  1. I did mine in my Sabre. Booked the test online, examiner came to the house. He was an ex-army driving instructor. He stood and watched while I did a few circuits round the houses. A couple of manoeuvres, Highway Code questions and it was done. It might have changed now. I think it cost around £65. https://www.gov.uk/learning-to-drive-a-tractor-or-specialist-vehicle/driving-tests-for-tractors-and-specialist-vehicles Chris
  2. Hi Lance, The issue with the Fox is that it has 4 wheels but is not a goods vehicle, which is what confuses the DVLA. The Department for Transport have advised people on several occasions to classify it as a Motor Tractor which is what we did with ours, as John suggests. Registering a CVRT as a crawler is not an issue as it’s obviously got tracks so the DVLA staff can easily compute that! Chris
  3. You could also check the temperature of the hubs after a drive.
  4. I used the Powerspark electronic ignition module, they suggest you use their leads so I did that too. Not period correct but they look fine and work well.
  5. I use Champion J8C, you can find them very cheap on eBay.
  6. Found this by accident earlier.. https://www.orlandoautomuseum.com/vehicles/3990/1964-daimler-ferret-mk-1-2 It’s still alive, so there’s still hope it might get saved.
  7. It depends on age. The later ones, from 1980 I think, had the civilian style pointy half shafts rather than the flat ones fitted from new. Mines an ‘83 and had the pointy ones. If someone has broken a half shaft in civilian ownership then it’s possible they fitted a civvy one as they’re easier to source.
  8. Don’t use a chisel, use a brass drift.
  9. From your photo I can se me you have a diesel, therefore you need the common items and Spartan supplement from here: https://www.greenmachinesurplus.com/cvrtd-219-c.asp
  10. https://afvsociety.com - although it is mostly CVRT.
  11. The turrets were apparently built by Alvis, but the Fox definitely wasn’t. They were designed by Daimler and the production vehicles were built at the Royal Ordnance Factory Leeds. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Royal-Ordnance-Factories-Fox-Combat-Vehicle-R-Data-sheet-Full-colour-New-/312138106698?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
  12. The tube on the left fits in the same place as the night sight and allows you to see through the sight using the mirror. The night sight itself can be damaged by daylight. They do turn up occasionally, I’ve had a few.
  13. Yes & not without checking, but I’d assume pin A is live.
  14. Hi Lance, I’ve had 3 Spartans and none of them had anything plugged in there. Chris
  15. I bought a NOS one at War & Peace a few years ago. It was a shame to open the box. There are some good Jeep parts dealers on the continent. https://www.jeepsudest.com http://www.classicjeepparts.com/sv/ http://www.wildenbergparts.nl
  16. Have you tried here? https://staman.nl/socket-wo-a-6019.html
  17. I think he means in the online auction ending tonight.
  18. Have you seen volume 2 on Amazon?! Warpaint: Colors and Markings of British Army Vehicles 1903-2003, Vol. 2 (Green Series, Vol. 41) by Dick Taylor (2008-06-02) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01K14LI96/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rOL9EbSY6ZY2S
  19. Have you seen the Greendot 319 videos on YouTube? I don’t think you’ll know until you have the parts in your hands and try them out.
  20. The height also depends on which size tyres are fitted!

  22. The hardest thing seems to be finding one that’s not been messed about with too much. Usually they have big wheels, a v8 or tdi, coil springs, etc etc. I’m doing one at the moment which was supposed to be a quick project but it’s full of little bodges and they all add up.
  23. It’s much easier to find what you need when you a) know what it’s called and b) can quote the part number. https://www.greenmachinesurplus.com/vehicle-manuals-1-c.asp Some dealers only work with part numbers.
