  1. I know not connected but had to put this up. When I was lookingh for photos of teh challanger 1 prototype found this ! Bet he was in trouble!!!!!! This one of the prototypes at Bovington.
  2. The one with the Challanger turret , does it have a Sp reg? or a standard reg. Was wondering if anyone took any photos durring there visit to Withams?
  3. Whilst looking at withams auction site. they is a ferret with a group of photos with 2 tanks seen in the background. Lookng at the shape of the turret thought they may be challanger 1's can anyone tell me what they are for sure and also what is to happen to them?
  4. A loy depends on the examiner. after I had my problems taking my test. I was told that If I could arrange private lnd I could take my test with teh sabre but then the examiner changed his mind without any reason. also had the previous examiner state he would take teh test from the turret. I think a lot depends on who you get and what mood they are in.
  5. Been involved with raising money for the Legion for the last few years and my Mother is one of the organiser for collection in her area. The information I was given was that the legion only sells poppies for 2 weeks in the year but there is no end to time you can wear one. The poppy is a simble of remmberance and as there is no time limit on remberance then that is the answer, well thats the one I got. I have my poppy pin on all year as does my lightweight. Rememeber the dead but dont forget the living!
  6. I see the the Vulcan to the sky trust have the begging bowel out again. this time they are after £ 800,000.00 by the end of March next year. They have a breakdown of cost on the site. Dont wish to seem thick but dont quite understand the breakdown. Love to see it fly but have only seen it fly once since the rebuild out of all the times it was down to fly.
  7. How much more armour is in bogs in the eastern block?
  8. It the personel service number of each Airmen. For example. mine was L8226738 and my mates was S8226741. wanted to know what the letter was ment for or if just random.
  9. There is what lks like a stuart without turret, can not rember what the transport version was called. Also the usual White half tracks as german vehicles. Though the camels looks genuine. Donald Pleasance as a arab?
  10. I know that prior to the war and upto the 50's that there was a meaning for the first few digits and of a RAF service number. What I want to know and have been unable to find out s is there any meaning to the letters used in the service numbers.
  11. As little as posible but you could be paying thousands for it. Seen them go from £800 for a seized complete engine and £7500 for a referb
  12. Just been watching the film The Black Tent. tehre are a number or tanks and afv's in it. the first you see is what looks like a Cromwell on fire with another partly altered to look like a german tank. Can anyone tell me if I am right and what other vehicles where used? Would hate to think they burt a perfectly good tank for the sake of a film but I would guess there where a lot going spare. the german tank type seen is running at speed and makes a turn dragging up a hidden cable.
  13. Thanks mate, just waht I needed to know will give them a go !
  14. Dont seem to be able to find any reference to being registed as a reenactor? or do you have to be a member of a registered group or club. What do you need to prove your a reenactor in order to get blank firers?
  15. Still dont seem to be able to get to grips with the VCR act. I understand about the fact you have to only use weapons in prearranged re enactments . Do you have to have a permit or have to be registed as a group? Do you need extra insurance for events. What will I need to provide as an individual to able to qualify as a re enactor or do youneed to join a club. I put on a static display with weapons and equipment to represent a forward reci unit. I seem to remember a online shop which registed each customer as a re enactor but cant remeber which one it was.
  16. Thanks for the youtube link. Forgot they used Champs instead of jeeps. Does anyone know where the B25 came from. did they use a real airframe or a mock up, ?
  17. Can't remember who was in it just that I enjoyed it. When I was a teenager always wanted to have my own bomber to has a den. Would have taken that B25 off there hands and found space for it!
  18. Been trying to find a copy of an old film. I think it was made in either the later 70's or early 80's. F|ilm by by the name of "Soul survivor" it was loosly based on the story of the B24 liberator "Lady be Good" which went down in the libian desert after a raid when the crew got lost. The story is about the crew who are all around the remains of there crashed B25 , they think they are still alive and awaiting rescue. Does anyone remember this film and alsl know where I might get a copy. Have tried amazon and play.com but get a more modern film. There has to be a lot of other aviation based films with the remains old war birds. There was one I have seen resently on Sky which shows the remains of a B25 but not sure if a film prop or the real thing.
  19. Chears for that link will pass it onto my Father. Would love to see the photos if any exist. My father said for him to see this , at the exact time he desided to look out the windown must have been very small, as he was just passing by and clanced out, I would guess this was teh same time as the chap on the mail run. I was told that the undercarriage lever had been sellected to "up" by accident and that the failure of the micro switch was the final safegaurd. When in service you can tretract teh undercarriage win on jacks. all you have to do is select the lever and make sure you turn it to overcome the ground lockout.
  20. My Dad got to fly in teh Beaufighter when in RAF Selta Said it was a great flight and at low level somthing else. !
  21. Did find this youtube vid of a conqueror ARV does not sound to healthy though! Didn't know any where running. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3zIoCr_ciQ&feature=related
  22. After visiting the Tank Museum at teh weekend and talking with one of the members ther got me thinking. There seems to be more interest and value put on German armour over Allied armour. Why is this? When I was looking at what is running there is a few British, US and Russion tanks about but the interets seem to be on the German. I would love to see some of the rare and unusual British tanks that where built. Would love to see a Black price or Conqueror running about. I am sure that I will be corrected, but did wonder what the gerneral thoughts on this where. Should we preserve our own heritage with some interest in captured spoils of war. The same can be said for aircraft. We have no examples of the Shorts Sterling left or any complete Halifax , the one at elvington does not count as its not a complete Halifax as it has Hasting wings and other parts. If you could have any tank that is not already restored and running . What would it be?
  23. Always thought the Arrow was one of those great aircraft that never was due to politics and pressure from the US teh same way the TSR2 suffered. I would love to have seen the arrow in service the same as seeing teh TSR2. I have seen a photo of a full size replica that it at one of the Canadian airc and space museums. loved the film about the Arrow with Dan Ackroyd. Love the ending where they steal the last one and fly off into the sunset, if only. Either of these airecraft would have been a good replacemert for our lightnings!
  24. I use international mat black on the chimney of my steam roller and this holds real well. And its cheap.
