  1. Rick, yes I know, but those red and blue lines, very strange. My scan isn't that big is it?? Thanks Dusty, it figures, but there were several Welbikes left behind in the UK, my first one came from there, found in an old air raid shelter was the story, bought it for 80 pounds at Beaulieu, lot of money! (in 1984) Cheers, Lex
  2. Thanks Wally, I keep meaning to ask, but what sort of scanner do you use? no offence, but it comes out terrible, maybe the settings can be twitched a little?? don't get me wrong here, I love the info!!. Dusty, that's interesting info, where did you get it from? Have a scan here, that speaks for itself, 8000 is offcourse twice as much as they ever made, but still.... Cheers, Lex
  3. Thanks a lot Wally!!! first time I see Welbikes listed in the sales cat's!! they were supposed not to be sold in the UK, was this the same sale as above? Any pictures of the dataplates of the Jeep? am sure other readers will want to see aswell. Cheers, Lex
  4. Just click here: http://sentimentaljourney.co.uk/index.html Cheers, Lex
  5. Hi there, wasn't me!!! Cheers, Lex
  6. Yes, Ron pointed out that all marque clubs have to re-apply with the DVLA, even if they had been doing this service for more then 20 years!! But the Enfield club, as being big, will soon find out, or already have re-applied with the DVMA? Cheers, Lex
  7. Hi there, No doubt Jan will chime in here too, since RE's are involved, but want to point out one thing, the number you quoted as being the engine number is not that, that is the repeated frame number, nice to know this engine belongs in the frame but the real engine number can be found under the magdyno, so a little bit to the right, and and a bit lower then the other number. So can be seen, just above the primary chaincase, under the points cover. You might aswell register it with the right numbers I'd say. Cheers, Lex
  8. Richard, not much of a difference then!!! hahaha, but presume not with a C prefix. Cheers, Lex
  9. Rik, I assume it's the same as the above: "this sale took place in june 1948" Only glanced at the Nortons, will have to see if the combinations on the prev. pages were B4's or not?? all listed as 500cc though, but more mistakes have been made with the capacity before! Cheers, Lex
  10. Thanks Wally, Yes, loads went to New Zealand, but also to the RAF in the UK! Here a breakdown, from the excellent British Forces Motorcycles, Orchard & Madden book; Cheers, Lex
  11. Does anyone know who the real (current) owner of the Welbike is?? if the number on the tanks is right, this is the earliest recorded MK1 in my database, but it really is impossible, as this dates it before the first contract, and it is no prototype, strange!! Cheers, Lex
  12. Andrew, that was my first Normandy!! and maybe the best, did you stay on the Arromache campsite? please have the slides scanned, I have next to nothing from that period. Cheers, Lex Schmidt
  13. Still in Normandy, but have Wi-Fi this year! But bizzy with some excavations on the beach; After applying some WD40, it's as good as new!! Cheers, Lex
  14. Thanks Wally, I had come to the same conclusion, only combinations, but when were they sold then? The RAF used thousands of them! the spares for them were not sold from the RAF till the late 80's! But they were for sure 500cc bikes, and there were a couple 750cc bikes too, but not many, I have one of them. Also the 1200cc ones, all with sidecar, so where the 600cc came from???? Cheers, Lex
  15. Wally, do you have anything on Indian 500cc Model 741's?? heard a rumour that large lots were sold off just after the war, but no hard evidence!! Thanks, Lex
  16. Hi all, Stumbled across this thread, and remembered I had just bought a picture with a Matchless G3L on it, with similar markings Caption reads: "August '44 Norwegian troops, officer delivering mail to the men" Nothing springs to mind, to identify the troops as Norwegian to me?? But anchors all over the place! maybe someone can make something off it?? Cheers, Lex
  17. Agree to all that, but there were different offsets! Cheers, Lex ps, Bob it was not clear, and thought the wheels you pictured were on your guns. appearrantly not so.
  18. Hi Bob, You do have the right rims!! on one side they are mounted the wrong way round, and the tires are too big, but they are OK. See scans, Lex
  19. Told you Ron would know! but he has a strange thing with Yolks!!! Anyway here pictures of the knobs, on left is the one that is still available, right the cast one that's sold, and another variant, also f/s. Cheers, Lex
  20. Jenk, pm answered, will post picture here shortly. Cheers, Lex
  21. Oliver, Ron will know! But seems to be very high priced! Cheers, Lex
  22. Nobody any idea??? had a look at it again last week, and is really well built, turns around, only magneto and waterpump seems to be missing, maybe no waterpump needed?? Thanks for looking anyway. Cheers, Lex Schmidt
  23. Yes, there is a couple more in that series, nice colour!! Thanks, Lex
  24. Did find some M20 knobs today!! are f/s too, almost same as above, but matt chrome, and not cast. Cheers, Lex
