  1. Seen this add for a scorpion on ebay. Could be a bargin? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Alvis-CVR-T-Scorpion-Tank_W0QQitemZ120418516303QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_3?hash=item120418516303&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A7%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50
  2. Where is the D from looks like it was lifted from the sea bed.
  3. I had planned to share with anyone else who needed to view the digital manuals, in the hope that if enough of use had bought small amounts then collectivly we would hold a large librey which could be used for teh benifit of all and so help keep some of teh costs down. I know it is always nice to have hard copies but Have found printing off only the pages I need to be useful .
  4. Who does manuals on digital format. Was wanting to get all my manuals on disc rather than paper copies. Can anyone point me in the right dirrection.
  5. There is a simialr story about a british crew in shorts Sterling who found after a sorte with the aircraft on its own with 2 engines out finding a aircraft just off the wing , same air craft then dropped below them out of site with the crew thinking the next action was for it to attack to find that it was simply looking the aircraft over. following this same aircraft a ME 110 then return to fly off teh wing at a safe distance, until land fall back in England when he came closer waved at the crew and flew off. This was recounted by a Sterling Flight Engineer. Can anyone comfirm this ? I have heard of similar story from both sides where pilots did not take the final shot. The was one from a Spitfire pilot who attcked a german fighter but the aircraft did not go down. at teh point he could give the kill shot he chose not to, simply waving him off. The result was remorse for this pilot as the german pilot was known to go on and kill 3 British pilots. War is HELL!
  6. I have been involved with steam vehicles as well and have found teh same to be true of them. in the UK one in derelioct condition would fetch 2 or 3 times the price abroad. With the states they have a lot of stuff in open spaces and little inclination to resroe them or teh facilities to do so unlike the UK where you can find most services within a few miles of your home and no where near teh distances found in the US and canada not to mention Oz.
  7. I'll let you know how it goes. I dare say there will be a lot of swearing involved.
  8. They are standard size plugs and the connection are the same.
  9. The photos are of a great help, good to know what your looking for. I have a plug socket that fits the 24 v plugs but the dont know if the one on ebay is deep and wide enough. The spanners will be the hard to find or make. Should be able to give it a go though. Will let you know how it goes. Do i need to remove anything on the engine to take the plugs out? I cant see a way through the carbs, or is it clear with the right tool.
  10. Any idea where I can get6 these tools from?
  11. This is for anyone who has a either a centurion tank or a RR meteor eninge . I have to change the plugs on my ent but dont know how to do the plugs on the inside. the outer banks have been no trouble , but not sure how I can change the inner banks . Has anyone done this or have access tote h manual to give instructions. I have both the drivers manual for the BARV and the parts book. none of these has any information on the engine and drive change. Any help please.
  12. I have been lucky enough to have been given a copy of teh CVRT user handbook but I dont have the last chapter which is "Chapter 26 stowage tools and spares" Does anyone have a pdf copy of this chapter that I could have? Also if anyone else needs a copy of the handbook let me know and I will pass on the file for no charge, only to ask that you do the same for others. I also have the user hand book for the BARV but this is not on file at present but if needed wil try and scan it .
  13. Have you ever know our govenment to ask us about anything they want to impliment. If you look at either France or Spain neither of them take on any of teh EU regs unless it is of advantage to them unlike us who take every thing without any comment or complaint. If they do try this. we should all take our vehicles tot eh centre of London and park outside the houses of Paliment. I would love to have the kind of national identity the French have, they dont take any guff off there govenment or any other for that matter.
  14. As well as the military vehicles I also have a steam roller and the rules for them are the same as those for the heavey vehicles driven on a car licences. You can tow only one trailer behind a steam roller plus a water bowser but as the law stands is you where to leave a single spanner on the bowser when towed it would break the law the bowser is as far as the law is concerned not there as it is only for carring water. The tailer for a roller can carry a living van which can carry toolsbut it can not carry any goods. The same I believe is true for the HGVs you can carry what is used for the vehicle so long as you are not carring a load.I would get in touch with the DVLA tio check for sure as they are changing the rules .
  15. Money I would guess. There is a limited market for this type of subject and if you look at the more main stream programes they are also dropped with little notice. I would like to see a complete overhaul from begining to a running tank. but they seem to think this less important.
  16. You can drive any vehicle on the road with tracks so long as they are not edged and are smooth. there is also a point on the PSI that the vehicle exerts onto the road surface. I know my BARV can be driven on the road with the steel tracks as it falls just inside the limits. That said I would rather have the hushpuppy tracks for it makes for a quieter drive and aslo less chance of problems. I dont think either ARV or Gun tanks can as I think they are just to heavy, biut could bewrong. I did have a copy of the regs to check, but cant find them now. though as I found mine was okay did not look any further.
  17. Where abouts are you. I have my sabre stored under the rail arches near Sheffield city centre. it is also a secure storage site and there are spaces left if needed. It is however not that cheep/ I pay £80 a month.
  18. I haver tyhe user handbook for the BARV and also the parts book for teh BARV but these coving only parts directly relating to the BARV. it will give information such as , ajuct track tension or fan belt or tappet cleance but does not tell you haw to achieve this. There is noting of any use as far as the engine goes. Which one of all the above publications would cover basic maintainance. I need what would equate to a Haynes manuals for the transmission and engine. If the techiniqual handbook just describes how it works which do I lookout for. Mine was built as a mk 3 , which I find a little confusing as it was part of the first batch. Did the Mks 1 and 2 not make the production runs or are these alterations made durring production. On my manuals it desribes the BARV's as mk 5 spec with teh parts book to be read in conjunction with the Mk 5 gun tank parts book. the user hand book states it as either a mk 3or 5. I just seem to be getting more confused the more I read. WHEN WILL HAYNES GET ROUND TO DOING A MANUAL FOR MINE, ITS NOT AS THOUGH ITS NOT A COMMON VEHICLE. lmao!!!!
  19. I would have to say the Centurion, you just cant get any better, took us a while to get there but has to be the best tank ever. no other has been so much of an icon. The sound alone has to make it the best.
  20. Have had a thought. Which is the longest serving military vehicle in the British forces, or for that matter any other country. I know my Cent was on active service from the first contract of cents in 1944 but this contract was filled between 1944 to 46 so I dont have a exact in service date but know it will be no later than 1947 and was cast from service in 2006 last seeing activbe service in 2003. I know that the BBMF aircraft are still in service and are classed as active but none of these aircraft have been in constant use or evan owned by the RAF since the war. Does anyone know any long serving vehicles or equipment?
  21. I have a vickers centurion BARV and also a Alvis Sabre. I dont know of any manuals available on cd. I would rather have a cd copy so I only need to print off the page I need and also saves space. Do you know where to get any from?
  22. Trying to work out which are the best manuals to buy. I have seen 3 types of manuals. I know that the parts books is very usful , but unsure which other to get. I need to know which one would be the same as a workshop manual either the technical hand book or the user hand book. They both seem to carry bits on general maintainace but I need to know which I do need over which one may be of extra use. The cost is the big thing as the manuals I want if I buy all three would set me back around £200.00.
  23. It is a little clearer but still feels confusing. Yet another way to confuse the troops!
  24. Have noticed a few senior British RAF and army officers have E R on there rank slides but note this is not on all of the same rank. Can anyone tell me the meaning of the ER on the rank slide?
