  1. The 27 lt RR meteor that is fitted to the Centurion tanks the sound is awsome. Not a big engine but the Land Rover V8 is just as impressive.
  2. Cheers with give them a go. Are you interested in coming to sheffield steam rally last weekend in june ? Should be a good do and would be nice to get more MV there.
  3. I was wanting to get the full in service history for my tanks and have only been able to get small bits of information from Bovington. is there any other sources of gen for them? Can anyone give me names address, phone numbers or web addresses.
  4. From memory we used tol put the roudal both front and rear when we repainted vehicles and ground equpment. This was som long as we had enough to go round if not at least one was put on the back of the Land Rovers rather than teh front.
  5. Hi all the Sheffield steam rally n on the weekend of 27/28 of june this year and they are looking for any exhibits for teh rally and military vehicles and displays. If your interested contact Beverly Beat on 01709545047.
  6. The spares are not a problem its just being a member of a club thought also sells the parts, you would expect to get some discount. I also thought they would have had access to the manuals for the cvrt which looking at the web sites gives you the impression you will get access to when you join, But when I asked was told could buy them!
  7. I like many other ex servicemen generaly don't go into detail as to what lives they have had to take in the course of fulfilling there duty. It does not matter who fired the shot but to remember that all who where there fought . Without the imput of others who have not been called hero but have affected the course of events is just as important. War for the men who fight them, work as a team and all should be remembered. How many men went to there deaths in actions which where as a diversion only ,but fought just as hard. This goes for men on both sides. As a Jew I have no love for the NAZI's but do accept that most german troops acted as our troops did and fought more for the men they where with rather than the phylosophy behind the reaon the fighting atarted. End rant.
  8. Thought that would be the answer, are tehre many people who stay with the AFS for more than the first year?
  9. Dont think there would be any long distance work in the BARV and the Noise generated by teh Meteor engine makes normal communication difficult without head sets. Have got one of teh Clansman intercome systems to fit back in her and also looking to get teh radio soon. trying to get her back to in service condition. If anyone has any sugestions let me know.
  10. Bought a Alvis Sabre a few months back and thought I should join one of the clubs going. Had a look through the different ones on offer and thought the AFS would be a good one to go for, thinking that being a member would carry some benifits, as they advertise on the site that there is help and manuals available to members only. Since I have joined Have found no manuals of any note and also no advantages to membership, no discount on the club shop or any that I can find. Am I missing somthing here or have I just wasted £20 , and been better off joining the MVT?
  11. I know that the centurion BARV would have had a Larkspur radio at first but this would have been changed to a clansman 353 I think . I was set up with only 1 antena rather than 2 does this mean it would only have had one radio rather than teh 2 you would find in the sabre and fox. i would gues the only people to speak with would be the beach party or the ship. Can anyone shed any more light on this?
  12. Yep the BARV is my pride and joy ? I also have a sabre which is much easier to move around. I was hoping to get the BARV out this year if possible but as only war and peace are in a poissition to accomadate such a large vehicle without worrying about the tracks it does leave me a little limited. not to mention at 4 gallons a miles it's a tad expensive to run. I was planing to go to Sheffield Steam rally back end of june at north anston with the sabre. They have a large field and also have an area set aside for running vehicles around .:yay:
  13. There has been a military eveant at Renishaw hall in Derbyshire near Chesterfield for the last 2 years, but dont seem to be able o find out if there is any event planned for this year. Does anyone know if they are planning one and is so who do I contact and laos if not or if it is being held at another venue? Any ideas chaps, also does anyone know of any other military events around teh Sheffield area?
  14. I have a 1944 Centurion BARV, a 71 Sabre, 72 Landrover Airportable FFR and 1941 Indian 741, and the none military stuff, a 1910 Garrett steam roller, 1940 Indian 640, 1948 Indian Chief, Brockhouse Corgies one in NATO Green and series 2 Landrover 109. MOD Edit.. Thread Merged
  15. Had a thought about pooling information and manuals, I have been trying to get the manuals for the alvis sabre, but it occured to me that we dont ned to by a full set of manuals each but if we all agreed to sahre what we have we could build up a librey of manuals and then you get the use of all with only a small out lay. I joind the Alvis fighting vehicle society thinking they had the manuals I needed only to find they have very little and for the money I parted with got very little other than a few advertising pamphlets. How do others feel about this, you could scan each manuals and then share and share alike , or are there any problems I have missed.
  16. http://www.indianmotocycle.co.uk/bikes/Larry%20Turner.jpg http://www.indianmotocycle.co.uk/bikes/Phil%20Turner.jpg This is a photo of the families indians.
  17. Ive got a 1940 640 and a 1948 348. I would guess it willtake around 4 hours give or take. I went to the same rally last time it was held in 1995, was a nice run, but cant rember how long it took. I will be traveling up with 2 other Indians at the moment.:-D
  18. Is anyone taking there indian to the old Indian's never die Rally in Scotland this 24-26/07/09. I'm riding mine up there from Sheffield, anyone else interested in riding up as a group, woul,d be a site to see!
  19. Whers the rest of the dispatch tow part of it can be sen behind the back of the last photo.
  20. Your more than welcome to come and work on my Centurion BARV. And if you have any photo's 02 ZR 77 at any time in its life from 1944 until it turned into a BARV in the 60's up to its release in 2005 then send them on.
  21. The US army did have indian 741's as reserve bikes and as far as I can find out they where not used on active service with teh US army but where used in some areas for training. There where 4 different indian models used, durring the war, the 741, 640, 641 and 340. Having owned all the v twin indians and also have had Harleys but find the indian a much more balanced and better built bike. If you ride the HArly 45 and an indian 741 there is little diffenence bretween them and this is conc=sidering that the indian is 250 cc smaller. The best Indian used durring the war was the 640 which was a down tuned sport scout and capable of around 100 mph.Having a bike which leaves the right hand free to shoot on the move has got to have an advantage on those which dont.
  22. That would be a great help. It is always nice to see what others have and have also photographed when out and about, Trying to rumble through the photo sites for photos or events is hard work. I would love to see a page with all the members vehcile on. I would guess there is quite a wide selection!
  23. I would guess that mine is a 4B engine as it was refitted in the 60's when it became a BARV. There is an intermitant flame comming from what looks to be the base of the cylinder head on the right hand bank. , it does not seem to be a loos plugs which had been my first thought. But without the parts book it is difficult to work out what goes where.
  24. I need the parts bnook and maintainance manuals for teh Centurion MK3 for the RR Meteor engine. Does anyone have one or know where I can get one. I have a Pratt and Whitny twin wasp parts book and also a RR Griffon engine manual that I can trade for these. Or I can take whoever lets me have teh manuals for a run in the BARV. I need to get these ASAP as this is one of the big jobs I need to do on the engine so I can take it to War and Peace next year. Also need a head gasket for a RR Meteor? :readbook:
