Having Arrived at Wideawake the day before, Flt Lt Martin Withers and his fellow Vulcan crew took off for Black Buck 1. The longest bombing mission undertaken by the RAF at the time, with a flight time of 15 Hours 45 Minutes.

The Crew sussesfully dropped a line of conventional bombs across the runway on Stanley Airfield. Gaining one direct hit, enough to deny it's use to the Argentinians.

The Black buck missions lasted until June 11th with Black Buck 7.
