  1. Here some pictures of mine, 99% original parts, exept the inner tubes! (no repro parts were used) compared to originals, Metal Magic is OKish, but still lot's of minor differences with originals. Cheers, Lex PS, dropcage is 100% repro.

  3. Ah, OK, that's why I'm single, and have 25 bikes! not sure what is the best option though…. Yes, is possible, had not thought of that!! The front part of the mudguard has been cut off, and brazed to the Enfield lower part, hope I can save the Enfield part!! Bracket I do not know, Jan thought it a French thing, but not so sure.
  4. Rik, the rear number plate is not original unfortunatly, but will sand the front one real carefull! Didn't know it was on here before??? You just bought the tailpiece!!! Yes, have no idea where it came from, but when still in stores, it would have ended up with the Germans, and not in civvy hands, I'd think? Cheers, Lex

  7. I'd have to check it, but the thinner G3L plates are reinforced there, so all magneto platforms are the same and will fit all type of plates, just as the spacers etc. Cheers, Lex

  9. Have probably some NOS G3WO plates left, they are one side only, but easily modified, by cutting of the one elongated piece for the chain adjuster bolt. Email me please. Cheers, Lex

Hi all, This is not going to be another restoration post of another ex BEF early Royal Enfield WD-C, Ron certainly did his utmost best on that, but just wanted to post here that another one was found recently in France, by Jan, passed up by Richard Payne, and bought by me! It was quite the trip to go and collect it, but well worth it!! The bike a model WD-C is a matching numbers (No. 727) so from contract C5107 dated 27-09-1939 delivered (educated guess) 12-02-1940. sadly no C number was found on the engine, and no erasion marks either, strange! The old chap in France had a go at "restoring" the bike about 10 years ago, and painted it all black, as he thought it was from 1937, he ordered parts and stuff from Hitchcocks, but could not get the engine to run because of magneto failure. Before he acquired it, it was used by a priest in the 1950's, previous history unknown, but may have been left by the BEF in Bologne, Le Havre, or even Bordeaux ? (I bought it from near Vannes, the area number; 44 is on the bike and on the car from the prev. owner, so must have been there a long time) Non original parts were a BSA DeLuxe petrol tank, early Norton rear mudguard and Luggage rack, French headlamp, tailllamp, numberplate holder and speedo. And the most difficult parts, the wheels! they are of French origin I think, or maybe the back one Ariel, not sure yet. After I picked up the bike I went on south to visit friend Arnoud, who supplied me with the right pertol tank and wheels, very nice!! (and free of charge!!) so only sort of missing the aluminium brake plates, that might be prove to be difficult to find….. (anyone here??) Ron supplied me with an unribbed rear guard (Jan will make a rib in it for me) and a slightly butchered rear carrier. The Deluxe BSA tank has been sold to recuperate some of the costs, as was the Norton rear carrier. More parts were made by Jan, and kindly donated to the project, and I picked them up yesterday, THANKS Jan!! (also for lunch!) I will fit these parts at a later stage, before completely dismanteling the bike, and start restoration, some other projects have to be finished first! Below some pictures, from before the "repaint" and as I have it now, many parts have the Khaki Green No.3 undermneath. original exhaust system is present, and very usable! Will add some more pictures and info at a later stage, want to have the bike complete before I begin restoration, luckily I have a spare speedo, 6,5" Lucas headlamp, and MT110 taillamp in stock, and some more little stuff.   13. Yes Steve, first thing I asked the owner of the Swedish bike, for more numbers, but there's nothing at all! Have picked up some original tyres over the years, have to replace the rear soon. Will take some pictures of the Flea in the dropcage next week, it's going for a display! Lex

Steve, there are no postwar orders for anything flea in the factory dispatch records, There was nothing at all for engine number G4711 (Swedish export engine) in the dispatch records, and nothing for the Belgian order that I asked Jan a month ago, and he and the R.E. guy in the UK had never even heard of that!! Now there is some info on the prewar RB's, and it seems 70 were delivered, with gaps, and after that the record keeping went awry. "50 Bikes with frame numbers 103 - 152 inclusive are Model RB Deluxe despatched in July 1939". But cannot post more without permission from Jan. Cheers, Lex
  15. Then there is the whole export market just after the war, where Flea engines were exported to Belgium and Sweden, nothing at all about that in the Royal Enfield archives, very strange!! Cheers, Lex

Steve, the RB's started with framenumber 101, mine is 208, (engine numbers were matching, with an "E" prefix) and another here in Holland is 1321, but that came from Scotland, the first export series to Holland, were 100 pieces, just before the outbreak of the war. but mine and another with framenumber 256? were always in Holland, and hidden during the war, so at least 155 were delivered to Holland in 1939. Have much info on the RB's, interesting piece of shXt ! (technically even worse then the Flea) Cheers, Lex

Also have a limited supply of the special cable adjusters, and the little spring clips for the centre stand, often missing, all NOS, but a bit shop soiled. 20 pounds for the 3 bits, postage extra. Cheers, Lex PS, I am not sure if the bottom cable adjuster is Flea at all?? mine has a much smaller one fitten on the clutch arm.
  23. Yes, you have a good start Sam, I don't have the throttle parts anymore, long ago sold out, maybe the part that clamps onto the round tube, but have to look. High resolution scans of the parts book I can send by "We Transfer" don't know if I have the maintenance manual scanned, but do have some very nice copies of the riders handbook left, can take to the coming Malvern miltary jumble. Here's how I found mine, in the US, with a story that an 8th airforce veteran stole it from an airfield in the UK after his last mission, and took it on his bomber home to the US, where he used it briefly after the war, painted red, then it sat in his damp cellar for a long time, the rims were rusted through by the time I got it! And here finished, in one of the most used pictures on the web! (no that's not me holding it!) Have many more detail pictures, and information.

It is possible to make one yourself, a lot of work, but did it years ago, when nothing was available, the cast in numbers are not there offcourse, but using a postwar kickstarter for the splined bit will be neccesery, see pictures. The bit where the stop sits in the casting is the hardest, when not having a milling machine, did it by oldfashioned filing! the rest is just filling it with weld, and grinding, helps when you have an original handy!
