Tony B
Can anyone identify these? From CIOS and Societe Jerriase. Give the website a browse. http://www.thisisjersey.co.uk/hmd/
Degsy
With the possible exception of the larger truck in the left hand small pic I am fairly sure they are all German but would not like to commit myself on exact models.
Tony B
That's the problem Degsey, there are a number of photos on the site, including Renaults and Citreons. there is even a Packard with white wall tyres, sold (!) to the German's for £12. Enigma
Left very small pic is probably a Kraus Maffei halftrack. The big one looks like a Matador.
Degsy
Definitely not a Matador.

Are you sure you are not working for the tourist board? Hey Rick, Moi! an agent of Jersy tourism! :nono: the second and third pictures are captioned, 'Back of 2 Balmoral Terrace Trinity Hill, Luftwaffe moving into No's 1,3 &4.' So think about it. You couldn't get more of an English sounding adress, and it is part of the UK, still exists. Yet if the person taking the photos had been seen, or the pictures discovered, they would have been charged wit treason and probably ended up in a Concentration Camp. Camera's were prohibted along with radios. A friend of mine has just uneatherd some photos from her family archive that nust have been taken in St Helier just after the Occupation started, I'm hoping to copy them. The caption is a '21cm gun landing at St Helier Harbour' (3/4 of a Custard Cream, I think :-D) As for the £12 Packard, that incidentally belonged to a local doctor, the German's stated they would respect private property. Shortly after the Occupation statrted, owners of cars'Over 12 HP' were instructed to present the vehicles for inspection on pain of requestion of vehicle and fines. When presented some were requisitioned officially with paperwork issued and instructions the the papers 'Should be presented in Berlin after the war for compensation'. (You couldn't make that up!) However several, mostly Jaguars and MG's, the island was quite afluent even then, were not 'Oficially' requisitioned. however at that point German officers approached the owners enquiring would they be willing to sell them? And of COURSE, don't let the men outside with rifles influence your descion, don't worry we know where you live to collect them. The end result was following the Liberation compensation was denied to the owners as the paperwork showed they had been 'Sold' of the owner's own free will. Degsy
Nice MG, is it an N type Magnette and a Standard, possibly 9hp, no doubt somebody will know for sure. Somebody borrowed my old car reference books, never seen them since.

Rick W
They are just begging for a then and now comparison. We need a holiday to Jersey, when are the liberation celebrations, are there any family friendly static caravan sites on Jersey worth a look? Runflat
Thanks for the link. Not much doubt that the MG is a VA saloon (a much under-rated car). See here: http://www.svwregister.co.uk/about_us.htm http://svwspares.co.uk/ Anyway, back to MVs. Here's another of the Peugeot: http://www.thisisjersey.co.uk/hmd/imageviewer.pl?0010114

Tony B
It was obviously a 'Desirable' vehicle, otherwise it would probably have ended up being shipped to France. AND looking up the link i see Tickfords appear as well! At 54 hp it must have been quite a beast at speed around the Island lanes. Degsy
Tickford were responsible for the bodies on a huge range of vehicles, I should have remembered it was a VA because when I had a TA nearly 50 years ago a friend was restoring a VA, lovely car. Tony B
Tickfords seem to be popping up quite a bit at the moment. What with the WS10 trailer as well. A friend of mine is going looking for the garage, we are both sure we know where it is. The Fort Regent silohette has changed due the Dome but thats now 'old' it was done in the late '60 early 70's. AlienFTM
The half-track is probably one of SdKfz 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11. I have never been desperate enough to work out the differences between them. SdKfz is an abbreviation for Sonderkraftfahrzeug or Special Motor Vehicle. All Wehrmacht armoured vehicles had an SdKfz number, just as all British armoured vehicles have an FV number. Snapper
It looks like a 7 - which was the eight ton model. the 9 was the eighteen ton Famo the 10 was the one ton Demag D7 the 8 - I think was a five ton and the 11 was a ten ton or viceversa. Tony B
I have been hunting high and low, there is a picture of two of the Mirus Battery 305mm barrells being moved in Gurnersy. The guns ex Russian Battleship guns, from the St Petersburg were huge, the picture shows two three quater tracked prime movers at the front and a third at the rear. Runflat
Tony, just found a picture in "The war in the Channel Islands - Then and now" (page 28). Only shows one of the 3/4-tracks though. The guns are said to be from the Imperator Aleksandr III.
