  1. When my father was at RAF Finningly in the 60's he told me of a Vulcan that on startup retracted the undercarriage whilst still on the dispersal. Anyone else there at the time. My father tells me he was in looking out the window just as all this went off. When this was kicking off he tells that one of the ground crew was sat on the nose wheel waiting to pull the GPU lead out and as the main gear went up he had time to run out from under the wheel bay before the nose wheel gave out when the nose came crashing down just missing him, at this point the pilots fired teh canopy off which landed just infront of this poor chap making him turn round and try and find a new place to run. Dad tells me that it looked very Tom and Jerry for this chap who looks as though he didn't know if he was coming or going. Was anyone else either at F|inningly at the time or anyone else heard this story. I know the reason for the accident, does anyone else? Does anyone have any photos of this ? :nut:
  2. The MOD do put some thought if little into the names of there equipment, one that stands out though not a tank is the DH Dove which was renamed the Devon as they thought the name gave the wrong impression , links to "Peace".
  3. Have you not seen the film its from. Looks very real though. Very good effects.
  4. Which tanks has been seen in more theatres of operation and by the most countries? I would guess its a Brit!
  5. I would start at the plgs, if there is a misfire on 1 of the mags and not the other it should be down to eith the spark plugs the leads or the mag its self, may be a worn or missing carbon brush. The good things with mags is they either work or not, but when getting old they can start to breakdown when warmed up. Hope this is of some help.
  6. What would I look for as I dont think there is a part number that I can use. Are they down as a particular type of fuse?
  7. Is it Battle dress or the later type which is almost the same as the modern RAF uniform. The uniform still belongs to the crown as cadets dont buy there own uniform it is like the regs issued and when time expired to be returned to stores. Old cadet uniform is not worth much , but the ATC silver chrome butons are hard to find .
  8. Has to be a Centurion, no other thaks has come close to it.
  9. I agree with you compleatly.Like the idea of having a car that is inspired by rather than an exact copy. that way you can tell the rivet counters which way to go. It still stands out from the rest. Hows does the Schwimvagen compare to the GPA? Always prefered the duck to the GPA, but the GPA has to be easier to park!!
  10. Have always thought the Mosquito to be one of the most important and historic aircraft of all time.
  11. Is this going to be a swimmer or is that for a later project? Also Wanted to know how close this will be on exact measurments or is it more a close match. Either way its still impressive piece . Beats the Faecal matter out of the Recce Land Rover replicas out there!. Keep up the good work.
  12. After seeing the RAFBF polls on aircraft got me thinking. When I was a young lad I got to fly on most weekends as a UM as My Father was an Aircraft Engineer with BA so got to fly up and down to LHR and LBA. Lucky with being the son of staff got to spend it in the cockpit. ANyway to the question. I always wanted to flying in any aircraft but always wanted a flight in the Lancaster, the DC3 and Meteor. If you could choose 3 aircraft to fly in what would you pick over any other?:coffee:
  13. I thought the swiss gave there's away for free ! But you had to be Swiss to get one. I would go for a Meteor T7 or T9. We had them at RAF Brawdy as target tugs. I think they where the last in service in the RAF, I do not count the Vintage pair, they where in service as much as the BBMF are. Not that I think we should not still have the RAF flying classic jets. I would love to see a coldwar or classic jet flight within the RAF. But I would guess the cost would be a problem not to mention parts and expeirence. After all the BBMF is for rememberance as well as PR. You could not say the same for coldwar jets.
  14. Spotted this on Ebay , USMC Harrrier cockpit. just a bare shell but is a start point. Item number 140350023306.
  15. Have been trying to get some spare fuses for my clansman intercom for the BARV and Sabre and have had no luck so far. I have been unable to find anyone who stocks such small fuses. Anyone know of a souce for these? Had thought of using fuse wire and repairing the old ones but the clearance is to close to do this when in the holder.
  16. Here are a cople of photos of said spanners. sorry dont have them. I want a set for mine too. Thes photos where from another forum member. Have you tried the mag test switch to see if running either mag 1 or 2 makes a difference. Hope its somthng simple. Where are you in the country. there is a chap near leicestershire who has moved mine real good price to.
  17. Always wanted to take the BARV to the supermarket!
  18. Any photos of HMS Belfast going under tower bridge. Its a pity she does not move under her own power anymore.
  19. Has to be the Dak , no other aircraft had such a drammatic effect on the cause of teh war and was listed by Eisenhower as one of teh 5 war winning bits of kit.
  20. I wanted to have a vehicle to do the school run and easy to park when shopping , needs to be fuel efficient for commuting. This is why I wanted to have teh sabre that little more ecconomical.
  21. I got my BV off Ebay and only paid £22 including postage. this is just to say bargins are still to be had.
  22. You not bothering with the 4 wheel drive or is it not viable?
  23. Did anyone have a list of the number of these vehicles? There must be a list some place that has the number of all land vehicles used as well as those lost on the Atlantic conveyor.
  24. Whats wrong with leaving as it would have been when in isreal? For me that later part of its service is just as important as the begining. There is just as much if not more to the story by leaving as it was when it left service. How many Half tracks as set up as WW2 models and how many as those that would have service in the 6 day war?
  25. Remember when I was in both the ATC and the RAF songs that where song whilst out and about. Remember a channel crossing back to camp in Germany when the 8 coaches of RAF and Army all together got to singing songs in the bar. Does anyone remember the lyrics for any of these songs. I can remeber some bits bit not the whole song. Ones that come to mind are the "Welsh miners" "Three dirty Germans in a tank" and the "Engineers song". Anyone have a copy of these song lyrics or what songs do you remember. Do rememebr one that went somthing along the lines of B*lls to all the officers dirty men but cant remeber anything else.
