  5. Get a very long boathook and pop a respirator on. Reach carefully into the shed and slowly hook the maggot by the carrying handle and drag it gently out keeping upwind by a decent distance. Ahhh you mean how do you get the mouldy mustiness out?? Check the maggot does not have 768 BROOK on it in black marker pen. If it does, take no further action but dispose of it through emergency hazardous waste channels. If it doesn't then you stand a chance of reviving it. Get it in a bag and take it down to the laundrette and bung it in the duvet washing machine. It probably says something really helpful on the label like "Dry clean only. Do not iron" but I regularly did mine when I was serving in a normal washing machine in extremis - just remember to try and shake it all out as much as possible as soon as possible and keep doing so as it dries out. My recollection is that they dry quite quickly - about 3 months should do it. Which is why they get musty in the first place - always best to store them unwrapped.

  10. Keep the petrol in it - its only money! One of these days I will sort out a simple gas conversion for these sort of things. There's a chap n Beverley who has a gas converted B60 in a Dennis fire engine. It runs a treat and the running costs are easily as good as a diesel conversion.

Blinking heck he said (or something similar) how can you tell they are Chinese? Cos they have "made in China" stamped on them says I....

  15. I am sure that there is a place in Grantham (and I think its called Vintage Radiators). That said I have used the Serck service in the past - and a £200 budget is about right in my experience.
  16. In a clean tank I rate them - I happen to like POR15 but I have used others.
  17. You can easily spend 10K on a big engine overhaul plus there will be all the cooling and propulsion gear to fettle as well. Add to that the cost of getting them out and back in again and I don't think 100K is that far short of the mark, bearing in mind there are three of them. Just my two pennorth. Good luck to them I say!
  18. Knowing what I know about the random decelleration feature (on other vehicles this is known as the braking system) I advise caution regarding attempts to increase velocity. As for flatness you should have tried the pre-production models with an ancient TH350 auto sludge pump gearbox. Ohhh lordy. Not a helpful post I admit, but seriously, with those brakes I would err on the side of caution.

  20. As someone who has made more than enough daft errors can I just ask if the clutch plate is in the right way round?

Cor blimey - finding a page out of a notebook with a registration number on it is, in my very humble opinion, a very long way indeed from establishing whether the vehicle it was found in bore that number. In fact the more I think about it the less likely it becomes in my mind.I am not saying that it isn't the number, but much better to find the data plate, chassis number or even contract number solidly connected to the hull and work from there! TGHQ almost certainly stands for task group HQ - but as such that could refer to any one of a thousand TGs - by their very nature they were and are ad hoc groupings put together for any one of a million reasons - even exercises. I am reminded of the tale of some fellow young officers heading back from a night out in Highworth. Boarding the bus one asked "does this bus go to Shrivenham?". "It says so on the front doesnt it?" replied the grumpy driver. "Ah yes" responded the soberest amongst the potential passengers "and it says Bristol on the back but I bet the bugger didn't come from there...."
  22. Nice - love those Fodens! Just out of interest what is it plated at? Only I would have thought that with both a rack and a 434 that is getting quite heavy...
