Surveyor Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 I have used viniger to remove rust and paint with good success. Small parts in a Chinese food tray. This adjustable spanner came as part of an original Land Rover tool wrap and was jammed. The Chinese container to small and the one with the tent pegs had been soaking for a while. Got an Irn Bru bottle and put the head in, never thought there would be capillary action. Apart from the fact it's still jammed the artistic will like what's happening Quote
earlymb Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 You could also try electrolysis, I've had very good results with that. Takes off both rust and any paint. Quote

Yes have read that and tried, must have done something wrong so carry on with vinegar, my daughter is an ethical jeweller so try and follow that way, the paint on the ones i have tried has come off. Enigma Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 In ye olden days we cleaned brass shells with a salt and vinegar mix. IIRC it seemed to work. Quote
john1950 Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 A wire brush and WD14 and a bit of elbow grease. I put them in a bucket of diesel with a cover on and forget them for a while. Quote
