  1. Thats just even more tragic , what a site they would have made. The Lanc, Spit, Hurricane ,Dakota and a Mosquito. For me the latter three are the most important aircraft of WW2. I repeat for "ME" this does not mean that we could not have done without the others.
  2. I might have to give terry brooks a ring, he i sfair priced but a bit far for me to travel from Sheffield.
  3. I have always found the best way to deflate these people is to ask where there vehicles ares and why they are not there. The other anserr is to point out that these are no longer in service and are not inservice vehicles!
  4. I know I felt gutted that he would not test me, have sepnt hours practicing my reversing around corners as well as pulling away from the curbes. Learnt along time ago you cant change some peoples minds, I just need to find an open minded examiner. It is a pitty that you cant fight these people.I want to get a fair test and feel if I make an issue over this they will test me to the letter, easier to just try and find another test centre who are more open minded. When this chap came I was working in the garage and he showed no interest in what else was in there unlike most people would have.
  5. His reason would come under " has such a poor view that you need another person to help when carrying out manoeuvres or at junctions " as he reconded that I could not see safly behind me, I would guess that if forced to test me he would fail me anyway so may not be a problem on that end. The chap who would have been my first examinaer I guess would not have been a problem as he seemed to be very pro. You know how you get a feeling about someone before even meeting them well this was one of those guys. I would guess I just have to play his game. From the point he got out of his car I could see on his face he was negative. Even though he came to my house over a week before the test, He was not interested in shacking my hand, bad start for sure. I would guess he is one of those who dont understand our hobby and love of things out of teh ordenary.
  6. Did you notice the control colum was missing along with the radar. |Don't think I could get away with that on the drive!
  7. Had my H test booked for next week untill I got a phone call from the examiner who wanted to have a look at the vehicle. When I explained it was a CVRT i could hear his tone change, when he did turn up today to have a look at the Sabre, got the answer, NO you cant take your test in that it just is not safe. He was supprised I even drove it on the road. He told me I would have to cancell my test and either find another test centre or get a refund. I had a previouse test booked but had to cancell due to a doctors appointment, when I had spoken with that examiner he had no problems and seemed to be looking forward to the test as he was planning to ride in the turret. Shish I could have made the first test date. Wondered if anyone else has had the same problems and how they got around them. Or if anyone can help me out. Just want to take my kids to school in the Sabre is that such a problem??????????
  8. Have seen at different events and museums a selection of aircraft cockpits from ww2 upto more modern aircraft where do al these come from and how do they get sold. Would love to have either a Hunter ,Meteor or Dakota cockpit. What would be your choice of cockpits?
  9. are there any of these gliders flying? Was able to go in the Horsa that was stored at RAF Henlow some years back , this was one of those used in D Day but dont know if this is accurate informoation or not, does anyone have any further details on this one?
  10. After watching the programe with Chris Barrie about classic British machines, when they showed the Spits being restored, got me thinking about what aircraft are being restored to flight condition and what air craft are not and what are the reasons for this. For my money I would love to see a Victor fling and there are at least 2 which are close to airworthyness. Would also love to see a Masquito flying in the uk and a comet. So what is going on in the hangers?
  11. What other projects do you have planned> why not build a Centurion BARV. You can use mine a start point.
  12. Could not agree more. The sellerbrasions where for those who fought , not the so cauld VIP's .
  13. Having been ther with the Air Cadets felt the support by the govenment for teh Veets was a discrace. Was funny to see Brown get booed at the event aand evan saw vets blowing Raspreies at him at the time. The press seem to have done what they always do and take what went off out of context. Glad the Americans didnt come to Arromanches. If it was not for teh British and commonwelth troops they would have had got no where. I over heard one of teh vets mention when looking at a group of American reinactors that as usual the Yanks where late by 65 years!!!!! This was said with a smile.Meeting these guys was a great honor.
  14. Leaving today with 500 Cadets for teh parade, should be interesting? Looking forward to the event and hope to meet some of the vets . Plan to try and get as many autographs of those who where there on a single poster. Will always remember the living and the died!!!!!!
  15. It should be remembered that the aircraft of teh BBMF also arrange fly past at times whne the aircraft are in the area when possible. The flight is at the very least a monument to those who fought and diedthen and now!
  16. Always thought of teh Ex military landrover club as one for hard core enthusiasts who have very single peice of kit for the landy with little or nothing out of place or wrong. I have my FFR for fun as well as to show and need to have the seats in the back for teh kids so got rid of teh radio table. Got the wing boxes and the side arial which goes throught the tilt but this does not attatch to anything which is why I dont think it is good enough for what I think there standards are. Long winded I know but got there in the end. With all teh different makes I have I will be better off with the MVT , but you cant get away from single make clubs that support the enthusiastand are not run as a bussiness, Used to be in the leightweight club and they like the 101 club have small stocks of hard to find parts such as footwells and vent panels.

    The Mist

Just watch the film The Mist on sky and at the end you see at least 2 Abbotts coming out of the mist. I watch the end credits thinking this was filmed in GB but it states was filmed on location in the US. on the long shot not able to tell what else was used or if teh tanks where CGI or real. can anyone shed any light on this?
  18. The forum is a big help with sharing of information. I think with most true clubs a voted leadership has to be a must so as not to have it dominated by a small group who only look out for there own interests. I have nerver understood teh pricing of some clubs. with some you pay very little but get a good mag and good support as well as social events where as other clubs who by the price you would expect quite a lot but get noting at all , I would guess some of you will know of at least one club like that. I was going to join the ex military landrover club but did not think my lieghtweight hardcore enough for them, as it is not complete with the radio kit just on the outside it is right.
  19. I got a good deal with Barry Granger, evan cheeper than the last 2 years with other insurance. And thats with it being on the drive.
  20. I am a member of the National traction engine trust and there quaterly mag is very [rofesional and the membership is £20.00 a year which is the same as a single make club I know of and they dont give you anything newsletter. I was thinking of going with the MVT , I have a Landrover, Centurion BARV and a Alvis Sabre. Would this be the best club for support?
  21. Do you get any access to any publications archive with eitehr of these clubs.
  22. Which club has the most benifits for its members? Disc ount , good magazines, events, support, access to librey of publications ?
  23. That seems to be much better value for money than the Vulcan to the sky trust. Still want to see both fly though. always thought it was a pity that we dont have any mosquitos flying .
  24. It might sound odd but once you get used to the setup it feels very natural and balanced. I have riden indians with the throttle on the right and the gear change on the left. this was very unbalanced and harder to ride. I have had both Brit and Japs bikes in the past but still find the Indian the nicest to ride, only down side is the stopping, evan the riders hand book has the brakes down as to be used to "retard forward motion" strange that it does not say anything about stopping. On an Indian all braking is emergency braking!!!
  25. Some year back whist over in Germany and friend of mine was staying with his girlfriend off camp and answered a knock at the door to confronted with a German Luftwaffa officer, this chap spoke in German of course asking for donations, My mates German was not to good but asked what the donation was for, the officer on realising he was British said it was not a problem and went to leave. My mate pressed him to find that he was collecting for the German Luftwaffa vets. My mate said this was not a problem and put his hand in his pocket. this seemed to supprose said German my Friend explained that he felt that the men who fight the wars are the same teh world over and respected there courage. Pity we cant all look at it that way.
