antarmike
Concorde lands at Heathrow Airport, London for the first time. This sparks a large protest against the associated noise. Noise is one of Concordes biggest problems, and it is noise, and the distance Concorde must fly before going Supersonic and long detours to put supersonic flight over the sea, that prevent its use to the destinations it was initially hoped it would serve. radiomike7
Concorde land at Heathrow Airport, London for the first time.quote] This may well have been the time that my father in law was invited along for a one hour flight. True to form, Concorde was delayed for 2 hours by technical problems during which time the VIPs were drip fed with champagne and his memory of the flight was a tad blurred.:shake: It would be more than 5 years before the first commercial flight from Heathrow to Bahrain in January 1976, an occasion that I witnessed by bunking off college for a couple of hours. Our grandstand was an empty 8 wheel Scammell tipper that the driver had parked up on the perimeter road and the shock waves from Concorde were enough to rattle the body on the chassis. Tony B
Used to have the windows rattled at Timberscombe on Exmoor about 21:10 every night when she went supersonic.
