  1. Indian riders hand book has this coment about brakes. " The brake's are to retard forward movement " but says nothing about stopping. Anyone who has ever riden an indian will agree they may slow you down but do a dame poor job of stopping you quickly. the book advises nothing about emergency braking! I have found that on the Indian all braking is emergency braking!:nut:
  2. I remember some years back when the American special forces where on a tour of the Guards depot and where shown the new recruits on the assault course and there challanged the americans team to go against a team of Coldstreamer new recruits on the assault course, they refused saying that they did not do that kind of training. Says a lot for the Guards that there recruits are able to do what the US troups wont! :cool2:
  3. Does the CET share any parts with any other AFV or is it one on its own?
  4. I have spoken with the driver whoi brought that BARV ashore and he is the one who told me it was the |Royal Marines and pointed out that the only one with the life vest and helmet on was there officer.
  5. my youngest refers to all 4x4 that look like landrovers as such,to the point at a show saying loadly and in ear soot of the owner "there's a landrover like yours" I thought his head would explode as he tried to explain to a 7 year old it was a jeep. She did not believe him can't rember her exact words but latter as we walked a way said it looks like a land rover. If a 7 year old gets it why no o e else does!! LOL :cheesy:
  6. I wish that Britain would look after its heritage the saem way the US do, they seem to have examples of all there Navy and I know they have more space and little history to speak of so are trying to make up for that but still preserve what you can before you dont have it. Saddly we never seem to learn from history though and continue to make the same mistakes.
  7. Yep thats the one the film os it coming ashore is a bit more impressive.
  8. I find the easiest way to get on my Cent is to use the ladder on the back then use the second ladder to the hatch, climb down the 2 ladders inside. no problem just the long way round.
  9. When I first met my wife she only knew a little about my interests and I had learnt from previous experiences that I would need to slowly interduce her to all of what I did. Started slowly with the more comon then moved onto the less . Before she knew it it was to late as she was now fully imersed in my world and enjoyed the days and wekends away. This started with just haveing an excuse to go away for the weekend and see different shops. My interests go from aircraft, shooting,AFV's and steam engines. Over the years she has shown more and more interest, but at times have realised that she was now starting to think the way I do, scary thought though it is. She has made 2 very obvious coments to show this. The first when we where out driving I i noted a Rolls Royce for sale, I comented that we had passed a "roller" for sale. This caused her to coment, was it a Fowler, Burrel or Garrett. These being all makes of Steam rollers. She was more than a little shocked when I comented that it was only a car. She said at the time that she was official to far gone! Another time was when choosing a Tracked AFV, I had looked at Sabre's, scorpion 432,433 and evan the AMX13. This time she passed the coment that still to this days makes me smile. "Get the Sabre its the most practical" MY question to you is at what point did your other half know that they where lost and what did they say or do which let you know or make them realise them had become as Normal as the rest of us!!!!:cool2:
  10. I know there are a number of smaller landing craft of different types presrved but was unable to find if there are any LST's in preservationm. I seem to recall there was was in the 90's that was in danger of being broken up but cant find out what happned. Did it make it into either a dry dock museum or a floating museum?
  11. With that aircraft history I would have thought it was a bad idea to try and fly over , last time it took decades before it was able to fly again let alone be found.
  12. Do like the look of the stug 3, looks like it was thought through, unlike a lot of teh german assualt guns before it and even some after.
  13. Pity the the lst was not HMS Striker. I found a clip on sky which shows the amphibius landings in the falklands where you see the BARV come ashore with the Marines on it. The program was call the SAS in action no 4 but dont know how to download to the computer. Love the Sherman BARV footage. not seen so much on them before.
  14. Knew it was a bit complex but that has to be the understatment of the decade. They sound to be a lot more fun than most of the AFV's In all truth ther realy is little you can do with a tank . Was surprised to see how low in the water they are. you could almost call them a submarine! does anyone have a swimmer? Or even a live anchor laucher that looks just to much fun!!
  15. Been looking around the different types of AFV's I have never seen one running in the steel other than on scrap heap challange where they swam one. Have heard that they are a handful and hard to maintain and considering how hard a normal if you can call a AFV normal is to maintain must be hard. was wondering those on here that have them what are they like. how well do they swim. Dont what one just wonder what they are like?
  16. I was told when I got in touch with Bovington trying to trace mine that they carried little info on the ZR series of tanks. Still trying to get more info on mine. If you have any luck. Please let me know where you got this from will give them a try myself. Good Luck.
  17. Cant think of a better place for it. I would say that the Poles have a better understanding about how they feel about the Germans and there influance on there country I find it fitting that its helping to hold up a bridge rather than destroying !
  18. Found what it is called. The film was an elephant called slowly. Just need to find a copy now LOL
  19. Is that the one where he is cahsing a serries 1 that he has to put a block behind the wheel as a brake or is that another film. There was a film with Bill Travers and Verginia McKena that had a series 1 in , not born free but in africa, more of a comady, anyone remeber that one? :cool2:
  20. I know there is little continuity in films and whilst watching tank girl noticed a number of different tanks as well as AFV's the tank she ends up nicking goes through at least 2 changes. can anyone tell me what these are. In one view it looks like a sherman but could be werong in another it looks more russian. there also looks to be a few T54 or T55 cant tell teh difference. What else is there? Also anyone tell me why I seem to put "the" up in this format "teh" and does anyone else do this? Sorry for any spelling mistakes!!
  21. Did any survive in better condition and if so where are they?
  22. Not bad but where are teh Centurion, Chieftain and challnager?
  23. Compleatly agree . I would love to see the mk1 cent they have trundling around. That has to be a more import tank than the tiger. What about the KV1 does that run?
  24. does anyone know what the anual cost for a bird like the Lanc is? I know that fuel is a big chunk and also the insurance then add on maintance ? Are there any canberas flying yet? Not sure how these would cost against the vulcan . Would like to see the Shackleton fly that air atlantique have but don't think it will in the UK .
  25. Kent to add that the concord would have been a more historic aircraft to keep flying.no one else has ever done anything like it.
