  1. I have just read through this. http://www.bayonetstrength.uk/BritishArmy/BritInfBn/Org of the British Inf Bn 1938-45.pdf
  2. So, for a little while now I have been pondering the structure of Light Infantry Battalion's during WW2. Obviously Google provides quite a lot of details and I have found some information in my books. But, what I am really interested in is the Motor Transport used within Battalions and how its ranks would have their uniforms badged. For example, My Grandfathers served in the Somerset Light Infantry during WW2 and both were drivers or driver mechanics. I assume that the Infantry Battalion would have its own motor transport so they would wear their Somerset titles etc. But, recently I have been told by a few people that the motor transport would have been manned by RASC personnel attached to the said Infantry battalion? So, I suppose this is a sort of MV question yet also a Light Infantry uniform question?
  3. So, a bit of a throw back. This clip is from before Christmas when we finally got the engine running and starting each time. At this point we were fine tuning the running and the exhaust was fitted but without a gasket. It took an awful lot of work to get to this point. Obviously, since then we have dropped the gearbox and removed the flywheel in order to replace the starter ring.
  4. Bitterly cold down in Somerset this weekend but we started to ramp up the strip down of the body. All the wings, fuel and oil holders are now off and the U bolts are off. We are planning to jack prop the body just a little higher and then simply push the lorry out. In doing this we can get much batter access to rubbing down the chassis and also we can replace the rotten cross members and the complete floor on the body.
  5. I like the timber work. We had to rebuild a lot of the body on our 1950 Commer and I can appreciate the work put into this.
  6. That's really good to see Keith. I am just in the process of determining what marking we will use on our Commer.
  7. I love the improvised radiator, its all looking good.
  8. I have bought cheap replacement coils from ebay, gone through 2 before I bit the bullet and bought a proper replacement from a well known vintage supplier. So yes go for replacements but be wary when it comes to price and quality.
  9. Reading through the article I did wonder what the 50 Rare vehicles are?
  10. Better option than trying to store the complete aircraft!!
  11. This old thread is superb, I have so many Commer photos but this one I have not seen before.
  12. That second alternative really does make sense, running a small bead pre weld to lessen the angle is a great bit of advise. So simple yet I can see its advantage.
  13. I think our hobby is a great learning process. Both trial and error on our parts and using advice from friends on the forum.
  14. Things are moving along slowly, mainly due to work and the awful weather we are having. Will be adding some more pics this week.
  15. Yes, I have a strong feeling many museums simply won't cope with the fallout from Covid. Likewise I think we will loose lots of shows to its financial inpact too.
  16. The chassis looks to be in very good condition?
  17. That's a challenge, but on the plus side it is good patterns to use. Time consuming and complicated. But it will be worth it.
  18. That is a superb little truck.
  19. I don't think its the same Guy, there are differences between the vehicles.
  20. Small business rate relief banding changed to 100% at £15k a few years back. Our unit has a rateable value of £9k and we had to pay rates each year, we dont now and unless the banding changes again will probably never have to again. We were always told its building not what goes on in there.
