matchlesswdg3 Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 I just came across this old family photo which shows our home in about 1950, when my father was working as a civil engineer on various jobs across the UK. Hence we lived like gypsies for a few years. I recall Dad talking about this Jeep, supplied by his employer. It looks like a civilianised version - based on surplus WW2 vehicle?? Presumably there was brisk trade in these things with a shortage of cars post-war? (The quality is not good I'm afraid - from a very small photo) 6 Quote
Enigma Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 After the war lots of Jeeps were converted to civvie use by adding doors, fixed roofs and more. https://www.hemmings.com/stories/2022/02/14/jeep-coachbuilding-french-leftover-world-war-ii Quote

matchlesswdg3 Posted November 18, 2023 Author Posted November 18, 2023 Certainly ours looks like one of the Metamet "Saloon" Jeeps! Thanks for posting. Dad swapped the Jeep for an A35 Austin for a while until along came a green Series 1 Land Rover soft top! We used to play at "soldiers" in it - probably sowed the seeds for my MV addiction! Quote
