  1. Just come back from Waddigton air show. was a great day but sadly no Vulcan . When we arrived it was parked at the end of the runway and expected to see it fly .Sadly it came over the PA that it was not flying teh reason given soundly a bit fishy. with this said I expected it to at least do some traxi runs but we didnt even get this. I went to Waddington to see the vulcan so feel let down. Even dug into my pockets when the last cry went out to help keep it flying. Begining to wonder whats going on? Anyone know the real reason why it was grounded. The reason on there web site does not make much sense. |Find it hard to believ that they only knew the aircraft was not able to fly until this morning?
  2. Going to the old Idinan's never die rally later this month 24/26 , how many others are going to this rally and of those who is riding up. Will be riding my 2 from Sheffield to Scotland. That is I will be riding one bike and my mate the other! Cant ride to at the same time dont you know. LOL.

    Originality

I have seen military landrovers with civi style rear cross members and this was an inservice repair or even a change of chassis. Not to be forgotten is that to fill military orders landrover would also take standard vehicles of the production line to make up short notice orders. |For me the paint is always a point on landrovers and for that a lot of british kit. When in servcice they would not be rubbed down to bare metal and respayed but painted over layers of paint. My leightweight has about 1/8 inch of paint on it. I repaint it every year to keep the colour right and have tried not to go over board with condition. Have a yellow bridge plate on her but when I got her direct from the RAF this was painted green. dont have the raidios in but do have emty wing boxes and aerials on, fittted an over drive but otherwise standard.
  5. Looked on the air show web site and it has a lightning down as a static display by 5 sqn. does anyone know any more on this and any photos? Had heard a rumour that this was to be returned to flight but feels this is about as likley as seeing the RAF having a classic cold war jets flight. Not to mention that the work involved getting one back in the air is so extreame.
  6. Did that my old Ferret to work in rush hour traffic once when the wife took the car. Was reat fun, only one person tried to cut me up then took a double take as though they had not seen the ferret. After which he thought better of pushing in. Have never understood why people will act so differnetly when they get behind the wheel of a car.
  7. The hardest part of owning any historic and rare vehicle is shortage of spares. I have only been able to find a few places which advertise parts on mil web. there is the avlis society shop , I did find the ex mod to be quite good but they seem to be in the middle of a move at present so have to wait on parts request. I had seem a another shop on line a bit back but did not save teh page and since then cant find it. does anyone have a list of shops which stck parts for both cvrt , landrover and centurion tank?
  8. Took the Sbre to Sheffield Steam Rally at the weekend was great fun and the run there and back went without to many problems. Engien cutout at a set of traffic lights and took a few minutes to get her going again, this said , no one sounded there horn nor did anyone try and cut past me. This has to be the best way of missing road rage!
  9. Was told some weeks back that as a member of the certain military vehicle society that they where going to give members a 5% discount at there online shop which would allow me to get slightly cheaper parts for my Sabre CVRT . Dont wish to make any negative coments but cant seem to find out if this discount has or has not been added to the online shop. Does anyone know for sure one way or another. Or of any other shops which give discount to club or society members?
  10. I would go down the mini digger route but , i was told by the examinaer that it had to be on public roads and mini diggers are not road legal unless there is a way round this which someone can let me know.
  11. If your around Sheffield you can come and help me with running mine.
  12. I,m getting confused, how many replicas of this thing are there? how many in GB and is the one being built based on a wheeled or tracked vehicle. Is the one the article is about the one Bob Grundy was building or is it another?
  13. I know it is a complex engine to work on is there not an alternative that can be used?
  14. Didn't Bob Grundy make a replica of this, remember seeing it at his workshops when my BAV was over there, his was bassed on a tracked tractor, but could'nt say which one it was as a base vehicle. IS this a different one and what happed to the one he built?
  15. So are there any Tempist in flying condition? If the engine is being restored would give the impression it is to fly ?
  16. There is nothing wrong with series 2 and 3 ambulances they are great fun and dont take up to much room. The nest part with a series Landrover is you dont have any problems with spares and you can pick up a solid ones for around a grand, seen a good one go from Jacksons for £500.00. And the best of all you can even green lane in a 109 without worring about space.
  17. If its a replica of a a7v, what does a original a7v look like. Have no idea what it is of where its from or who made them? Could you put up an image or send me one .
  18. What eara are you looking at? A good one to go for is a saracen comand vehicle. high roof, room enough to sleep. Cheap to buy. You gould also go for a Landrover 109 series 2 or 3 ambulance. you could even go for the rather meaty Landrover 101, any of these will do, they do an ambulance but there do tend to be a little large and tall . the standard soft top version are very nice and have enough room to sleep, there is the hard body 101 for the radios turns into a nice compact camper. But what is it you are wanting to do with the vehicle? Good luck.
  19. Found this on youtube, Its a long clip with the victor only being in the last 15 seconds but very interesting to watch and you can feel your muscles tense up.
  20. I would love to see the Victor and Vulcan flying together but sadly dont think this will ever happen. Has any video of this come onto youtube yet? It's also true that given any chance the pc h&s lot will do there best to spoil any activity they either dont like or understand.
  21. did we have a lot of stuarts as a stop gap?
  22. We used to turn the belt upside down so you carried the bum roll on the top over teh kidney puches this helped keep the bum role from hitting the backs of your tegs when running, Also used to carry 2 water bottles and crossed the straps on the kidney puches to help keep them tight together.
  23. No the only reason I was given was down to reduced visibility to the rear. I spoke with the manager of the test centre and still got no where. I wll have to try another centre close to where I live. I will make a complaint about the test centre after I have passed my test with another centre, dont want to rock the boat to much , you know how they can c,lose ranks. Its just gets me how one persons pregadists are allowed to interfere. If I could find a private road near to sheffield or a freindly famer to let me take the test there as a start point. I know they are not kean on walking to far. I had thought about the minidigger angel but not sure about the road work as I was told it was to be on public roads.
  24. I do think with the second examinaer that not having him test me was a good thing . I had thought of hiring a mini digger for a test but could not find one that was road legal. The examinaer gave me the contact details for his manager but do think that if I push the matter with that office I will end up getting a full test with no room for any error and it being as hard as can be. The chap examinaer did tell me that he had planned a full test covering all that would be used in a standard car test. What I dont get is why someone personal views are allowed to come into play when testing somones ability to drive. The CVRT family are no bigger than a landrover 101 ambulance and have about the same visability. Should have played the race card. "It becouse I'm a tank driver" Think that would work?
