  1. Thank you for the picture. A real thrill. Changing the subject a little a few camp fires ago Commercial Motor did a feature on a Bedford twin engined side by side Tractor Unit
  2. It will need to be overflowing before you start. Sometimes even for the eternal optimist it is just a click to far
  3. Trembles in Newcastle ran an Antar on heavy haulage they used to get 2 gallons to the Mile. It was in their garage on Whitley Road the last time I saw it.
  4. Hello. You certainly know how to make an entrance!
  5. I did not have any more information. I did wonder if someone would be able to put a number to it. Good to know it evaded the gas axe.
  6. I was talking to a man today, and he remembered seeing an Antar in a scrapyard in Wigan with 2 side by side RR B80 engines. He also remembers talking about the fuel consumption, Best 3 gallons to the mile.
  7. I think sometimes the designers lost sight of the fact, that these machines had to be maintained and have major repairs carried out in the field under fire. Also under atrocious weather conditions. Design and Testing must have taken an inordinate amount of time and expense when I would have thought simplicity and speed would have been the name of the game. Never the less It gives people like you the opportunity to shine and show just what standard of work is achievable, in the new electronic age. Your thread is really testament to your work ethic. I take my hat off to you.
  8. Reinstating the site is not a chore. It is a lasting signature and shows the professionalism of the people involved
  9. Welcome. Vehicles, Ambition and a sense of adventure tinged with danger.
  10. If you cannot get the part that you need, I have a N.O.S. distributor for a 28hp or 214. it has push in plug leads not screw in type. There are three distributors advertised by someone on ebay for parts. Regards John.
  11. Irrespective of the outcome the valuable information just keeps on coming
  12. Factory fresh plus standard of work. Our thoughts are with you, because of the earthquake.
  13. In some cases engine improvements and critical calculations were carried out by people who had not seen the engine or piece of equipment that they were working on. Like Sir Stanley Hooper, who was a mathematician he got 10%more power out of a Merlin without seeing one or Mrs Shilling.who improved its ability to perform in combat.
  14. A history lesson and getting the next generation involved. I would think it makes all of the hard work worthwhile
  15. Rent a trailer if you have to, Life is an adventure
  16. Welcome. You have an interest in vehicles built during one of the most interesting periods of the 20th century. Cab design changing from the most rudimentary examples to safe work places Fuels being developed. Engine power outputs climbing combined with increased reliability combustion processes developing.Bearing materials improving. Engines and vehicles going from individual builds to production line assembly. Brake and Drive train advances,Constant mesh, synchronized meshing, pre selector and automatic gearboxes all making debut and finding there place. Portal axles banjo and split examples. Exposed and enclosed propeller shafts, layrope couplings and various examples styles of spider couplings. Chassis shape and materials developing All wheel drive with various suspension methods. Cart spring, independent, torsion bar. Tyres and Tracks developing Not to mention articulation starting to become common place. All produced by a myriad of companies both home grown and overseas. Mostly consigned to history. Which is where this site finds its place.
  17. Good luck. It will make a good yard machine. Just Do Not get between it and anything else
  18. Going from memory. Either Leyland or Cummins engined, Clark transmission pretty bulletproof, rear CV joint a bit fragile. Brakes sometimes. Easy to work in a shower of what ever you were loading if not careful. Windscreen sometimes. Slow but reasonably reliable. I think the parking brake adjuster is a knurled on the top of the lever in the cab.
  19. For sale or trade Need identifying for use
