mod kits for the carb. I know of several cases of the failure shown here: http://afvsociety.co.uk/Forum3/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=137 This seems to be fairly common amongst privatley owned Foxes. Did this occur in service too? Chris
  17. 8030-99-220-2495 is JC5A 8030-99-224-7400 is a Dry Moly Paste
  18. Vince, It should be JC5a jointing compound, but that's expensive as it's used in aerospace. I've been using Red Hermetite instead as it's cheaper. You will find a mix of both on CVRTs. Chris
  19. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet_tank They do make a fantastic noise.
  20. I'd be interested to hear it Richard. I've heard of plenty of people who have had gearbox problems in private ownership. We assumed it was because it was basically a Ferret box, but a more powerful engine and more weight to shift?

I am not sure I like the word 'improve' in your message, they are perfectly ok in standard form, but there is a great book on them if you can find it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Half-Ton-Military-Land-Rover/dp/1903706009
  22. Ieuan, We have a Fox, which we have pretty much completely rebuilt fromt he ground up. It is not a bad vehicle, but it is one which needs a lot of care and attention. There is not much modern technology in there, it's all fairly basic. Its is however very crampt and it wouldn't have been possible to fit more modern equipment in the turret as it has been with the CVRT. The engine is a weak spot, but the gearbox seems to be the main problem with them. Most former Fox crewman have fond memories of them, most former REME guys didn't enjoy them quite so much! Chris

  24. What kind of vehicle are you looking for? Quite a lot of stuff changes hands through word of mouth or people you meet at shows.
